Very good, but will you ever make a "Fromsoftware, forgive me..."?
Let me think.... I would make a video like that for two reasons. If Bloodborne ever comes on PC, I play it and don't like it, then I’ll ask for forgiveness, and the second reason is if I ever play a "souls-like" and end up liking it more than a "soulsborne." The guilt would be so big that I would land on my armored knees again, look up at the Sun, and this time say: "Fromsoftware, forgive me...."😂
This game sucks. It's boring and tedious. Spend hours just looking at door animations while running around looking for stupid keys.
Well, there is a mod, I think, that can remove the door animations. If you can't find it on Nexus, then search the Steam community for the way to remove the door animations. Maybe that might help you enjoy the game more....🤔
Don’t give up, skeleton!
I won't, kitten, thanks!

Good video
Thank you! I have been looking for someone to think critically about these games and not settle on the surface of the experience.
You're welcomed.
Arkham Asylum to me feels like a horror game, it has that dark atmosphere, something that the other games are missing.
Yes, I agree.
It is so hard to find these characteristics in woman in general these days… it’s ok to say we all know it.
Spanish Dracula 🧛
Spanish Dracula, what do you mean?
15:25 this is too true. I know your channel is not about RE, but the other classic REs are really worth it, if you like survival horror. Silent Hill is also very good and I think it is darker, especially the first one. I don't know if you've already played SH2 , but in my opinion (no spoilers) the remake becomes a completely different game and doesn't do justice to the original. oh and unfortunately in the remake of RE3 (no spoilers) everything you praised about Jill disappears, only in the remake, in the original she still has her kind attitude but knows how to take care of herself. This is more personal but I also don't like the face she has in RE3 remake. The model for Jill's face in RE1 is Julia Voth, as a curiosity.
I haven't played any of the Silent Hill although I would like to (these games are very hard to find these days, and the only one I can find in GOG is the fourth). The Resident Evil games I plan to continue playing, though. Right now I'm starting to explore the Zero prequel although I'm not too deep on that one yet to properly have any thoughts on it. If I were to make a video on that one, it would be next year, probably.... Now, about Jill in the RE 3 Remake I have heard some of the stuff you say although I haven't played the game myself to put together any particular opinion. However GOG recently released the original trilogy and considering how much I liked the style of this RE 1 Remake I would like to play more of those before jumping to the over the shoulder perspective. A question: Would you recommend the RE 2 and RE 4 remakes, or should I stick only to the originals? I ask because I have to plan well my time and monetary investments so that I can keep up with the channel content, you understand....
@@joseortizreflects RE0 could be much more enjoyable if it had a trunk, good luck. I haven't played RE4 remake so I can't comment. My personal recommendation is that you should play the originals first, since I think it is more satisfying to be playing and notice what things have changed from the original compared to the remake. RE2 is a decent remake, the biggest cut was that they removed the A-B scenarios from the original, resulting in "what if" scenarios and replayability, which they unfortunately cut in the remake. If you wanted to save money you could play on an emulator, if you don't have moral problems with that. There are also HD versions of the original trilogy made by fans, I repeat, if you don't have moral problems with emulating. If you don't like emulating, the easiest thing would be to buy them on GOG. The original trilogy + code veronica are very fun games if you like survival horror. Also, if you play the originals first you can save money while playing them, since there are 3 games that will take you time to finish, and obviously the remakes are much more expensive in comparison. If you play RE2 (1998) I recommend playing "Claire A" and "Leon B" since it is the canon route. oh and if you get to play RE3 and at some point RE3 remake, you will realize how much content they cut, transforming it into a game that has nothing to do with the original. I hope you play the originals.
@@Kirisu__Mafuyu I'll keep all of that in mind. I'll buy the GOG games first then because I don't like emulating unless the game is on public domain. Thanks for the reply, it was highly informative.👍 BTW, I already noticed that Zero has zero item boxes....🤨
@@joseortizreflects I don't know what they were thinking when they removed the trunk. good luck as the game can be quite frustrating at times.
Finally someone who sees it as a REMAKE instead of a REMASTERED.
Resident evil one remastered on 2002 to look stunning on your CRT TV! People who played in 2002 know it’s a remake. Problem is most didn’t play it until the remaster like 13 years later.
What a nice Halloween Special this is! Your video was spooky, fun, and even moving at times; you have a gift for merging emotions into a seamless result, good job! I had been considering playing this game sometime, but now you have really convinced me! 😉😵💫🎃🧟
I'm glad you appreciated it and may you have lots of fun playing the game.
