Hey everyone, I want to apologize for putting Finale so low. I got it mixed up some remixes of Hopes and Dreams, which on review, is incorrect. This was a long process, so I probably just missed that mistake. If I were to do the list again, I would give it a score of 86 (8 10 8), putting it between Spear of Justice and Metal Crusher at 23rd. Sorry about that. All that being said I still completely stand by my opinion of STMPWYFS.

1:41 thats....the joke, its the "song that *might* play when you fight sans"....aside from the Geno route, YOU NEVER FIGHT SANS, thus it isn't in the game. It also perfectly fits who sans is on the outside, a goofball pun skeleton. It's fun, isn't serious, because despite what people pretend, sans is not this overly depressed skeleton, he's genuinely a silly goober. He does have his serious moments and is a serious character at times, however that isn't the bulk of who he is. About the whole depression thing, sans doesn't actually remember past timelines. He guesses that they might've had a better life, and he knows how hes killed you via reading your expression, but he doesn't actually remember past timelines and theres much evidence to go against it
Exactly if I remember correctly Sans is only aware the fact that the player can reset and reload and save. He only knows how many times you die judging your expression. Sans is complex but I feel that people tend to miss characteristic him as either a fun goofball comedian or a depressed skeleton that will kill on site if you just insult his brother.
EXACTLY. he judges literally EVERYTHING off your face. Like when you return after he killed you, he notices how really angry you looked and when you get to that point in the fight again he notices how you act. Sure he has some science background watching the timelines just appear and disappear but he has no idea what goes on in them.
I personally headcanon that Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans is what you get if you could’ve fought Sans on the pacifist or neutral run. Of course, that’s just an idea, but it is fun to think about.

Well they both have a very similar melody in a large part of the song, but it’s weird since that’s true (often to a greater extent then Finale and Hopes and dreams) for a lot of other undertale songs placed higher on the list. And while they have a similar melody it still remixes in different ways for both songs (not just in sounds but in the actual notes being played)
Toby Fox actually released a very interesting beta version of Undertale (the song not the game), saying it was scrapped because he thought it being so melancholic would lessen the song's effectiveness. It's most definitely worth to hear and I would love your opinion on it and other "extra"/scrapped songs such as Bereavement.
STMPWYFS was never meant to be in the game, it was soley put in the soundtrack to throw off people who expected a sans fight in the early days of undertale.
Song that might play when you fight sans is in the ost to hide the fact that megalovania is sans's boas theme which is neat. But yea its repetitive but its cool that its basic a remix of the overworld sans theme and bonetrausle mixed jn
Small correction because I love STMPWYFS and also because I'm a pedant, afaik it didn't get scrapped, it was never meant to be in the game in the first place. Based on the placement in the OST and the highly ironic title, I believe it was meant as a "sans' theme if you fought him outside of geno, but that's not gonna happen" easter egg, not just a scrapped song. EDIT : Also, why not include Power of NEO?

btw another medium is so good because it was originally a song from homestuck that went unused called "paitent" and because of that its older than a lot of the other songs so probably got more time to be fleshed out and perfected. this is true for at least a couple songs like megalovania which was used twice before undertale you can kind of sense which ones got more time to be made than others.

You clearly havent listened to what people have done with it. For a more tame example, the version used in undertale the musical, doesnt change too much but adds intentional glitches to the song, which adds a ton to it. And then some people just go wild with it

It’s largely in G Dorian while borrowing from the parallel Aeolian (as well as Phrygian and even Locrian for one chord during the intro). None of the major modes (e.g., Lydian, Ionian, Mixolydian) appear even once throughout the piece.
Update after 6 months, I can't believe how much my opinions shifted. I really likr Asgore and Finale now, (top 3) and how much I DISLIKE Death by glamour now.

Update after 6 months, I can't believe how much my opinions shifted. I really likr Asgore and Finale now, (top 3) and how much I DISLIKE Death by glamour now.
