awesome bike
Thanks! 👍
very nicely done sir!!!
Thanks mate! 👍
Dig ittt🤘
Hell yeah!! 🤘
i personlly highly advise against removing the rear belt guards it really doesn't improve the look all that much more remove much wait. if you don't mind the extra maintenance id just wait till its time to replace the belt (wether age or miles) and do a chain conversion. cost just a bit more than replacing the belt and adds a wicked look to the bike.
A chain conversion is on my list of things to do for sure! They look a heap better, but like you mentioned I’ll wait until the belt needs to be replaced.
@thewhiskythrottleclub something to watch out with a chain conversion is if your running 13in shocks or taller you'll need a chain slider otherwise the chain will grind against the passanger peg mount.
@@motopanda3741 that’s something I wouldn’t have thought about, cheers for the heads up 👍
If you twist the little tabs, instead of bending them flat, they will hold the glass in the ring and not block any light. Cheers
Awesome! I didn’t think of that, cheers for the tip! 👍
Reasonable person spoiler alert: if you actually care about your looks while driving anything remotely unsafe, the choise of your wear based on the looks should cast you into shadow dimension. Darwin award ain't gonna win itself.
I understand where you’re coming from and I suppose riding a motorbike isn’t for everyone. I’m not saying I’m going for looks over everything else, but thats the good thing about the development of riding gear, we can wear protective clothing while wearing something we think looks good. No matter what style of rider someone is, there is always going to be different levels of protective gear that will appeal to every rider.
That hoodie looks good. I’ve been rocking a Johnny Reb armoured flannel shirt/jacket recently. Far more comfortable, lighter, and more “stylish” than my other motorcycle jacket.
Johnny Reb have done a good job with the hoodie. I didn’t end up putting it in the video but even though it’s on the heavier side, I took it riding on a cold day and a hot day and I was expecting to burn up on the hot day, but it was surprisingly breathable and comfortable in the heat.
That's so cool thanks for showing us how to do that 👍
No worries at all 👍
What i find funny is Ive ridden sport bikes, crouch rockets etc on highways all over ..@360 lbs and the sportster at 500 lb plus isnt able to cruise on highways or a linger distance??? come on maaaan
The 883 does struggle on highways a bit. I’m about 80kg or 176lbs and it’s not to bad for me. The 1200 is better, but if the sportster has a chain rather than a belt, the sprockets can always be changed which can improve the gearing for highway riding.
What year is your sportster mine is 2006, has a belt drive . Hard to find anything on that exactly
Mine is a 2006 as well. Google/forums will be your best friend in finding info. Even call your local Harley and see if they can give you the info, most of them will be more than happy to help you out
Great advice ! Cheers
No worries 👍
How do u wash it ?
You can get dedicated wash solutions to wash them out with, you put the cleaner over it, let it sit for a bit and then wash the dirt out keep doing that until the water runs clear, let the filter dry 100% then cover it in filter oil. Then you bolt it back up and you’re good to go.
Mad vids
Cheers 👍👍
Mad channel bro awesome content ! Quixk question What seat do u have? I just bought my sportster 2006 and seat is uncomfortable af Im gonna try some mods
Thanks brother 👍 Just the standard sportster seats at the moment, I have a single and 2 double up seats (all standard) but it’s going to be an investment for sure to make the ride more comfortable. Let me know how you go with them or if you need any help let me know in the comments.
@@thewhiskythrottleclub il try it out and let you know
Good luck with them!
Awesome! Really appreciate it. I really never thought to do any of that.
Thanks brother, let me know if you get any of the modifications done and how you go with them 👍
I use a step bit , works perfect.Definitely looks purple from a distance.
I can’t believe I didn’t think of that! I actually have one that would have gone big enough as well!
Before
I agree, they have been changed back and they look a whole lot better
The idea was from a distance while driving the tail lights looked purple. Blue and red makes purple.
Ah there you have it! I’ll have to have a look from a distance and see how purple it makes the tail light go. Cheers 👍
They also make it kinda hard to tell the difference from taillight and brake light. Back in the 80's a buddy of mine had a blue dot taillight and I almost rear ended him bunch of times. He finally changed it and no more problems
@shameless6963 I might have to look into it and change mine back if that’s the case. Thanks for the heads up
That's pretty slick. I wonder how it would compare to an LED both day and night.
Do you mean LED with a blue dot in it or just a plain LED to compare?
PRO TIP!: Dont use electrical tape, its garbage for hot conditions. Use self fusing SILICONE TAPE! 10000% Better. Full disclosure, I used to use electric tape too👍🏻 No hard feelings mate, thanks for the vid
Great point! Yeah I used to use just electrical tape, then I moved to automotive electrical tape which is better in hot conditions but I’ll have to have a look into silicone tape. Cheers 👍
Music drives me crazy..very hard to hear your voice
Do you mean the volume of the music drives you crazy, or do you prefer no music at all while I’m talking?
