TC Electronic PlethoraX1 | Quick Tones, DEEP Dive
TC Electronic have released the 3rd pedal in the Plethora family: the X1 TonePrint Loader. Simpler than its bigger brothers, the X1 still has access to almost all the pedals in the TonePrint range -- watch the video to figure out what's left out, and the possible workarounds.
The X1 once again meets the Plethora goals of packing a lot into a small package.

If you were around in the 80's and 90's and had an interest in music gear, the pedal on my bench today doesn't need much of an introduction. If you weren't, or didn't, but you own a TC Electronic Flashback delay pedal of some description, you'll have come across the 2290 moniker, and come to know it as "the" sparkling clean digital delay sound on those pedals. "Two TS style pedals in a week? Are you out of your mind?", you might ask. Well, that might be, but there's a method to the madness. Digging a bit deeper, he had already spilled those particular beans at TheGearPage back in 2014, confir...
Sonicake BLUE SKREAMER | Quick Green Tones (no talk)
มุมมอง 1.6Kปีที่แล้ว
The Sonicake Blue Skreamer: it's tiny, it's simple, and it kind of does what it says on the second half of the tin. The "blue" part of the name can be misleading, but it's essentially referring to that well known (green...) pedal, so popular among Blues players. As for the screaming bit? On its own, it doesn't - just like the green one. But just like that green pedal, you can use it to make you...

Cool. I was looking into using sub n up but configure it in way that my Bass B and E strings and partially A string are not being affected by the octaver Thx
Hi. Thanks for the great video. To confirm I understand this correctly: So for example, I can operate the Ampero Mini unit in patch mode, and cycle through three custom patches/tones I created in a single bank, and then assign a control function to a button on the controller to turn on/off selected effects in each of my three patches on the unit, in essence giving me quick access to 6 different tones? Is that correct? Then I can use the second button on the controller for the tuner or looper. Thank you.
Thanks for the great video! Just a question: at 16:45 you mention a video link on the upper right corner to explain how to emulate the Infinite pedal with a Flashback II. I've been trying to search it on your channel, because it doesn'r show on this video (at least for me) but I can't find it! Can You please post a link? Thanks a lot in advance.
Try this: th-cam.com/video/-Zn_YxJgKEQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uA6irOw806yIACSb I'll see if I can fix the on video link, thanks for the heads up!
@@PedalPlatform Thanks a lot! Very appreciated! :)
I've gotta say, your tutorials are what every online gearhead should strive for. I've got a bad case of G.A.S., so I watch lot and lots of these tutorial/how to videos. Yours are quite simply among the best on the net. In the past 10 years, the advances in tech have provided guitar players with an embarrassment of riches. Unfortunately, though companies like Ampero make great affordable products, their owners manuals are terrible. You are helping a lot by being the missing link. Thanks so much, and, once again, Bravo!
Thank you for the kind words, they mean a lot! 🙏🏻
@@PedalPlatform Most welcome. You mention at the end of this video that you were going to do another about the 4-button Ampero controller. I don't see that anywhere on your site. Did you end of changing your mind on this?
I didn't change my mind, I just got lost in the process of making it the best I could, so perfect became the enemy of done. 😬 I still want to get it done, as well as the "new" update, but it might still be a while. 🥲
@@PedalPlatform I look forward to it (whenever you get a chance to do it and post 🙂)
Thanks for excellent tutorials
can a Brad Paisley sound be achieved with that?. Torn between this and hotone nano biritsh invasion micro head
I just bought one of these and the delay tap tempo value is ALWAYS incorrect. You displayed this yourself in your video and others have too but no one is commenting about it. At 14:43 you are displaying 105 bpm and then you say, "Now I am going to tap faster, and the display shows 387 bpm!" This happens to me as well. The interesting thing is that the tapped tempo actually is saved and the light blinks at the tempo that you tap, but the display value is wrong. Got any thoughts about this?
I'm not sure I understand... when I tap faster, the BPM (beats per minute) increases, as it's supposed to, and the delay time in milliseconds goes down. The Plethoras always display tap tempo in BPM, but display delay time in ms when adjusting with the pots. Could that be related to what you're seeing?
Where do you recommend placing the Enieqma in signal chain?
Sorry for my stupid question but how should i turn my plethora x5 off my dear Philip? Plugging out?
Not a stupid question at all, but yes, pull the plug 👍🏻
@PedalPlatform thanks, love you
Is this analog pedal or digital?
Now that the Plethora has MIDI Clock and some other MIDI enhancements in firmware 1.4.3 (10/19/23), any chance of an updated version of this helpful video for us Midi newbies? 😁
You are a champion!!!
That's it?
Hello! I have the x5. Is there a way to know if the input to the plethora or the signal in the pethora itself is peaking? thanks!
Play gardenia by the band kyuss
Sorry if you've already answered this somewhere, but I couldn't find it. Is there a way to rig a single footswitch on the X5 to toggle all the effects on the board either on or off?
Chorus is missing on my plethora any advice appreciated
Is there a sleep mode or is the screen supposed to stay on all the time?
Can you tell us how to achieve the same effect on the plethora x5 ? Thanks !
Nice Job! Intelligent review showing all the functionality of the pedal without excess gab or attitude. Cheers!
Perfect Vox pedal, thanks, bro - already arrived! Thank you for your professional review! Respect.
i can’t find the stupid file and it’s annoying me so much
Dude, your videos are fire. This one especially cool as it served as an intro for me to the tone print editor, but more importantly I now have a parametric EQ on the board. Thank you!
Has anyone used the Tech 21 MIDI mouse with the Plethora x3?
