I feel very grateful for stumbling into your video. Recently I have been in a sky marathon! I want to complete all realm's constellations, and get everything I can out of the events, but I question myself why do I even do this, everything I collect from the realms and the events I don't like. (tbh I don't really like this game's taste for fashion, although it's fine if you do ) I actually love my current outfit with the most basic possible items, I am a sucker for the 2 lower ponytails haircut, I cannot let it go, and I love my long pijama pants. Sky has just been hitting me right with that “need to collect” that I have, but this opened my eyes, because I would hate to start hating this game, it's kind of like the only type of game that I can stand nowadays. And I didn't came back to it these last few days to candle farm, I did to explore more...! Now, all I hope for is that my change of perspective will also change my gameplay!

A tumblr post was what helped me to separate from Sky, a tumblr post about addictions and being able to recognize them I spent way too much money on stuff, and the money wasn't mine, it was my parents', and with the help of that tumblr post, I realized that playing like I was was horrible I played from nearly the very beginning of Season of Dreams to Season of Aurora, where I lost one ultimate reward, and then stopped at about the one after Remembrance (Remembrance was a Vault season that I really enjoyed for its gut-punches) For any Sky players I'm pretty sure I stopped playing every day constantly towards the end of that season that took place in Isle of Dawn, the one with all those masks? I played a bit for Aviary but didn't do comparatively very well and Moments was enjoyable, I can't quite remember the timeline of seasons but now I am glad that I didn't keep going -A Season of Dreams veteran (my threshold for "veteran" is having at least 11 flaps max)

Sheeeesh! Before this video, the only controversy I knew surrounding that hat was that the Dancing Performer was one of the most viscously anticipated Traveling Spirits ever. This was much worse than I thought it was gonna be...informative stuff though, thanks for that 🤍

Thing is, Jehova is a HUGE Chinese nationalist, he usually tries to swipe is controversies under the rug instead of actually addressing them and holding himself accountable 🤷‍♂️ one example was during lunar new year (either this or last year, I can’t remember right) What happened is on his dog’s fanpage, he hosted a giveaway for some items on sky and called the celebration „Chinese new year” which made the rest of Asian players very upset Instead of apologising, he quietly removed the post and never mentioned it again

They could had gone neutral but no,they always favoritize the chinese server no matter what

It is a fun game at first until you are aware of grinding and FOMO. That’s when it becomes a chore. I’ve played it for two years every day, until I had to go to college and no longer had time. Since then I’ve only checked up on it on holiday events.

This game had a promising start but now it’s just a fancy dress money grab anxiety machine

From the eyes of a new player, Sky is a perfect social game. Yes, it requires a lot of grinding for cosmetics, instruments, shared space creation, etc - but as a moth, I've had TONS of fun with friends with almost NONE of that. 😊 This game makes me feel something that only Kingdom Hearts has even come close to.

The CCP is a giant snowflake and has turned their people into selfish, desperate brats. The ccp needs everything to revolve around them, and unlike Americans, that are ignorant to other cultures and are american centric in their own world...china tries to claim or erase other cultures and wants everyone to be china centric or they throw a fit. It's why so many things suck because everyone has to make it suitable for china or change it. (I know it's not just china, but it's mostly china.) No hate to chinese people individually.. but the ccp needs to stfu, eff off, and let china just get along with the rest of the world because that drama over a pixel hat is insane. Just let it go, let koreans have the hat.