Great video, JoseOrtizReflects, very well done and interesting and your comparative with older adventure games from Sierra was right on cue to demonstrate the difference between puzzle game types. I wish you a good Halloween season and continued success with your channel.
Thank you very much, and Happy Halloween to you as well!
By the way. Making this video led me to revisit older games that I hadn’t seen in many years. Would anyone want me to play some of these older games in a subseries within the channel, perhaps called “Retro Recommendations” or something like that? Because this Resident Evil video was basically that so, would you like me to explore older games and reflect on their pros and cons in the future? If you do, leave a Like and or write a reply. Thanks in advance and take care.
If making reviews and restrospective analyses of old video games is something you are interested in doing, I would love to see those videos, as it was through old PC games that I became interested in gaming and computers. Good luck in any decision you make!
Hey @joseortizreflects just so you know, these vitriolic comments that all of a sudden came are from A Plague Tale subreddit. Yup, someone shared this video and indirectly stirred them up to shit all over.
That explains a lot. Thanks for the info and for supporting the channel always.❤️❤️❤️
You are a massive weirdo for the sexualization bullshit. Stop projecting. The rest of the video also sucks
Hit a nerve there, I see....
Bait or bot? Cuz this is bs
Yes, Requiem is full of bs. The designers' obsession with showcasing Amicia's face every five seconds didn't help either. The first game was better because they gave her the dignity that comes with backstage, but alas dignity is a word people rarely think when writing female characters!
I'm sorry, but why the hell are you calling a fifteen year old sexy? And just because a woman looks at you, doesn't mean she's into you.
That's precisely what I criticize in the video.
@@joseortizreflects It's just weird how you came to that conclusion. It seems like projection. I don't see any sexualization of her at all.
@@joseortizreflects I just find it weird that you came to that conclusion. It feels like projection on your part. I don't understand how they're sexualizing her?
@@DorianJaekle To be honest, this is not my best video, hardly. However, you might like *this* other video more. It is a more balanced analysis on APT Requiem, exploring what I consider its greatest strengths and flaws. Watch it and let me know what you think. th-cam.com/video/5pKyCkrAPYY/w-d-xo.html
Well said Jose, Exellent video. I think other game companies should take a look at TLOU2 to see what you shouldn't do with their beloved characters.
I'm glad, and thankful, that you agree.🙂
Well, several months have passed.. What are your impressions on the new Hellblade?
I've been really busy lately with personal matters (why my uploads have been halted) but if things manage to get stable, I'll be able to put together a video I've been working for months now and *then* I'll get to work on Hellblade II. Hopefully I'll have my thoughts on it before the year is through. Wish me luck!
I hear what you're saying (kind of) but FWIW I thought Amicia was fine in Plague Tale Requiem. Think about how insanely bad and disgusting so many games are these days ... maybe my expectations are just super low now thanks to the nose-diving gaming industry but I thought Amicia, as a normal, wholesome French/European girl with good morals and a sincere love for family was a wonderful gift and am so thankful to Asobo Studios for creating her and the franchise. Long live studios making fun games with solid stories, zero degeneracy and likeable, wholesome main characters.
Totally agree, i've seen this shit too many times with female characters.
Ellie and Amicia both are good characters in their second games too..its just not your taste. Such a bad analyse..you are just trying to force your taste as good character writing.
I'm not forcing anything to anyone, I just made a video that was not to your taste.
This is a plutonium grade bad analysis lol. I honestly don’t even have the energy to tear it apart, just go watch other TH-camrs analyze these wonderful games to see where he’s wrong.
When it comes to story or character analysis there really is not a "right" or "wrong" opinion, just differing views. It is a shame, however, that you couldn't find any sort of satisfaction from my video because I made it with the best of intentions. I really like these games, and I really like these characters; I just wish the writers were more careful in making these sequels so there wouldn't be as much divisiveness between the fans. Peace.
I thought gooners hate Abby's characterization in LoU2, not Ellie's. Who the heck dislikes Ellie? Aside from homophobes, obviously. As for characters like Ellie and Amicia becoming ruthless killers grappling with their humanity, that's an essential development of their entire character arcs, their respective stories would lose most of their narrative heft if anti-heroism wasn't a factor in their struggles. And isn't Senua already a subversion? She's a protagonist struggling with literal mental illness.