Perfect, Brother! Thanks again!
question: What does it sound like?
Sounds really sweet! Pedal is fine, but do we NEED so much possibilities is another question 😊😅
Absolutely! Thanks!
How about you actually play some chords to show what the settings are doing? This video is totally useless.
177 people (at the time of writing this comment) would like to disagree with you, but more to the point: - you seemed to have missed the bit where <checks notes> ah yes, *the whole video* is about showing what the settings are doing. Anyway, thank you for the kind words, and I look forward to watching your demo! 🙏🏻
@@PedalPlatformthis video showed everything idk what this kids on about😭
Hey very helpful video, thank you I have set up my midi commands to switch and automate everything via playback machine, with one exception - I couldnt find a way to make it load a specific board for each song... yeah it has "board up" and "down", but I can already see how it can backfire terribly, maybe there is a workaround? love my x5, but this little hiccup doesnt sit right with me...
th-cam.com/video/NrsOYkBgfXg/w-d-xo.html ;)
@@PedalPlatform yeah, thanks! I just thought, maybe its something unique to the midi switchers, and I'd still have to get one like yours, cause so far I couldnt find those program change controls in my midi editor in DAW. Still that tip about hidden messages not being displayed in cc table is a top tier knowledge sharing, thank you a lot
@@PedalPlatform NWM I found it in my DAW!! whooooooa super happy now!
Wooop another satisfied customer 😁 Have fun!
Shame on TC Electronic for having a seriously dated USB plug type. USB-C is and has been the standard for several years. Using an older plug type is unacceptable.
Thx for a great instruction video.
So the implementation to turn effects on/off by MIDI CC is not very good currently. The effect turns on seamlessly , like pressing the psychical button on the X3, but when MIDI CC is use to turn off a pedal, there is a delay, followed by the effect tuning on again for a few milliseconds, then finally turning off. I hope TC corrects this soon. Thanks!
Great review. Thanks for the insights!
Anyone having issues connecting it to the toneprint app?
I did, for about a week after I got it. I had to get a firmware update which I could only get from Music Tribe/TC support. My X1 came with a .26 firmware, I had to update it to .28 and then after a few tries I could successfully connect to toneprint. Been working fine, ever since.
@@paulhinchman2761 Please give details on how this is done. I have to connect and disconnect bluetooth several times to get it to actually connect. I can connect over usb on windows, but on both, edits saved as user toneprints don't save the edits. Most frustrating, nothing I save to the pedal is still there next time I turn it on.
I think the EQ-200 is light years ahead of anything the competition has made, or even Boss themselves. But Boss could REALLY knock it out of the park if it addressed some of these shortcomings in an update/Mk2 model.
I have a BE-OD and just ordered this for comparison. If this beats out my BE-OD I’m gonna be a JOYO guy for life. Update: I’m now selling my BE-OD. This Dark Flame is about to be the last distortion pedal I ever buy.
The Dark Flame has more of a Revv flavour to it, but if you were to try the Uzi... 😉
@@PedalPlatform that’s why I didn’t order an Uzi at first. 😆 Didn’t want a redundancy on my pedal board.
@borisvandruff7532 makes sense, I was just making sure you weren't trying to compare like for like and then come out disappointed. 😉
In the Octaver - For the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th setting; the Filter Spacing, Filter Count, and Filter Q - what would be the down-side to maxing all of these values? It seems like more Filter Count means a better Shimmer, as you pointed out with chord voicing. The shorter the spacing the more specific each of those Filters, giving the same benefit. And the shorter the Q Value the more specific each of those Filters again... so why not max all 3? Are there values that are "too specific" and give diminishing returns or something? Thanks for the great vid!
A pedal to practise creating solo monologues in the style of David Gilmour in 'Wish you were here." And that's all. Otherwise, not a bad sustain pedal if you kill 'Fade in' and turn 'Decay' on full, no Reverb. Latch, FX on T3. Level up to your taste. I'd like some response, folks, honest. Please tell me I didnt waste $ 116.00.
Is there a way of having BOTH Tape-Delay and Octaver in the same Toneprint? I suppose that would mean finding a starting Template with both already enabled- have you come across one? Alternatively you mentioned using both Low and High Cut Filters, along with a Vibrato modulation setting, to simulate Tape- do you have a video on those particular settings? Thanks for the great vid!
GREAT VIDEO. as always . . . . . .😄
Can someone please give me a link for the flat mapping video? The link does not appear in this video when it's pointed at. There should be an option for the X3 and X5 to not use the pedal's knob values when saving a toneprint to the pedal!!! It's crazy to have the save follow the knobs.
The deep dive we've been waiting for, thanks! My only complaint is the AB mode will sacrifice the Mash feature.
I just need a good headphone amp to go with it, since it has no headphone output (even so, I chose this over the Mooer Radar or Hotone Omni) ; which headphone amp should I use? Since I want all my sound shaping to come from my pedals, with this IR box at the end, I don't the headphone amp to colour the sound _at all,_ it needs to be transparent, so I'm not sure about any of the headphone amps that are marketed to guitar players since they all look to be applying amp emulation to colour the sound before feeding the headphones.
Thanks
So glad that I held off on wasting my money on this pedal with the GFI Eneiqma coming out... It makes this pedal a stone age tool in comparison... 💥
Very helpful and informative! Thank you. I wasn't sure how MIDI was used with the Plethora; I'm considering getting the X3 now.
Excellent video and great to see these possibilities with the editing software. It me purchase a TC Electronic Plethora X3 (which includes these delays)
You do a great job on these videos. Thank you.
Great demo, thank you! No Numb nuts talking about the cliched transparency and string separation! Nice pedal!
