Confirmed, I recently bought 7 dmt stones , 8x3 diasharps, 2 out of them have noticeable uncoated patches near edges. Still useable but frustrating to see. I really like venev stones, i have a several different sizes and grits, no issues of any kind.
@@roughroosterknifesharpenin5531 agreed they are pricey. However they are two sided stones so technically not that more expensive than 2 dmts , also should last longer .
Is it important to increase the angle as yo move to the tip? I have been assuming that I needed to try to keep it the same. But yours look great and clearly the angle changes as the stroke releases.
im pretty sure the ultra sharp plates are courser than the dmt's - even though they have same grit rating, the micron sizes are a little different - dmt has their own grit rating but the ultra sharps follow the JIS - so even when they are completely broken in they will still be courser than the dmt counterparts - also i think ultra sharp also comes from china
So is the 600 now finishing like a 600? Sorry to ask tye question but for some reason I can't read all your reply to my last message. I click on it and my comment doesn't show up.. Thanks, Mike
@@michaelshults7675 It was close to the same as dmt. It is broken in now and seems close enough to 600 grit. But I can't really do a side by side comparison because my dmt 600 is pretty worn out at this point. With diamond plates if you want to you can just break them in with a random chunk of steel. Just keep going until it is cutting the way you want. My old dmt 325 cuts like it's 800 grit at this point.
I was thinking about those till some greenhorn who quit on trying to sharpen sold me an almost unused d8xx and d8x for nearly nothing given retail. Couldn't come soon enough, my coarse plates were dead and I was lifeboating on big old crystolons. The qc on the xx is not great imo, but the 8x is fine. They work but are so unprogressive in terms of feedback.
Hey Rough Rooster...I am a new subscriber. Your videos are excellent for us beginners. I have watched your oldest video first and have been working forward to your most recent video. I am looking forward to 2021 videos. I have already put your knowledge to use. In one video you mentioned keep away from company called NATURAL WHETSTONE company here in Arkansas, I had just ordered their Black Arkansas. You were right the stone compared to a DANS is o.k. but I also received a DANS Black and Translucent. DANS are much better stones no doubt. So I was getting ready order DMT diamond plates and saw your post on ULTRA SHARP. I ordered the 3 ultrasharp diamond plates. Thanks Gene Brown
Would you reccommend the 2200 grit stone for use with pocket knives? I just picked up the 600 and 1200. They cut great but seems like the blade isnt cutting as smoothly as it should. Or might that just be part of the break in? I used an old stone to break them in like you show in this video.
I'm happy with my 600 grit so far. Feels a bit more course than my DMT 600 grit. But it also hasn't seen near the use my dmt 600 has. Glad to see you back. Hope all is well. You're still my boy, Blue. On behalf of your favorite acquaintance, hope you have a great Thanksgiving, Brother.
