The fun of minecraft comes from building and exploration, but most people have a hard time being creative on the spot and making their own fun. Some mechanics in the game require you to build and find creative solutions, like building a house to store items and making farms to sustain your health. The problem comes once you get those basic things built, because the rest of minecrafts progression can be achived without building, and after the average player is done with those theres less motivation to keep going, making minecraft feel boring.

I mean... I, for one, feel 1.14's texture update ruined the visuals of the game. However, I can just use programmer art, so it's not a big deal.

I know this doesn't have anything to do with the video, but can I just say that I really like your Minecraft skin?

i used to be like that, then i started watching more hermitcraft and seeing all the youtubers going “look at this new thing that they added isnt this so great!!” and it really changed my outlook

I'd go so far as to say the new Netflix Minecraft show feels like a bit of a waste of time, because who needs that when you've got Hermitcraft? I honestly can't fathom Netflix creating something funnier, more creative, and more entertaining than any episode from the Hermitcraft server. It is truly unique and so so fun.

This was for the most part a very solid video and I agree. However I feel like you overuse anecdotal evidence far too often to make your point. Like the shoal cave bit. A solid argument can be made that shoal cave is out of the way, contains little in the way of experience or useful items for the 7th gym leaders, and that in many of the hoenn games those leaders are easy enough without the need for optional content. Your point there is seemingly built on your limited personal experience. This happens a few times through this video outside of this moment and I think it would be beneficial to avoid it in the future to make a stronger case.

I feel like people tend to forget that Minecraft is first and foremost a sandbox. Beating the dragon isn’t the end goal to most people, it’s a side quest to unlock things that make the other aspects of the game easier. Eletras so you can explore more and build larger and more complex structures with ease. Shulkers to carry more resources. Not to mention all the new things to build with that you couldn’t use before. I’m not saying that people can’t get enjoyment out of pvp and fighting. I’m just saying that’s not what the game primarily caters to. People like those you’re criticizing would likely get a lot of enjoyment out of modded servers.

I do like the end game, in which i have all the time of the world to build things, do things, explore the world. If i want to fight, i play other games.

1.21 is the perfect compromise between people like Jetstarfish and people like you. The Trial Chambers are a new challenging combat scenario (especially with Ominous Trials) but there's also just cool new things to build with brought along in the update, namely all the new Copper blocks. And the Crafter is revolutionary for Redstone. 1.21 has something for everybody, you want more progression and a combat challenge? Ominous Trials. you want to build wacky or hyper-efficient machines? Crafter. you want more building blocks to make cool bases? All the new Copper stuff.

Counterculture for minecraft doomposting would be so great im tired of all those videos popping around about the mob vote or mojang being lazy for the 34th time these kinds of videos are refreshing

this critique just doesnt feel right, i really like the powder toy because it lets me mess around. i like playing minecraft with friends because i get to mess around. but i barely play survival worlds. maybe its because im not a good builder?

I've been thinking this for ages. Not sure how "Minecraft has bad progression" is such a common statement when Minecraft worlds that are multiple years in are the coolest thing ever. I'm never gonna make one like that, but I have so much respect for the game for even allowing that.

people are just too negative, maybe because they dont want to put the effort into being creative and just want a "quick fix" of sorts. this video is heavily welcomed. fantastic work.

It's nice to see a video that highlights the good things of minecraft! It's my all time favorite game and it will always be that. It's like Lego but to infinity! And it's sad to have people constantly talk bad about it. Then just don't play it and don't make it worse for others that do enjoy it. I love Minecraft! <3

You're making the same fallacy as those other videos you criticised, assuming the existence of one primary "correct" way to play the game. Saying "Survival isn't the focus of the game, get over it" when what's being discussed is literally called Survival mode misses the point: survival, combat, and progression are aspects of the game that's as important as building/creativity. While I do agree with some of the points made in this video, I can't help but point out that it really makes it seem like you're trying to mask your opinion as a fact for drama and views, even if that is (hopefully) not the case.

Ok, but Minecraft just isn't a survival game. At least, it's not a label I'd apply to it. I think that it ONLY works because, out of the popular Open World Survival Craft games, it has the weakest survival elements, which makes basically everything in the game less irritating.

