Keep in mind my diet was different because I was losing weight while I was there. But there are a ton of fresh fruits/veggies! Transportation was by bus and in extremely rural areas it was by motorcycle but you needed special permission to use one because of safety. I ended up leaving earlier than expected for other reasons but my cohort was like 3-4 weeks away from closing out their service which was devastating for them. I still get chills thinking about it. Imagine working hard and developing relationships for 2 years and then without notice being told you have a few hours to pack and get to the capital to leave. They didn’t have time to say goodbyes to everyone and celebrate finishing service.

It is different for every country. They all have their own guidelines for safety but it was a requirement to live with a host family for the first 6 months after you swear in and go to your site. After that if there was a house available PC came to evaluate the home and make sure it was safe to live in. ☺️ hope this helped!

Lost and Looking hi! I am definitely more minimalistic now that I’m back in the US. Everything I own I use. I have almost nothing in storage because why... ya know? This was a VERY nice house and I was fortunate to live in it.

Ani R Hi Ani! Going to law school was a thought I had back when I was in community college. I had actually decided to transfer to a four year school for something completely different and then learned about PC while I was there. PC is a huge 27 month long commitment. If you want to do it, I would suggest going before law school. If you finish service, there are scholarships and stuff you can receive to help pay for certain school. ☺️ I hope that helps!

Katie I did get asked what my level of Spanish was but they don’t test you during the interview so don’t stress on that. People of ALL levels of Spanish are accepted and learn the language in country. I had people in my group that had very little Spanish when they joined. Now they are all bilingual

Katie My country had a shared drive with a list of resources we could potentially reach out to, besides that I did my own research online and helped my school apply for different organizations. I also asked my district office for more books as well as my mayor of my town.

Mei Mackleer 李梅 hi, Yes! Absolutely my spanish improved TREMENDOUSLY during my time there! My favorite thing about the DR would have to be how loving the people are. Communities are so small that people spend a bunch of time together instead of on their phones
