    I had two 1971 Gremlins, one totaled
    front and one totaled rear. Clipped behind the front seats. Plum crazy factory color, air, auto, sunroof, rally wheels, carpet, stripes like yours, and 258 cubic inch 2 barrel with factory air.
    Loved it for thousands of miles.

      Oh yeah, the Gremlin X package. And everything is SAE, nothing metric.

    I had a 73 Grimlin , I liked it. Had the 258 cubic inch 6. And 3 speed manual transmission. Good power, and fuel mileage. I sold it because my wife had some friends that needed a car. I wish i still had it.

    I had a '72 Gremlin X with the 258 ci engine, Hurst competition shifter on the 3-speed manual transmission. I also installed a quadraphonic sound system with 4 infinity speakers with Plastic cones, an 80 watt amp along with a digital tachometer that logged the top speed of any driving. 40 channel, Single-Sideband CB radio with Voice-activated headset - I talk, it keys the mic for me.
    Got broadsided in an intersection by an Olds Toronado which truly outweighs my Gremlin - and totaled it.
    I had and Enjoyed that car for almost 5 years, and it never let me down. It never stranded me anyplace where, I either couldn't get help or couldn't help myself. It died on me in Texas one summer, and checking into it was nothing more than burnt points. Nail file and a matchbook cover got me back on the road: filed the points clean and gapped them with the matchbook cover, re-install the Distributor cap, and off we went.
    I had an Olds Calais that also was an excellent vehicle. GM family for decades.
    IT'S ALIVE!!! IT'S ALIVE!!! 🚗🚗🚗

Can't go wrong with those solid old inline sixes, so I'm sure you'll get her back on the road again. Greetings from new sub number 360, all the way from down here in the Netherlands! 😀

    Have you ever used white vinegar to help free up a engine?? Works really well instead of mystery oil. It removes all the crap in there stinks a little after soaking in for awhile but works good. My uncle used it to free up the engine in square body pickup that sat in his yard for 23 years

    • @robbieshobbies93

    When they're really really stuck like that, a little kerosene in each cylinder works great. When I was 17 my dad refused to let me buy a v8 Gremlin X, 4spd. It sounded great.

    They just recently demolished what remained of the AMC world headquarters in Detroit Michigan. Though it is leveled and empty ground they are going to build an industrial complex where the building wants stood.

  • @terminallygray
    @terminallygray ปีที่แล้ว +1

    before you get all giddy with joy... remember that trans fluid that sprayed on the floor of your garage by the front of the engine ?? Yea, that was actually motor oil. You're gonna want to fix that before running the engine for very long. You see if that's how much came out after just a couple of seconds running....... if you don't pull the motor for the V8/manual swap now: you have to replace that timing cover. remove the crank pulley, then remove the timing cover and get a new front main seal to replace the one that came with the replacement timing cover. you may also have to replace part of the oil pan gasket too, when you reassemble. Yea, all that because of a few metal bits that broke off the timing cover on to the floor. If you don't then, you'll be spraying oil every time you start up that engine, I guarantee it !! At least you got a warning. A lot of people will ignore the metal bits on the floor. Then when they start the engine, they wonder why it sprays so much oil around. I really hate to be the bearer of bad news but you seem to be an honest person. You could skip over all this and do the V8 swap now too.

    • @robbieshobbies93
      @robbieshobbies93  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that would make sense. There's a lot that can go wrong still. I appreciate all of the info. Depending on how it runs, I might want to do a motor swap anyways. If it's going to be a good runner, I'll be fixing the timing cover for sure.

    Only a few minutes in and in the future for old cast iron blocks that have sat a Looooong time fill the cylinders with vinegar, white vinegar to be exact and let it sit for at least 48 hours, then try to turn the engine over. This trick only works on cast iron blocks from about 84 and earlier. After 84 there are too many alloys and aluminum that the trick doesn't work. I learned it from rebuilding an old Ford 8N at my uncles farm that sat for 40 years.

    These cars can be really something if you build em correctly, A friend of mine in Celina Ohio had one what a machine with a Built 304 it was Green and on the sun visors he did some incredible Artwork and on the outside of some of the most meanest Gremlins you've ever seen.

      Yes the V8 was a 304 and it was called the gremlin x they didn't make a ton of those and if you can find one with a four speed they were actually not bad speed wise run in the 14s somewhere and could be fun to drive due to the stick

  • @jamesmcdonald5868
    @jamesmcdonald5868 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The other issue that I find with this situation is the fact that when you did get it to slightly break free by turning the flywheel and have your leverage bar on the harmonic balancer area of the vehicle, you didn't do a full rotation of 360゚. That is where your issue is lying with this motor. Until you get it to break free you're gonna have issues at trying to get it to start.

    You gotta get that spinning a lot more freely before the starter is gonna turn it over and even after that it's gotta spin pretty free that thing will run again they were bullet proof and I never saw one blow up due to being beat on they didn't have enough power to blow up the heads and intake wouldn't flow enough air to let it over rev

    A lot of times the top end is locked up,,, of so gota take the entire engine apart, and find what bearing, what valve is messed up,,, fix it before you start it, otherwise other things will break👍🤔 something is very very tight,,, that will put stress on other things until it's fixed, figure out what is holding it back,,,

    Ok so, any old locked up engine,, 1 remove plugs,, look at em, 2 some Wd or any break free, and then, litteraly out a funnel in the plug hole, fill all cylinders with marvel mystery oil,,, let it soak, any blown rings cylinder will not be full anymore, can always use a hand vacume tube to suck out later to prevent hydro lock,,,, but yeah, always start with removi g plugs, then lube from the top, take the oil plug out make sure you dont have milkshake, 😢😵😅😂 if so remove oil pan and lube from the bottom end, pb blaster👍 and slow back and forth,,, is it one piston or all, is it the valve train🤔🤔 hhhmm what is it has it locked up,,, investigate, is it worth it, as well as don't break things before you k.ow what needs fixed