Making a seperate comment because why not. Since Netease legally has to promote Chinese culture within the servers, I imagine that TGC and jenova might have been forced or pressured to say this. However had they not have been forced I feel four valid responses would have prevented further trouble. A. no response. Silence is a powerful tool, and in this case it can say "we aren't putting more energy into the conflict." B. a "netease and TGC have different goals" statement. This basically says "we and netease agree to disagree." due to potential legalities regarding videogames in China this one is likely the safest statement as it basically puts accountability on Netease, it also pushes for "Death of the Author," which seems to be what TGC encourages with their cosmetics. Since Netease is not the author, it can be said that their promoting Dancing Performer as a Chinese outfit is just their interpretation. E.g. We at TGC work hard to make sure that we make cosmetics that either stay away from one singular culture, or represent multiple cultures that people can see themselves in. As such we want players to be able to see themselves in the world no matter their cosmetics. This can sometimes come at odds with Netease, which has an obligation to promote Chinese culture within its own server. As such, we acknowledge that Netease might use their interpretation of certain cosmetics, including those of the Dancing Performer spirit, to promote Chinese culture in their servers. This does not change our process when making certain cosmetics. C. Multiculturalism or Cultural Pluralism approach: this would tell everyone that both views on the cosmetics are valid, and it's good to feel represented even if it's not the intention. It also would have said "you both need to coexist and be okay with each other." E.g. "We at TGC work hard to make cosmetics that either stray away from representing any singular culture, or instead make cosmetics that multiple cultures can see themselves in. As a company that supports cultural pluralism and multiculturalism we are happy to see that players of multiple cultures including both Chinese and Korean cultures feel seen and represented through the cosmetics of Dancing Performer." D. Delete the hat if all else failed, until the community can fix themselves and make a statement that basically says "if you can't behave then you don't get it." E.g. "We at TGC promote multiculturalism and pluralism and neutrality by making cosmetics that either don't represent any cultures, or instead make cosmetics that multiple cultures can see themselves in. We disapprove of the tensions within the community on international clothing styles and as such, due to not seeing any improvement within the community regarding multiple cultures have decided to remove Dancing Performer's hat from the game until further notice. We apologize for the confusion we caused and are disappointed in how our community is handling these tensions." This would have been a last resort as it would make everyone equally angry. But it is easy in the case the community needs a brutally hard lesson.

Honestly the reason why Korea and China don't get along is because chinese people tend to claim that every culture came from China, they got everything on their own version on every games or any platform and yet chinese people seems not to get satisfied what they have and as a Asian person I totally I agree that this controversy shouldn't have gotten so far but in the other side i understand korea's frustration about the situation and in Asia country, culture thing is really important to us to discuss. I remember reading all the boats and people talking about it most of the time makes me sad to watch and in the other hand, both companies handled the situation very badly in my opinion and it's sad that most korean players has stopped playing this game including all the friends i made. There is some few koreans plays this game but most of them are new players who doesn't know anything about this controversy but i hope one day we could get all along together in this game.

yeah honestly the peak of this game has come and gone already. I've been playing since the season of the little prince. And in my eyes tgc has gotten incredibly greedy, and fomo is being relied on. I hate whenever the company is like, bring your friends and enjoy the story! What story. Oh you mean the one that doesn't really get expanded upon. They just keep slapping new seasons on the label, but not actually adding to the core story. I want lore. They're just stringing players on. I hate that of the new mechanics introduced, those are only meant for one season area. You want to swim in other realms? that's funny because tgc only meant for a few areas to be used. Or, should more realms be acessible through wind paths? No, because they are never going to return to that ever again. TGC doesn't believe in altering the main look of the realms for some reason. But I guess that tracks since speaking of bugs, the nintendo switch version of this game is poorly optomized. They keep introducing content, and never really taking a second to address real issues with sky.

What the heck I love the Korean resemblance it's the sole reason why I bought the season of dreams pass, hopefully the global one stays the way it is since china servers in almost every game have their own thing going on. They even have own versions of different games for sakes

This controversy is one if the reasons why I had stopped. The other is their Daily farming loop being so tedious. Not to mention, the IAPs.

Wow - I’ve been playing since Rhythm. I’m surprised this is the first I’m hearing about this! Personally, I always considered the hat Korean, which should never have been an issue at all. It’s not like Sky has any shortage of Chinese-inspired cosmetics??? Let people have something, my goodness. I don’t know more than anyone else, but I’d put money on Netease pressuring TGC into changing, and making statements on, the hat. I understand being proud of your culture, but when that bleeds into superiority and considering other cultures a threat, even in a game? That’s not healthy (and I say this as an American - we’re also very grossly exceptionalist!). TGC should have just left it alone, although I guess appealing to a large market was more important to them (which with current IAP trends, sadly doesn’t surprise me).

