First Oil Change 2024 Subaru Forester Wilderness
มุมมอง 4.3K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
This video shows how I changed the oil for the first time on our 2024 Subaru Forester Wilderness. I wanted to change the oil early at 1,000 miles as we plan to keep this vehicle for many years. The first 1,000 miles has the most engine wear.

2018 Civic Mirror Repair
มุมมอง 42K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, I walk through the steps to repair a broken Honda Civic side mirror. This is the 10th Generation Civic which is produced from 2016 to 2020 (maybe 2021?). The parts are readily available from Honda dealerships, but note that the "skull cap" is dependent upon the color of your car. In this case, the color code is NH731P. Look on the manufacturer's sticker inside the driver's door j...
2004 Honda Pilot Alarm Repair & Liftgate Lock
มุมมอง 24K5 ปีที่แล้ว
I woke up at 4AM on a cool, rainy evening to the sound of my 1st Gen Pilot's alarm blaring: "HONK, HONK, HONK!" Did someone attempt to break in? Was anything stolen? Nope... In fact, all looks fine. Reset the alarm and guess what happens 5 minutes later? Yep... Something is broken, but what? It turns out to be a bad sensor in the tailgate lock. When humid, wet, and somewhat cool, the sensor gro...
10th Gen Honda Civic Si A-Pillar Rattle
มุมมอง 12K5 ปีที่แล้ว
Honda Civic model years 2016-2019 (also called 10th Gen Civics) are prone to either dash rattles or A-pillar rattles. My car was also affected by this. This video shows how I corrected this problem. Created with Movavi Video Editor www.movavi.com/videoeditor/?c=ve14
2018 Civic Si Winter Tire Update
มุมมอง 7535 ปีที่แล้ว
Last Fall (2018) I bought a used set of 2007 vintage Civic Si wheels. This video is my thoughts on how the winter tires I mounted on them worked over the winter months. To run these 2007 wheels on my 2018 Civic, I had to use 3mm wheel spacers on the front to clear the calipers. The spaces are flat, but the wheels still seat on the hubs. I had considered buying longer lug studs, but ultimately d...

I am NEVER going to buy another Honda again 100% because their engineering managers placed the oil filter in the WORST possible location for DIY oil changers like me. It ALWAYS makes a total mess of the chassis, drain pan, and driveway. Smarten up, HONDA !!!
That is one huge channel lock. You shouldn’t have to use a tool to unscrew any oil filter because most oil filter has a rubber gasket.
Excellent video. Thank you Sir!
How do I buy the bottom half plastic part of the mirror on a 2018 Civic si coupe?
@@colbycivic Honda parts website or go to your local dealer parts department. Note: if you go (or call) in person, get a list of all the parts numbers you need, then order on-line. It will save you money.
Why so many oil changes before 5000? Im thinking about buying a Forrester but that’s weird and expensive
@@MiDeb These changes are not required by Subaru. Subaru’s maintenance schedule states the first oil change at 6,000 miles. I am doing extra oil changes because it is better for the engine (which I plan on keeping a long time) and oil changes are cheap if you do them yourself.
Awesome! I’ll do the second oil change soon. Just past 3,000 miles.
I have the exact same year car & colour.
This was a life saver! This helped me alot! Yeah Dealer said have to replace the whole mirror. So i just asked them for the part number and did it myself! Just go slow and carefully and all is good! Thanks again!
@@VTYaku glad it worked out!
Excellent! Now change the oil at the following miles: 1,000; 3,000; 5,000; then every 5k.
My gf bought a 24 Forester Wilderness Edition last January. Love it. Easiest oil change ive ever done with the filter location. Using Mobile 1 filters and oil.
This was a super helpful video! What a simple process but you documented and explained it well. I just installed some basic Sherpa crossbars and I’m very satisfied initially. Thanks for making this!
Can you share the drain and fill plug gasket part numbers?
Neat tip!
Much thanks!
My dealership just quotes me $189 in Chicagoland
Appreciate this video, also any idea what size crush washers you buy?
I believe one 18mm and one 20mm. (Going off memory here…)
@@brianaustin1328 Awsome thank you sir
My crush washer and the drain fill plug were stuck together too! So weird. I just left it that way. Oh well, I'll get it next time lol
I did too! 😂 It looked like it didn't have one on it but from what other's are saying there is. It's not leaking.
does any1 knows if it is possible to instal a side mirror with camera on a coupe? can i change the right door wire harness from a 2018 to install it on my 2016?
for extra safety i put a jack stand under the frame just in case. I heard sometimes thos plastic ramps will collapse under weight just sayin
Just seeing this my kids civic passenger side mirror was it. Where did everyone go to get the housing just to the dealer or website im googling and the only things coming up is the entire mirror assembly
Either go to the dealer or try Honda Parts Now
where can i purchase this?
