How to Smoke a Pork Butt on a Charcoal Grill | Weber Kettle
I appreciate your video. The smoker looks great! I’m using your video as my guide for the barrel I just found. Starting mine this weekend. Is there a blueprint for the measurements somewhere that you used?
@@jakewaseen thanks! No besides the intake holes being 3 1/2” up from the bottom and 20” apart from each other, I just eyeballed the rest of the pieces and tac welded them in place.
@@BBBarbecueandPits awesome! Thanks. Do you ever use a baffle plate? I like your lower grate instead. But it seems like a lot of barrels run a baffle
@@jakewaseen so I mainly use my lower grate to hold a water pan on one side. So then I have a direct and indirect zone.
Now thats what I'm talkin bout...they sellin The Big Green Eggs for thousands!!
@@turtledove1927 yeah I know it’s ridiculous.
Beware of using oil/petrol barrels

Kamado Joe owner here. I’ve been looking at getting a Weber Kettle for quicker cooks and once I started doing some research I was really impressed with the sheer versatility these little grills have. Good video. 👍🏻
@@gabrielglouw3589 thanks! Yeah you really can’t beat a Weber for the price. Good quality and you can do multiple things on it.

great !!!!!
What did you use for the clear coat? How has it held up?
@@StephenPulliam I used the Rustoleum High Temp Clear. It held up really well when I had it for about a year then I sold it. When I sold it, it was still in good shape. I put 3 heavy coats on to ensure it lasted.
how do you get the top off the barrel ?
@@sebken8528 I got one that the top was removable, it was just clamped on
foom if you need a probe to tell you its done you are a failure not to mention breaking the membrane between the meat and the skin with the probe dries it out
Ok
Solid work bro

I own a blue Gateway and love it! But after watching your video I want to build one!! Great video and the paint is bad to the bone!
Thanks buddy! Yeah I have a couple of gateways and this one performs the exact same.
@@BBBarbecueandPits awesome! Good luck to you
Very nice. I started this project on my horizon Oklahoma Joe smoker that is real close looking to yours. How’s that spray on Pam holding up on the outside as far as keeping the rust down? I’d planned on painting everything then use Pam where the paint burns off the fire box I’m sure will go fast
So I sold this one a while back but the Pam worked pretty good. I would tell you to go with your plan because even the Pam had spots that rust would come through. Every time I would cook, I would apply the Pam to the firebox and that worked great. Hope the project goes well for you!
What kind of spray paint did you use at 11:26?
@@BrianTheTrader Rustoleum high temp black spray paint
That came out beautiful, Great job.

@@Arlodad92 yeah it came out great. Ready to throw some ribs on it this weekend 👍🏻
EXACTLY what I've been searching for. Thank you for posting!!!!
@@johndough7942 not a problem buddy. Hope your restoration goes well!
Hi from France, I was wondering, is there any point in having a remote combustion chamber? Like on long classic smokers
If you set this one up correctly from the beginning with coals and wood chunks it works great.
Perfect, I'll make a note of it. I'll try to find some plans or opinions...otherwise I'm left with the good old classic version. By the way, I'm a big fan of the patina finish you did.
@@xavche38 thanks a lot! Yeah that was kind of an experiment just glad it worked out 😂
@@BBBarbecueandPits It's possible that there'll be an identical finish on this Atlantic rope (if I can manage it...). To be continued! And thanks again for the videos and advice!

If the cleaner can burn your hands, wouldn't it be poisonous? Wouldn't be the best thing to use would it?
@@beetomor you have to think everything gets burned off when you burn it back in. Just run it at 400-450 and nothing can survive in the grill.
This might be a stupid question, but how open were your vents, both bottom and top?
@@johnh1798 about 50% on both got it to stabilize. But you kind of have to mess with them to get whatever temp you are looking for, takes about 10 mins to stabilize at the temp, then go from there. Also depends what kind of charcoal you are using too.