@thewhiskythrottleclub no music would, be better..
@@thewhiskythrottleclub Music is OK, but not while you are talking.. but very informative vid.
Yeah I can understand that. I appreciate the feedback, I’ll give that a crack for my next video and see how it goes 👍 cheers
Hi there just wondering did you loose fuel range after doing the tank lift i thinking of doing a 2inch lift on my 2015 sportster 1200 T super low
Yeah it lost a bit of range which was expected, but it’s nothing that crazy. It’s kind of a trade off, the bigger the lift you go the more range you will lose.
Would add tire puncture repair kit and some CO2 canisters and we good to go
Absolutely! I can’t believe I didn’t think of that. It should be a staple in every tool roll
Huh? You should really relocate the starter/ignition switch if you're goin through all that trouble MATE! Because those spark plug wires look like shyte!
That was just a prototype I made up, I’ll eventually get around to making the bracket out of stainless steel and relocating the ignition some where more practical
Tank lift and coil relocation looks like it makes that job easier!
100%! So much more room to work which is perfect for the front
Sometimes they will leak oil from the two bolt holes that the front upper motor mount is attached to I've seen them cracked deep inside from someone previously using too much locktite on the bolt causing a hydrolock type of situation
Both situations sound like a horrible time!
all useless modifications that make your bike look shitty. The mirror flip is retarded and taking the belt guard off is very unsafe.
Stock with orage bulbs with a smoke lense 👍
Smoke lenses always look good don’t they. I might have to swap them back and give that a go!
Buell heads are a hot upgrade tip.
I’ll have a look into them. Cheers
Sportys are so fun; I’ve taken my 90th anniversary one over some pretty crazy roads in the Rockies and Black Hills, loaded it down an went touring, played dirtbike with it. One of the funnest bikes I’ve ever had. My other Harley is a 100th anniversary fXRS-C. Harley’s two best bikes, IMO
They are a great bike. Light enough to throw them around a bit, but have enough power when you need it.
I used this similar process on my front forks (2007 sportster 1200 c) and it turned out good. I just need to get the buffer pad for the drill.
It’s a long process isn’t it, but 100% worth it!
On earlier models the coils sat in that space at the top of the frame under the front of the tank, to get that nice see through look, we used to do some creative wire rerouting and reposition them down near the key mount.
It makes a difference having all that space under the tanks doesn’t it?! My coil pack was there, but I ended up relocating them a while ago, down near the spark plugs.
Those little front indicators look pretty sweet!
They aren’t as bad as I thought they would be. I don’t want to spam my own videos but if you’re wondering how they go, check out my video on them 👍
You should go to a swap meet look belt chain guard cut it just reach’s the sprocket looks good and stick have the safety 🇺🇸🤙😎
That’s an awesome idea! I’ll have to have a look into it for sure. Cheers 👍
Thanks, man. Super useful.
All good mate, glad I could help 👍
@@thewhiskythrottleclub It’s a job I need to do shortly. Was wondering if I really needed to remove the derby cover also (like every other video). Glad the answer is no. 🙂
100% it’s easy do. Follow your service manual if you don’t have one give your local Harley a call for details if you can’t find them online. If you get stuck let me know and I’ll help you out
Sportster is probably the best built bike Harley made, it needs suspension upgrades that’s all, the motor is bulletproof if you maintain it
100% agree! They are a great bike as long as you take care of them! Mine has never skipped a beat.
Why would you remove the belt guard? My 2022 Harley XL883N Iron 883 has the belt guard on it and to me it looks really cool.
Some people think it makes the back end look a bit better and it gives the bike more of a “chopper” look.
I got a first Gen evo sportster 883. Been a fun pain in the ass building up over the years. It's currently a Hammer 1275 with V2 cams and some other fun stuff. I had to do all that just to get it to out run my 96 suzuki intruder vs800.lol I hate the fact you Aussies have to pay a premium for harley stuff just to get it there. I got a few videos of mine on here as well to check out for some ideas.
How long did it take you to get it to where it’s at now? It makes it harder to mod bikes, especially when the shipping for parts from the states is the same price if not more than the actual parts themselves.
@@thewhiskythrottleclub I've had that one for about 8 years. It's spent most it's life as an 883. I had a 1250 kit on it for a couple years and the 1275 be a year on Christmas. Part of me wishes I kept it an 883 for safety reasons lol.
@rustyshackleford4059 it would have a fair bit of poke to it now! I checked out a couple of your shorts, the bike looks good.
Excellent, question: your torque wrench, is there a certain one you need ?
Most of them do the same thing, but the only thing to keep in mind is that there are different sized drives, so I from memory there is a 1/2” 1/4” 3/4” and 3/8” drive, but you can get socket adaptors so that any size socket will fit the drive that you end up buying.
