Is this the correct understanding of the puzzle? When you build it without the jack, there's a thin sliver of spaxe between three of the faces and the plastic cover... And the volume of that thin (but wide) region is exactly equal to the volume of the jack that goes inside? And once the jack is in, there's no gap at all between those three "exposed" faces that get covered by the other half of the box?

I love this idea but cant find a formal deadline! Are entries due at the end of february?

Way to over design a product that is now exponentially more expensive than it's more effective original, all to solve a problem that doesn't exist!

Loved this video! I've been a Graphic & Website designer for the last 8 years and now... I wanna switch to industrial design. But it seems like a lengthy process. Do I *need* a degree? I'm already good and sketching and conceptualizing. Any advice on how to make the switch?? Also, any chance we could see Kevin's portfolio or any similar work for inspiration.

This video randomly got suggested to me but I used to work in that same building.

the flipper doesn’t work, why not a thumb stud? it is a slow opener pick a more appropriate opening mechanism and that problem disappears. if it were me i would experiment with magnets because there’s only one knife maker using magnets and his knives are equally as weird but he gets a lot of attention and accolades because he is the only person who is using magnets and your design here looks like it has potential but i do not see a finished product here especially considering how many flipper knives there are on the market which actually function correctly and usually flipper knives and minis/micro knives all fit in the “budget” category. i know the production value is probably high and this design doesn’t appeal to knife people at all and i can find a better knife for $10 in 2025 like the ozark trail benchmade clone is $10 at walmart for instance and is superior to your knife…. so if you’re going to bring something like this you had better come correct or not at all.

As a designer from Virginia Beach who moved from Eastern Shore to NYC this is incredibly close to home (metaphorically and physically). Love the story, Kevin is very 757-esque. Love to see it!

Looks like a great knife for designers and a terrible design for people who use knives. If you have to pinch the bottom half of the handle while the top half moves with the blade, you've got yourself a totally impractical mechanism for one-handed mechanism. Eg Spyderco uses a simple hole: you put your thumbtip in and flick, while the whole handle is secure in your grip. Opens smoothly every time, and the handle is lightweight, grippy plastic scales rather than heavy, smooth metal.