I swear everywhere I hear about china they've always been the bad egg, every time

i was so excited to play sky because i got to play journey in class one day and loved the atmosphere and exploration. i signed up for the android pre-download and everything. i definitely hoped that i could make friends in the game but my anxiety was/is crippling and it was intimidating to fail people. i did get out quite a bit from the game, from exploration to discovering secrets with others, and i'll always be grateful for that and the brief brushes of acquaintanceship before we went our separate ways. but the grind. the grind was insane and made me redo maps i feared or the dreaded last level that i've never done. i love collecting but i wasn't going to sacrifice my time and hands for a game that was callous with me. it was one of the first games that made me realize that i was spending too much time for nothing, that it wasn't healthy and i didn't want that for myself. it was like a gacha game, investing so much for little results. after the little prince, after abyss season i just stopped, my time spent in the game wasn't worth what it should be. idk, i have a lot of feelings for this game that maybe wasn't for me (in terms of the socializing aspect) but i still appreciate what it wanted to accomplish. i will always be proud of completing the krill levels and think fondly of the multiplayer puzzles, of people spamming their calls and emotes, but i'm not sure when i'll log on again. thank you for the video, you helped verbalize and explain a lot of the mixed feelings and experience i didn't understand at the time. it sucks so much to see their beginning and how they wanted to go against the grain, then to become that very grain.

For a game about playing as a child, it makes you feel like your playing as an adult. Once you complete the main part of the game, theres nothing you can really do but grind and make friends. Making friends is probably the best part about this game. But when you grind everyday, it starts to feel like labor. And once you've completed a bunch of quests for the spirits, they don't do anything except give you an award you have to pay with (overpriced) candles. And played this game LATE, and there are so many things I can't do because all the stuff before was limited. I still play the game, but I've taken a long break from it because it ended up causing more stress than anything else. It's honestly disappointing :(

I'm so sick of these controversies everywhere :/ Can't we just all try to understand each other and communicate better to avoid misunderstandings?? Is it that difficult to stay accountable or on the otherside to forgive?? This world is so ugly. Maybe it really was made for greedy, heartless politicians to bring war everywhere. It's also pretty questionable how tgc didn't bring back dancing performer as ts when spirits from assembly and little prince has returned already, only until the ts vote that they made a visit Note: Dismiss ts from gratitude also suffer the same prob, but it's highly abt it used to be an iap before the release of the season?

Since the chinese server is run by netease and not TGC i dont think TGC would have a good say as to why the hat was changed, as the change likely came from netease and not TGC.

I used to love exploring, but then I got sucked into the seasonal cosmetics. I always waste my money and buy the pass only to not mentally be able to keep the grind and never get the cosmetics I wanted. Now, with all the events coming? Sure, it's free, at least some of it. But with a job, mental health, friends, other games, and other social events. I just dont have the time or motivation. I want a game with lore, more exploration, socializing, and relaxation. The game that I would play after a long day of work and feel calm.

It's incredible, in an ironic way, that we can't express opinions like these on the game's social midias, like on the official discord. People call themselves "the friendliest community in gaming", but when you say that the candle run is too exhausting, that the prices are absurd, that it's high time for TGC to listen to the community more and make significant changes so that we don't become so mentally exhausted, the so-called "best community in gaming" comes down on you, insults you and calls you a hater. They say that "if you don't like the game, then just stop playing". They try SO hard not to know how to interpret a simple sentence. It's sad. And that's why TGC doesn't care. The game community is not united, people are only interested in their personal experiences and not in those of all players. Because they can pay for everything, they can spend tons of money buying candles, and they already have a comfortable amount of candles to worry about other players.

I started during the end of little prince, so my first season to experience was flight. Even at my most active during shattering, I was unable to keep up and get everything because it required hours each day. I feel like less and less new spirits offer the clothing they wear, as well, and some of them are ultimate rewards leaving us to waste seasonal candles on random spells and furniture, which would make more sense to be available in the furniture shop or maybe a new traveling spirit.

I started this game when it came out in 2019, and I played this game religiously for YEARS. But after a while I got so bored and stressed of the constant grind. I decided to come back to it because of the Moomin season coming out but the moment I reopened the game I was overwhelmed with all the new things and areas that oddly felt vacant. Not to mention it also felt impossible to get any of the cosmetics without becoming stressed about it. I still haven’t gone back to fully play again and I fear after this Moomin season I will be abandoning it for good. It’s a sad feeling but it’s just not fun for me anymore.