@@thewhiskythrottleclub Thank you for your response.
No dramas at all! I’m happy to help where I can
Bro, that was awesome, thanks for this vid 👍👍
Cheers for your support brother 👍
just bought a sporty. would love to see vids for mods under $20 and under $50. Feels like everything I want to buy is like $500 haha
Hell yeah! What sporty did you get? Mods can be bloody expensive and they start to add up when there’s a couple of things you want to get done. No worries, I’ll get cracking on a video! 👍
@@thewhiskythrottleclub awesome dude! I picked up a 2021 iron 883. I'm a bigger dude and everyone was saying I'd be bored with the power, but honestly I love the thing. Sporties rule dude. Love your vids!
@chezfeliz they are a good little bike with enough power for what they are hey?! stay upright, and thanks for the support 👍 I appreciate it.
If you live in a city. Marketplace is your best friend!
That’s it. Where I live in Australia, it doesn’t have a great deal of Harley parts on it usually but I’m always on the lookout for a bargain!
Forwards are only helpful if you're 6 ft tall. Then you're still able to stand for bumps if you're forward on the seat in a more aggressive riding position. Otherwise you're just absorbing bumps with your spine. I really only see a benefit to forwards when you're trying to unload all the weight off the rear end.
I might have take the bike out for another long ride and see if I pull up sore afterward. And if so I might have to think about changing them back.
I am 5'10 on a good day. I can stand on my forwards when needed when I see something coming. I also am not getting my shins banged up on the Mid Pegs.
@@thewhiskythrottleclub forwards are fine for smooth roads. Once you get into some poorly maintained streets, they're terrible.
The streets here in Australia are pretty bad but I haven’t experienced any discomfort from having forward controls yet. I took my bike out over the weekend and I can still stand on the forward controls if needed, it’s not as easy to stand on as mids, but it’s still possible by pulling yourself up using the handlebars.
@@thewhiskythrottleclub I live at the foothills in the mountains. So only half our back roads are paved, and the ones that were paved look like a bombed out airfield from D-Day come spring. Our Interstates aren't much better thanks to our Governor pissing away our road money. I have honestly taken my Sportster through pastures that were smoother than our highways.
Loving your channel
Cheers brother, I appreciate your support!
Great video
Thank you 👍
The problem with forward controls is that they change the saddle (yes, it is a saddle, not a seat), into a seat. Motorcycles are designed to be ridden with some weight on the saddle, and some (sometimes most) of your weight on the pegs. A lot like riding a horse. Putting the pegs forward like that makes it impossible to lift your arse off the saddle, meaning you absorb every road bump hard up your spine, and causes numb-bum after a couple of hundred kms. Every HD guy I know with forwards lasts a couple of hundred km tops before they need to stop, get off and stretch. They all complain about bad backs... My solution is to have mid-pegs/controls (which allow me to distribute (and vary when necessary) my weight across saddle, pegs and handlebars, AND I put 'highway' pegs up front for longer trips, allowing me to change positions and stretch out from time to time. The best of both worlds.
I haven’t taken mine out for a real long ride yet so I haven’t noticed the numb bum but it’s something I’ll keep in mind for sure. I might have to switch back if it gets bad.
Job well done mate. Cheers
Cheers 👍
Have you changed them out on any other bikes? I've got a 2005 c90t and I would love to add these on but can a novice do it?
This is the first bike of mine I have put them on. I’m a novice as well and I found installing the forward control easy, on a c90t I wouldn’t know if they mount in the same way but I can’t imagine they would be too different to install.
I always have forward control's. I have a 34 inch inseam and I usually do long rides so mid controls are not very comfortable.
They are well worth it hey?!
I wouldnt say changing foot position makes it a "smoother" ride, just a different seating position. Shocks, forks, seat, and engine mounts make the ride smoother. Forwards have always been goofy to me as I started on sport/dirt bikes. Mid controls feel more stable. But to each their own.
You’re right, I should have put more comfortable instead of smooth 🤦♂️ I know what you mean, coming from a dirk bike background where you essentially hug the bike with your knees to forwards is a huge change!
Worth it for me because of my height, but you GOTTA put a better seat on these things if you're gonna do it to protect from that horrible tailbone pain. I know they ain't cool looking, but a seat with a backrest is a gamechanger with forward controls! If you're really not into that then a step up seat.
100%! That’s something I will have to look into, I haven’t been on a real long ride with the forwards yet so I haven’t experienced any tailbone pain yet. But that sounds like a terrible time.
@@thewhiskythrottleclub It's such a big difference. It made me sell my last cruiser several years ago because It got to the point where my ass wasn't recovering between rides but now I can do 200+ miles no problem.
That would be a bloody rough ride going that far being in pain. At the end of the day if a seat isn’t cool looking but makes it more comfortable to do big trips, then that sounds like an easy sacrifice of style for comfort
