On a recent visit to Glasgow I took the opportunity to update myself with the changes around what used to be a favourite bike run from Robroyston Hospital to Wallace's Well.I know they say "nothing is forever" but it seems that an important part of Scotland's heritage is being neglected by the powers that be in this instance. Whilst some effort has been made to tidy the site up since the 1950's...

Nice to see a photo of L eckethill St. I was born there in 1956 and in about 1960 as my parents got a new house in Eeasterhouse.
I recognise a lot of those streets - boy how they have changed in the past 40 years since l last walked them.
The wee pals are brilliant
Great place i served my apprenticeship at petershill road
This is my school apparently this was built in 1901
I was born at 9 Bedlay st on 1st August 1966 then moved onto the Red Rd flats in 1968. So many great memorys growing up. Sadly mum and dad are no longer here they would have loved these brilliant videos 💙
I was Born at home in cowliers road in 1966 my mum's parents Gran & Grandad stayed on keppocuill road if I've spelled wrong so sorry for the spelling lol.what time to be born wonderful childhood memories what ta waist of great history MPS ruined sprinburn look at it now aye soar & now horrible times to live in everything I know is gone it so sad😓
My old school hasn't change since 70s 80s
I was born at home at 36 Petershill Road Springburn in 1957. Not only does the place of my birth no longer exist but that section of Petershill Road doesn't exist either. There's a pathway instead. And in place of my house are a bunch of trees at the back end of the firestation which stands on the spot of the back courts where I used to play and run across to visit my granny in Auchentoshen Terrace. When I started primary school id Cross the road to Bedlay Street then walk across Paddios Park, the place I first kicked a football, The park no longer exists but is home to Petershill F.C. it was this team in their old stadium further up Petershill Road where I saw my first football match. At the other side of Paddios Park I turned left and there was my school. Hyde Park primary. Im surprised the building still stands. Practically everything about Springburn I remember from my toddler days is gone. My grandfather's Butcher shop on Springburn Road was knocked down to build a motorway and his house on Balgray Hill knocked down to build flats.old Springburn might be dead and gone but the memories live forever.
I see my old mail box in this one,had to go to court 'cause of that post box....not guilty of fishing out letters back in the 50's....wrong guy!.....chuckle
Just going through all your old vids from your walks Harry, nice memories my friend.....stay well...I'm doing well.....Campbell
It could only happen in Glasgow they in power went out their way to blitz springburn and many other parts of Glasgow good old labour these buildings should have been kept renovated Glasgow is still recovering to this day glaswegians have had a raw deal with housing

Lot of dialogue problems from the start of the vid, so I'll give this a miss, thanks.
Hiya John did u have older brother Tommy,a think you where in close down, and where are u now pal Alan Main
I don't know this place anymore, its dramatically changed since the early 60's
Do you have pictures of Galloway Street, the last street I lived in before my mother moved on after my father passed on.
Springburn will be springburn
It will never be what it was in my time. I posted this and other videos about 10/11 years back all covering what was left of Sprinburn at that time.I was at a loss to know where I was as so much of the town I knew in the 50's /60's had disappeared. I left in 1962 and never returned apart from short visits to visit family and started the filming around 2001.There's bound to be a lot more changes as I haven't been back for 3/4 years now.
I was broght up in Ayr st Springburn, born on Jan1 1961,I had a great time as a kid there,we where at 64 gable end top flat, wherenursery was and went there aswell, the loco works shut 62,so too young to see the trains, always remember the kerry hoot n the kerry Inn!and Mario's chip shop, lizzie mcfarlanes, mcnees chemist, sellyns and Tonys cafe Gourlay Street and,and oor ain wee shop Minnie and Willie durhams in Ayr st,a also went to school with Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream he stayed Palermo St,was year below me,n hung about wi me n ma pals now and again, was always busy place n loads a shops, great neighbours ma mum was a Gorbals girl n ma dad Maryhill, and they loved it aswell n misse it to,,we moved to Aberdeen in 74,is ma dad got job and house with it so decided to move,I was 13 at the time with ma brother and sister,,a miss Glasgow because is they say there's naebody like yer ain!anyhow Glad tae be a Springburn Boy,but its all gaun now,and that's a shame, still got cousins in Glasgow and we keep in touch, seen them few months ago, always good to c the Auld city, and hear the best patter you'll ever hear😁never forget Springburn and the people and ma pals magic times great memories🙂
Hiya I was born in ayr street 1965 it's good to look back it's a shame it's all changed now
Hiya john did u have older brother Tommy,a think u where next close down,n where are ye now pal
Yeah that's correct my older brother was called Tommy your wee story caught my eye as my mum worked in Santis chippy across from mcnees chemist
We moved to barmulloch I'm sure in 1969 great granny stayed in flemington street plus my other 2 grand parents you have a good memory
I meant to say Mario's chippy funny I was only 4 but do remember old springburn
Shocking Glasgow Council
Truly humble apologies, Andrew et al., if the following appears to be offensive: The introduction of (many illegal) immigrants being overwhelmingly welcomed to Dear Springburn, alongside the well-planned rot of Springburn by 'those of another ilk', has resulted in total defecation upon all the stalwart, erstwhile people who *worked hard* to build that once proud environment. Stay free. Rab 🍻 🎲 🌠
Is not changed a bit
I was born in Petershill road at home in 1957 . If they ever want to put a "Tam was born here" plaque up on the spot I was born theyll have to climb up the side of the fire station that's there now.
I seen a pic of my old birth place and it's the back end of the fire station. A tree now stands in the spot where I was born
I used to live op gate into cemetery. Changed a bit since those days.
I LIVED ACROSS THE ROAD FROM GATES ? 1975 ? WENT TO PETERSHILL RD PRIMARY ?? DURING SUMMER HOLS YOU STILL GOT YOUR DINNERTIME IN SCHOOL ?? BUT SCHOOLS WERE CLOSED ?? IT,S WORSE NOW
It's called Springburn Academy now.
*Wake up at the back, p!* The posting person has already given that information ... 🤔
Thank you , I did not know anything about Wallace’s Well .
Gripping stuff
Boring as fuck
The good old days when the Cairn was opened.
Noisy dug at start. Tx for posting.