I agree and I love Hermitcraft. I haven't played the game for long (2 years) but I really admired those who are builders. Hermitcraft is the perfect genre for that. With Season 9's (my favorite season!) crossover, I'm trying to get into Empires - but then they brought over Skizzleman and Smallishbeans. Holy cow! Can Beans ever build! He's my new hero and that's tough with Scar and Grian there!

Amalgan deserves way more. The syncopation at the beginning hits so differently, the bass goes so hard, it's awesome. I would put it below ruins.

Another great thing about Hermitcraft that I found particularly great is that you don't have to watch the previous seasons to understand the current one. Some hermits reference stuff that they've done in previous seasons, but they know that they get new people at the beginning of the season. And if you happen to run out of content for the current season, or just want to watch some older Minecraft gameplay, you can just go back and watch any season

i have some minecraft projects just for making it like terraforming the end, turning a trial chambers into a city

In summer when I’m free I’m watching upto a dozen perspectives and it helps keep me entertained

terraria has inherent keep inventory on at all times, but it has a money system. when you die, you drop a good portion of your cash, and gotta go back to pick it up. but, honestly death is more of an inconvenience than a punishment in that game, as you can just store your money somewhere else. i think a lot of the terraria comparisons forget to take that into account. the game is less punishing to deaths, unlike minecraft, which can make you lose all your progress because you fell too far. sure, arguably a little bit of a silly feature to have your items despawn after a while, though. id prefer if it was like a gravestone that held your items there until you got them again, but still the idea stands that minecraft is way more punishing on death. having monsters be more powerful seems like a cool idea if all you were risking was exp or emeralds or something, but theyre VERY different games, and you cant just inject one idea of the core progression into the other and expect it to work PERFECTLY. however, yeah i do think split progression is one of the exceptions to that statement because i really do think having different armor for different situations is awesome as hell lol

The other issue when those videos focus a lot on combat is that, as you said, MInecraft isn't just about combat. And I'm horrible at it. Easy mode is genuinely too hard for me, to the point that I wanted to give up playing on my survival world (and haven't touched it in a month by now. I'm playing on creative and just building now and its been way more fun). I couldn't mine without dying over and over and over again, I couldn't keep exploring much during the night without dying (and couldnt use a bed or else i would lose where my base was since it wasnt at spawn), and other issues. Not to mention that Minecraft is meant for people of all ages to play, which includes kids, includes people new to gaming, people with not so great reflexes, older people, people who cant react fast to stuff, and many others. Those changes they suggest a lot of times would drive away so many people. Combat could have some rebalancing and all, but it is hard to implement, even when its smaller things. I mean, they've been having the experimental combat snapshots for years now, I haven't been keeping up with them, but if they're still going, it means its something that needs a lot of iterating and adjusting, and that takes time, especially for a game like Minecraft. Minecraft isn't perfect, but it is far from being bad or boring. It can get boring if you focus on one small aspect that isn't meant to be the focus and act like its a linear game instead of exploring other possibilities. It could be better in certain aspects, but acting like it should be a game that it isnt is not the solution. We could be having way more constructive and meaningful discussions if it was about what is in the game rather than what isnt. I do really appreciate your analysis of those videos, and the points you brought are really good!

I'm a Terraria player but even I love minecraft! how can i not? I will say its not the best sandbox, its more focused on survival and adventuring aspects with sandbox elements to compliment it. I love terraria for what it is and I'd never want minecraft to just be terraria

11:17 personally i would recommend starting with season 8, not only is it the shortest season, but it's also my personal favorite even though i started with season 6

YES! YES! YES! I've been talking about this for quite some time now! I even commemted on some of those "Minecraft needs progression" videos. They just DON"T GET IT. There are a lot of games with strict progression, difficulty, etc, but there's only ione Minecraft where you can do wathever you want instead of working to beat the game. If you want, you can turn MC into Terraria (or any other game) with mods, but leave vanilla to us, casual relaxed players that want to just mess around, explore and build stuff! Thank you for this!

The problems you bring up for if power creep was added are quite literally my biggest issues with Terraria (coming from someone who loves the game)
