    Just got one , Andre and I love the look and feel. I can pull a cork with it and I like the way it locks, but I can't lock it when I pull down the spindle. It won't lock in place. What am I doing wrong?

    Good or, 'Güd' quality design is most often the result of observation and experience; you must first identify where design is missing or ill-conceived, then establish where and how design will be applied by interacting with the thing or observing someone else interacting with it. Blue collar has 'boots on the ground' designers should have 'hands on the design'. Form and function can only be determined through observation and experience. Take for example the Tesla Sciburr-Truk, It is very obvious this was designed by a team of people who had no prior experience with trucks as a daily driver, nor did they bother to gain any before producing what looks like a 7 year olds idea of what a cool truck might look like. Whereas something like the Rivian which includes a flashlight that is stored and charged within the driver's side door profile accesible via a 'push-pop' mechanism when the door is ajar, is obviously the result of an informed decision. Now the Rivian is not my favorite utility EV and has its own issues but, this feature and several other seemingly minor aspects of their design speaks of a team that is immersed in their design process. And honestly, this kind of design feature is the kind of thing that would make or break my decision to purchase one product over another. The decision to buy the old house I live in was in no small part affected by a particularly funky lighting fixture that I just really like the ascetics of.

    1:34 One-hundo P, I can't turn the sponge part of my brain off and I wouldn't want to. After watching Gary Hustwit's 'Helvetica' for the first time I spent a month being constantly distracted by random fonts and type-sets I would see throughout the day.

    When I first saw your design, I was curious how you would deal with maintaining a seal as the metal contracted with shaking. The tapered lid is a really clever solution!

    A drill press doesn't have the spindle bearing configuration of a mill. You should only load a drill press spindle axially.

    Yeah it's awesome. Idea for you for laptop case: have a standard shell in 1-3 sizes, but market with device-specific inner cushioning. This would be a pretty indestructible and very cool case.. bonus points for the version with the patina and lettering (your brand's text/model info) to match your inspiration ammo box. Wonder if it would have an optional strap?

    • @craighillcompany

      @@craighillcompanyfantastic! I do see a potential pitfall with that design though.. the more it looks like a legit ammo case, the greater the chance of campuses or airports being shut down - as much as that would be free marketing! Perhaps pertinent to put a cool logo on there too and/or clear lettering to show what the contents are, e.g 1xLAPTOP VER 16x1½" CRAIGHILL -- LC12345 I've subscribed and will happily place an order if you do launch these!

    This nonsense is what hurts my head so much. Why are we focusing so much on textures and lubrication reservoirs when you're creating a $94 product that is functionally significantly worse than a $5 caliper or ruler? I just don't understand how a startup can spend so much time and money on developing and advertising a product that they themselves don't even understand. It's absurd.

    • @hazzsin3579
      @hazzsin3579 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because it is made by a 'designer'. Not even an engineer, just a 'designer'. Their entire shtick is colours etc. Nothing actually practical or useful in the real world.

  • @Gwalchgwyn
    @Gwalchgwyn หลายเดือนก่อน

    Not a slide-rule and not a caliper, but a bit of both while functionally neither, but it looks cool and costs ten times as much as caliper? I think you focused on the wrong part of your design.

    • @LaughingOrange
      @LaughingOrange หลายเดือนก่อน

      Right, where is the 20th of a mm measurement? Even cheap calipers have that. You can't do that accurately on this product, but if you know how, you can easily get that accurate with the average set of calipers.

    So really, this is a very fancy sort of balisong. So, the blade sits inside the moving arm, and flips out in the opposite direction as the direction of spin for the handle it's nestled into. The hard part is having it sit centered when exposed, the secret to that is the spine of the blade nestles into the opposite handle, so when the blade comes out it's centered.

    very interesting! my mind instantly goes to some kind of knife, blade, brush, or anything other kind of tool that's preferably stored away when not in use. maybe even a heavy duty light that can be flipped around to protect the lens when not in use. cabinet door could maybe be done this way too! either way, it's unlike any other specific mechanism ive seen and is obviously useful in the right application, nice work!

    • @craighillcompany

    100% get a milling bit set or something, drill bits arent designed to be used for milling, and while wood is soft, it will still dull them really fast might even break them and launch a bit of metal towards you

    Cool little blade, use references to japanese kiridashi knives since the blade shape is very similar, anything connected to Japan and weapons gets extra traction on TH-cam.