I got mine from my local Honda dealer.
black filter are better then the blue one.
I have heard this too. What is the reason for this?
@@brianaustin1328 better construction. Mr. Subaru has videos on this.
Black ones are actually built in Japan as opposed to the blue ones made by the Chinese/Taiwanese
@@ElberGalarga22 This is quasi true. The black filter that comes with the Japanese built Forester is a Tokyo Roki filter 15208AA160 made in Japan. The typical US dealership stock the past few years has been a blue Honeywell/Fram filter (15208AA15A) made the in USA, although for a few months during the pandemic they sourced a generic blue filter elsewhere because of supply shortages. Late last year Subaru USA switched over to black Tokyo Roki filters made in Indonesia (15208AA20A).
@@Th3Think3r quasi true… I’ll take it cheif 🎩
I find if you leave the drain bolt out and then just turn the filter enough to break the seal and then leave it for a minute or two, you’ll have no oil coming out of the filter 🤌🏻
You're holding the channel locks wrong. Short end in direction of force always.
Good to know! Thanks!
Where did you purchase the new crush gasket for drain plug?
Amazon. 10 pack for $6.99
Thanks for doing the dirty work 😀This is exactly what I need. I’ll hope it works out when the housing arrives next week. If I escape injury free it will truly be miraculous, thanks again!
A few scrapes, no loss of blood- thanks again! Come out perfect
thanks for this, just got parts from my dealer, saving me $180 bucks
I have heated one…. This one has point to attach heated wires
what year is that? I want your tail lamps
2012
@@brianaustin1328looks great… did you do anything to fill in the channel between the mounting brackets? Dies water pool in there?
@@juanshaftpatel7488 I did not put anything there and have not noticed any pooling.
A pair of household rubber gloves are a good investement. You cuff them so you don´t get hot oil running down your arm.
One question, how did you take the camera out of there? I don’t think I was able to see correctly
I didn’t have to as the housing was destroyed where the camera fastener connected to it.
I recently purchased a 2018 honda civic lx and its also just started making the rattling noise after driving on uneven roads. I pushed the A pillar trim in more and the sound would disappear for a while and it comes back! I guess this is the honda quality now..
Nice video - I’m happy I have my first four free though….
Thank you very much for this. The key point, for me, was prying the mirror off of the gimbal. I had no idea that it was merely snap-fitted onto the gimbal, and that it could be gently pried off. I was about to return the housing and cap that I had bought and buy an entire new mirror assembly. After watching this, I was able to wrap up the job quickly. 😊
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback!
Very nice truck! The sport model is pretty awesome too!
We agree!
It’s not a truck.
Thanks for sharing! Have you been on some epic journeys with it since making this video?
Yes! Just over 10,000 miles, 9 US National Parks, 3 Canadian Provincial parks, 40+ nights in a RTT. Plus, another 3,000 miles towing a travel trailer with a roof box. Excellent rack!
@@brianaustin1328 Awesome! Hopefully our resume will be as impressive in a years time! Have you experienced anything loosening up on you? And also, did you fill the gap left by removing the stock rack with a weather strip?
@@doriangates9918 no loosening (and I checked a couple of times after some off-roading) and I did not fill the gap in the roof where the old rack covering was.
Dude, you just saved me a huge headache with my 23 Integra. I was hearing something on the passenger side rattle every time my rpm hit around 3k or i drove over bumps. I'll try this fix next weekend and see if that solves it. I bet it's the same process to remove in mine. Liked, appreciated and subscribed!
the satisfaction i get when i find the video showing me exactly what i need is awesome. thank you for posting this.
How did you know that you needed this one?
It had the most movement when shifting between reverse and drive. I ended up replacing all the engine mounts a few months after this one. The side and the front do most of the work.
Can you do a transmission fluid change?
I will when I’m between 50k and 60k miles.
@@brianaustin1328I went to Honda last week got 31k miles did a engine oil for free but the transmission flush oil cost me $438 there's only one plug in front of the transmission kinda like the rear differential I believe technician drained by using some pump etc
Thank you SO much for doing this video. I can’t tell you how grateful I am!!❤❤❤
Any added wind noise that you were able to detect? Worth the money overall?
Life saver
Looks like you have a nail in your spare tire?
Thanks!!!
Any idea where to get the small metal ring that goes around the white piece that moves the mirror? Replacing mine and that’s missing
Looks great! Driving impressions? Any other feedback?
Works great, no issues. Wind noise is minimal. I’ve carried a RTT, canoe, lumber, 4x8 sheets of plywood, etc. I highly recommend
Hey where this part you got pls tell me
Website called hondapartsnow . Com
Thank you 🙏🏼
Thank you again. Followed the instructions and mirror is repaired no muss no fuss. Appreciated greatly again
