That rough spot on your stone is contamination caused by a larger piece of diamond than there should be. Those will scratch your knives. The pieces should all be of the same size and distributed evenly.
The steel is pretty soft in my experience and really not an edge holder but definitely takes an edge.
Thanks for posting. Glad to see you back.
Wonder what your IQ is
You should watch Kieth V Johnson to learn about these better
I got irritated with DMT and went away from them for a while. I've tried almost all the major diamond plate brands. Well, I'm back to DMT.
Just starting to learn to sharpen so glad i found your channel thank you so much for making these vids i could listen to you all day.Respect love from the UK.👍
Heard about your channel from a random Amazon review and figured I'd start from the beginning. Much respect, you got a new sub
@@RustedTypewriter that's cool lol. And welcome
The 119 Special is a Classic. The newer one is as well but this is a classic.
Spyderco is bad about that. That's my only real complaint about them.
That John Juranich book is a great read for newbies and experienced sharpeners alike.
Just signed up for your Patreon, you share a wealth of knowledge here. Thank you
@@dmitryk754 well thank you kind sir. Much appreciated.
Wise worked here
rooster i cannot for the life of me get a hair whittling edge. Im thinking part of the reason is because my angle consistency is utter garbage but even still i can get "shaving" edges. any tips on how to find your angle after you take a look at the edge off the stone?
@@nisamvise1724 well that takes LOTS of practice. Keep at it! What stone are you coming off of?
@@roughroosterknifesharpenin5531 typically im starting on a dans or brookstone company washita and then doing a bit of refinement on a translucent or black, i need to work on being more patient and not rushing it
I'm a hand sharpener to. Just don't have any Dan's. Would you barter?
To much talking , not enough action !
Dude. Super, SuPeR excited you just made another video. I just started watching your channel five or six weeks ago. When I started watching I noticed you hadent made content in a few years and I was a little bummed. Really hope you keep them coming. Subscribing immediately.
@@MarcJacobs-iq6yr Thank you
Glad to see a Crystolon video. I love my fancy resin bonded diamond stones, but I'm enjoying the idea of having a nice simple setup to mess around with. I'm thinking of challenging myself to stick with a 2x6 Crystolon and a strop for a month or so. See how good I can get by with a minimalist setup.
Just found you and subscribed!
@@kellydragna7632 thank you
I perchaced 2 Dan's stones 8 by 3 inch it cost me 1000 pound black and white translucent
I have been wondering about you. Glad to see you posting! Hope all is well with you and the fam.
Just an FYI, don't ever boil your stones unless they are true stones like these. I guess in other words, don't ever boil a bonded stone like a ceramic Whetstone.
Glad to see your back, You got me into freehand sharpening years ago. Hope to see more vids in the future!
Nice video Chris. Always enjoy seeing you sharpening. One of the nicest Case knives I've seen.
Hey Chris....good to hear from you again. More content coming?
That is a beautiful Case. And I'm not a big Case fan. We need to do a YT live together sometime. Let's give the people what they want!
You are breathing heavily brother, vaping isn’t good
Sharp Pebble stone. I saw Ryky from burffection test one and recommend one ages ago.
Wow! That 71 Case is a Thing of Beauty Brother! ❤❤❤🔪🔪🔪🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲💯💯💯😝👊
Was that a 220 grit Chosera Chris? 🤔🤔🤔
Woo hoo! 😝👊🔪🔪🔪🔪🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲💯💯💯 Nice to see you back Brother! Missed your Sharpening Videos. Your Sharing of Knowledge and Help for Knife Sharpeners. Cheers from New Zealand 🌏🌿
Gorgeous blade. Looking forward to seeing your videos again.
I appreciate the compliments, sir. It's taken years of practicing every day and watching lots of RRKS videos to get where I am. I'll have to see what I have in the way of supplies. I can probably throw a few strops together if there is any interest. 8-9oz tooling leather on an 1.5" aluminum backer. There's a lot of life in one of those strops.
@sharpwhits0167 hey sharpwhits was wondering if you possibly had any if those stops rooster was showcasing for sale I'd love to have one brother
@@TMDtwista let me see if I have any put together. If not, I have enough aluminum stock to make one more.
@sharpwhits0167 ok that would be awesome! What would u charge me for it?
@TMDtwista probably around $20 shipped.
Do you prefer smooth side, rough side or one of each? Even the smooth side will have some knap to it so it will hold compound better.
Welcome back, man! I'll never use another sharpening system (Arkansas Stones) because of your videos!
Good to see you back on TH-cam!
Good to see you back! King brand waterstones are great stones at their price point. Sharp pebble that blue and white one are the chinese made amazon garbage. From what ive heard they work but are too expensive for their performance and they dish very quickly. So they're not good for beginners due to how fast they wear and they're not good for epxerienced people because theres so much better out there for only a little bit more money.
Oh man your back good to see you again, but no diamonds and arkansas this time lol what a changeup. Its good to experiment around sometimes i feel i run all types of stones, but mainly have to say im just using diamonds at least for reprofiling find everything else is just too slow. Im one of your learners and i dont think id be able to sharpen the way i do now without your videos. I have even tried to teach friends and refer them to your channel as well. That case sure is nice.
Hey chris! Good to see you back. I recently had mohs cancer surgery on my face, during my recovery I rewatch all your videos as I usually do a lot of times. I don't look for knife related info on other people's channels, only yours! Thank you for the entertainment and all your knowledge about sharpening. Keep up the great work. Looking forward for more videos. I might shoot ya an email soon. Thanks again!
That’s nice case there 😮
Omg the oh is back
Most skilled sharpener around hands down
I thought you got lost! Welcome back!
He had some public meltdowns on a few videos that he deleted. Hopefully he’s in a better place.
So good to see you back!!!
First of all it was great seeing you with another video. I commented on the teaser thumbnail, thought i saw an india stone in the sink, but i see i was wrong. Sorry about the confusing comment there. I might have cried a little when you started sharpening that beauty, but if someone wants to sharpen it, its theirs to do with it what they want. The reprofile looks great, i would have slipped and left a scar or scratch for sure. Hope to see the finished result and maybe a video on the stocman too. I like to put different grit finishes on the different blades for different cutting tasks and love a big 75 stockman. Never got into waterstones. I know they work great, but just never liked the idea of all the prep, water, bridge etc. I try to keep it simple and not confuse myself. See ya next time.
He’s back he’s finally back
Awesome
Good to see you back man. Hopefully there’s more to come.
Pretty coke bottle, you soak the india stones? I figured you just used oil or dawn and water. Any better results that way? I been using the dawn and water on everything except diamonds and been pleased. Or am i mistaken on what i see in the sink?
Super surprised to see this pop up. Welcome back.
Great to have you posting again. Missed you.
