I’m Richard, I talk about stamps and postal history.
Penny Black on Stamp
It’s May. The world’s first postage stamp was issued in May 1840. In this episode, let’s talk about the Penny Back, not the stamp itself but the Penny Black on other stamps.

I like the 1946 catalog. That's the year I was born!
Nice Richard, you’re getting around.
It's cool. splendid! recently, mostly was seen on renovation.
Shame I've Only Just Seen Your Informative Video Richard On August 20th 2024 !!!. Got Up To Thirty Useless Stamps !!!
Thank you for taking the time in making this video. Ever since I heard about the Horizon scandal I’ve been curious as to how the U.K. postal system works. To be honest, their postal system has always confused me. 😅 In the United States the government controls the main postal service. There are private, postal companies such as FedEx which is typically used for sending/receiving packages, and because you’re paying a lot more for their services your package will usually arrive far more quickly. However, the majority of mail and packages are still sent using the government’s United States Postal Service which is primarily funded via taxes.
Do you attend GASS next week?
@@erikmulder2574 I wish I can🥲
@@RichardPhilatelist it’s fun out here 🤗
i think your postcard says - a first class result
Hmm so 1870 Isle of Man Postal service was faster than the modern day New Zealand service! lol
I just started postcrossing, which led me to discover your video ☺️ when you talked about the snail picture that made me laugh 🤣🤣
That is fake ball cause the red line is even darker dont buy
My bro, he went to adidas so please be quiet
And it’s the cheap one
I lived in Scotland for around 18 years and I did see one post box with ER 11 however it was one of those large plastic post boxes in a Tesco store in Peterhead. I think it was disrespectful of Tesco to have done that.
Just found your channel.. good content im happy I did
Thank you😄
nice
Thanks for sharing, Richard! You're well on your way to a stamp on stamps of the UK collection with all of these, and some others I've seen you post on Instagram! I really like that 'greetings' penny red you shared at the end, too. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Lisa😄
Thank you for sharing Richard, it was nice to see the commemorative issues commemorating the penny black. 👌👌
Thank you for watching!
Thank you for the very nice video, Richard. I didn't know there were so many commemorative stamps commemorating the penny black. That last stamp with the penny red is certainly beautiful, but all the stamps were very attractive. Best regards!
Thank you!😊 I'm glad you enjoyed.
Hi Richard, 👋👋👋👍👍💪😝
Hello~
This was so informative! Stamp on stamp collecting is something I had not thought about before. You always hear about the Penny Black but I didn’t know there were so many commemoratives. Thank you!
Thank you! I didn't realise there were quite a few until I did this research.
Good idea for a theme and well explored Richard!
Thank you for watching, glad you enjoyed.
Stamps on stamps looks like a very great topic to collect. It could be a great collection with only black penny on stamps, too. All the stamps are looking amazing!!!
Thank you for watching, and yes they look good!
Thank you for sharing. ❤
Thanks a lot, Sara
Well done 👏
Thank you

Thanks for sharing. What is the location of the Xtreme Philately conducted at 0:13?
Thank you for watching. That place is called Lyushunkou(旅顺口).
@@RichardPhilatelistThanks for sharing. I think I managed to find the exact location where this is taken from Googlemap. Did you take the shot at Huanghe Road?
@@joyseng No, I took it near Baiyushan Pagoda.
@@RichardPhilatelist Thanks for sharing. I just checked out on Baiyushan Pagoda :)
Most excellent video Richard! I'm from Canada (not Newfoundland but Quebec) and collect Canadian stamps. I have yet to dive into early Newfoundland stamps, so this is a great video to get me started.
Amazing collection richard 😊
Thank you
You received a lot of very nice cards. I have been Postcrossing on and off for about 14 years. Thanks for sharing.

Going home and cleaning my old cupboard is one one my favorite things as it brings many beautiful memories. As you said thay are not just stamps.
Thank you for watching, Sara
This is a lovely tribute to Mr. Huang Yongyu. It seems like he had a superb sense of humour. After watching your video I bought myself a little set of his last stamps (the chinese blue rabbit & the rabbits of the red stamp). Thank you for sharing your knowledge on this artist. It was very interesting.
Thanks for watching and for the kind words, I’m glad you got something new for your collection.
I enjoyed the video. Thank you for sharing. I thought I left a comment. My apologies if it was deleted.
Thank you for watching.☺️
After watching this...I would be WAYYY too embarrassed to show my childhood collection, mine is a total mess 😅. I loved this episode, Richard, thanks for sharing!
I would be curious to see the mess🤣 Glad you loved it, thank you, Graham.

Thanks so much for sharing your childhood stamp collections and the wonderful memories 🙏🏻 Would have liked a longer look at your aunt’s collection, though 😉 Eddy and I collect Chinese stamps and covers, focussing on those with ancient Chinese artefacts. Wishing you a happy Year of the Dragon 🐉🧧
Thank you for watching! And I need to explore what had my auntie collected too 😊.
Pretty good China collection...😊❤
Thank you 😊
Thank you for sharing your collection with us!
Thank you for watching.
Richard I looove this episode it was so fun to see your collection and hear about their history in relation to your life! Like where you got it or as gifts from friends or your mum. Your monkey stamps are so nice. What a beautiful collection! Does your family watch your channel? Thanks so much for sharing!
Glad you love it, Lisa! They don’t, may know that TH-cam is not accessible in China…
Beautiful story .... agreed, those were the days ... I miss receiving mails from relatives overseas too, but then again thanks to online mediums I still have been able to grow my collecting to a level otherwise not possible.
Thank you for watching and these words☺️
Fun to see interesting stamps from China and other East Asian countries!
Thank you 😊
I liked you collection of childhood jeje your chinese monkey stamp zodiac is original or fake?? Ufff nice collection yes, greetings to you from the Canary islands, las palmas city my friend
Thanks for watching. The 1980 monkey is counterfeit 😅, just to fill the ‘gap’.
Nice to watch your video. I remember acquiring my very first stamp at 8 years old. I found it on the sidewalk where it had fallen from a letter the mailman carried. It was a U.S. presidential series stamp. I have been collecting for 70 years!
@@dennisferguson9129 Wow, precious memory!
