Jay was not freestyling, he was saying 1-2 bars, remember them and do the same process and add it on to what was previously remembered. Totally different than just spitting off the top of the head right then and there having no written or remorised material ready.

i think 2016 killed lyricism. lil pump and the likes were chanting "fuck lyrical rap" at shows. that's when the appreciation for lyrics went away and rap became much more about making songs to turn up to. i also think it's real ignorant when people try to diss rappers who are lyrical claiming they don't make good music but it's not like the no lyrics guys are making great music either. chanting a single word over a beat someone else made for them is music composition? it's hilarious. lyrical rap is about the lyrics, the actual writing, the rhythm of the words, the flow. a well written song can be performed with no beat and still be good, which is more skillful than making a catchy song, something that has proven to be formulaic. the main issue is that someone spitting bars is not enjoyable for most people, that form of music doesn't appeal to them, which is why hip-hop had to take such a major shift to become more popular.

"Watch the party die", we need to claim the culture back ya'll. Hip hop has its roots in black art forms like Jazz and Reggae. Rhythm And Poetry ( rap music) is ancient and you can trace it back to the poems and story telling with the drum and other instruments back in the Mother Land. It's black in its essence because we always had a useful lesson to teach within all of that and it was beyond entertainment. We are a part of the problem today because we have allowed this art form to be colonized and we're making music to please the colonizer instead of uplifting our people. That opens the door to the culture vultures who just want to earn a buck because that's what we've allowed it to become.

Nah lyrism for the underground musicians the new age music trash i explained that to my fans. I don't even know who is on the radio anymore. You got to write your lyrics down freestyling is cool, but how you going preform on stage, and remember the lyrics.

I’ve been saying this for years.

When I produce an artist, if they can't one take their song I send them back home to do their homework and come back when they are prepared. I ain't got time and studio time money for an artist to be creating on the spot. If they can write fast ie under an hour, and can practice it to be able to one take or with two drops maximum in that time then I can work with that. Punch in artists usually take hours to do one song. Not around me they ain't.