Last time I visited my birthplace, Gourlay Street School was 'North Glasgow Psychiatric Services Centre'. Stay free.
i used to work in the boundry bar when i was 18 in 1969 love the picture
I was a part of the original lot of families who filled every house in Bishopmill Road , Bishopmill Place and the two houses on Ryehill Road whichwere considered part of the Bishopmill community. Naturally, no one knew anyone else but that soon changed and a Bishopmill Parent` Association was soon formed many events were soon organised. To this day, I could still tell yo the name of EVERY family in that smallcommunity. We lived at No 42.
James Barr. I can still remember 90% of the families that lived in ryeside road from the top at rye road all the way to the bottom at Wallacewell place. Also there was a guy I went to barmulloch primary with lived in the first house on the left of bishop mill road called Hanson (Alan), also a girl called wylie (lynn) stayed in the house on rye hill road on the corner of bishopmill place. Time goes by, and places change, but your memories never leave you.
@@martiboy367 An Alan Hinson lived in that house when I lived next door ! Their dog was called Frisky !
James Barr Could have been Hinson, it was 40yrs ago. Remember vaguely a dog, couldnt tell it’s name. Just remember him being a big lad.
@@martiboy367 Hello Martin. 40 years ago would suggest it was Alan Hinson but Frisky, although he reached 17 or 18, would have been long gone by then.
James Barr. hiya James, to give you an idea of dates and ages. I attended barmulloch primary between 73/74 until 80/81 (5-11) then moved upto Albert secondary from 80/81 until 84, leaving Albert ahead of my 16th birthday because of my birth date. I fell into the early leavers category. Was working by the august of 84.
We used to cycle from barmulloch out past the well during late 70s early 80s. The Wallace’s well granite stone was there then, all them houses are relatively new, as it was farm land all the way back to the old abandoned hospital site, which had been demolished for some time. Thank you for stirring up the memories
Aye Martin , it looks like you were reprising what we did in the '50's.I went back out there in 2013 and was quite pleased to see that the wall had been repaired and there was some attempt made to inform visitors about the history of the place including the monument . I notice too that Roger Griffith has posted a recent video which shows that my question about the Well being in somebody's garden hasn't yet quite materialised. I like to think that our contributions on here had something to do with the powers that be taking appropriate action.
rednoseh10 really enjoying reminiscing & retracing the auld days growin up watching your informative & highly enlightening videos. Keep up the good work. It’s with humorous pride that I can say growing up in what was known in my time (the 70s & 80s) as the posh end of barmulloch, was a great time with very fond memories.
Oh how barmulloch has changed. I was born and bred on ryeside road, moved away 30yrs ago. Where have the schools barmulloch primary & st Catherine’s gone and barmulloch college. I had a friend lived in ryebank road, the other end house to the row you live in.
Hi Martin, I left Ryebank Rd in 1962 but was a regular visitor back to no.14 until June 2013 when my mother passed away.I knew the names of quite a few of the folk who lived there over the years and a couple of my brothers would have know others,What was the name of your friend at the other end of the block? The place has changed quite a lot even since I did these videos but Ryebank Rd not so much.If you are interested St Catherines Primary is still down on Rye Road, Barmulloch Primary has been demolished and there's a new housing development at the back of our house (14 Ryebank) on the site of Barmulloch college;appropriately named COLLEGE LANDS or something similar. There was a lot of stuff on a site created by a former Albert student "Reminiscences of Oldspringburn" which I think is still "live" and somebody has started a group on Facebook where a lot of the stuff off the Oldspringburn has been imported.
rednoseh10 hiya, thanks for replying. My friends name was Connor, unfortunately succumbed to devilish ways, out of our control, sadly passed away in the late 80’s. I will check that site out, just got all nostalgic when I saw an old springburn video on TH-cam. I myself left barmulloch in 91, but returned regularly until my parents passed away 1995/2001 Thanks again for the memories. Kind regards Martin.
@@martiboy367 My family ( and every other family ) moved into Bishopmill Road when it was first completed. We were all strangers but, very soon, a Bishopmill Parent` Association was formed and many events were organised on a regular basis.Nearly seventy years later, I could still tell you the name of EVERY family on our Street (and the four families on Ryehill Road who formed part of the circle which constituted Bishopmill road /Place).
@@jamesbarr5170We moved into Ryebank RD in late 1950.One of my best pals was David Mc Nab whose family occupied No.10 Bishopmill Road. We were a bit before your time and we knew a heck of a lot of people in Barmulloch as we delivered the Evening Times and The Citizen all over Barmulloch in the '50's. Before that I was on the Scottish Farmers milk delivery round 5.30 am - 8.00am Mon -Fri and later finish on Sunday as we did a double run with the bakery. So knew even more folks.
@@rednoseh10 Not sure how you could have been BEFORE my time as we moved there on opening day, so to speak. I remember Davy McNab. Mackie,Simpson,Haggerty and McNab were 16-10 ! Coincidentally, I , too, delivered the Times and Citizen around 1960/61.
Wow, stomped that route between 1980-84, heading home to ryeside road, which is the prefabs over the back of the bowling club. Fond and mixed memories of the big Albert( secondary), how the old stobhill hospital has changed, so glad to see the old clock tower .