First and foremost, Senua is not subverted in the first Hellblade. Subversion is when something is corrupted and Senua is not corrupt, she is just mentally ill. Her mental illness is this heroine's struggle, like having another character be blind or an amputee, and we wouldn't call these people corrupt, would we? After Senua struggles with the loss of Dillion and the traumatic memories of her mother's death and her father's abuse, she at the end comes to terms with her past, accepting that there is no magic (no Gods) that can change her past, or magic that can "heal" her, however *she* can be at peace with herself and try to make all the love and support that people like Dillion and Druth gave her be worth something in the end. By understanding herself better, and accepting herself, she can do better to others afterwards, thus becoming a more productive and fulfilled person in the years to come. Subverting Senua means subverting everything that I said and ending the second game with the character in a worst place than the one she starts in the first. Now, let's talk about Ellie! The problem with Ellie is not that she is gay because she was already gay in the first game and people loved her from the very beginning. She was also a fighter in the first game (and a better one, if I might add), than in the second. Ellie was subverted in the second game not because she is gay or a fighter (because she was both in the first game) but because they have her, simply said, be a jerk for the sake of it. In the original game Ellie was smarter, and even wiser, than she is portrayed in the second game. In the second game she is insecure, naive, self centered and basically fails every single character in the game in one regard or another. It is funny how people accept how Ellie couldn’t save Joel at the beginning of TLOU2 when she singlehandedly took down scores and scores of cannibals in the first game all to defend Joel. Taking about Joel, having Ellie hate Joel so deeply in the second game is ridiculous, and yet another deconstruction of her character. The Left Behind DLC puts Ellie's relationship with Joel in contrast with the one with Riley. With Riley we see all the mistakes that they did due to them being naïve, how they wasted years of relationship, how they foolishly distracts one another and without even realizing attract the horde of Runners that bit Ellie and killed Riley. This relationship (and all its mistakes) are put in contrast with Joel in the present, who depends on her to do things right and *this time*, Ellie does things right. She braves the mall by herself with both guile and courage, finding Joel the medicine, getting rid of the brigands that wanted to kill him and afterward stitching him all by herself. At the ending, when the game is swapping between the past and the present we see a desperate Ellie crying over Riley's shoulder and in the present we see a hardened Ellie firmly looking after her sick father. However, it turns out she didn't care for him as much as we thought and hoped for in the second game because she wanted to die and Joel didn't let her. Also it seems she didn't learn from her mistakes with Riley because in the second game she commits the same, exact mistake by smoking weed with Dina, have sex and oversleeps. Don't you see the deconstruction there, the subversion of her character? Riley died because she and Ellie got carried away and forgot to remain vigilant and Joel died because Ellie got doped, overslept so she couldn't reach him in time and then had her brains and her knees too weak to fight and think clearly. She has a gun in her hands, she sees Abby hitting Joel with a gulf club and instead of shooting her she walks right in so the rest of the gang can grab her. This is a direct and almost comical subversion of the character of the first game, who handled similar situations better when she was younger and less experienced. This doesn't stop here, however. She and Riley wasted their relationship in petty childishness, afterwards she wasted her relationship with Joel and the years of peace that he provided her because of her "messiah complex," and then she gets a third chance with Dina and their son and she wastes it because of a revenge trip she didn't even finish. Ellie, who was a good person in the first game, the person for whom Joel condemned the rest of humanity to save, was turned in a crappy daughter, crappy friend, crappy girlfriend and crappy step mother. So yes, Ellie was subverted severely in the second game and although people hate Abby because she is the one that technically killed Joel, people resent Ellie in that second game for many, many reasons. And Amicia.... I've spoken more than enough about Amicia, if you want to hear my thoughts on her there is a whole playlist that I’ve made for the APT games.
"Who the heck dislikes Ellie? Aside from homophobes, obviously" - with this, absolutely stupid and retarded statement, you persuaded me you're not worth discussing this with. When one so effortlessly and so quickly resorts to the "homophobe" card in any context (let alone this), they strip themselves of any credibility they may have had. Sorry, not sorry.
I couldn't stand Ellie in 2. The writing felt contrived and just out of character for lack of a better way of putting it. Even at the beginning the way she behaves and the decisions she made didn't feel in line with who she was shown to be by end of part 1. It felt like they completely threw out her more mature qualities and replaced them with those of hormonal teenager, problem being she's just entered her 20s going in 2 just for the sake of plot contrivances. While sure she wasn't a grown ass adult in a child's body maturity wise in part 1, she was considerably more so than she was in part 2.
Very true. Ellie was a more mature and overall more interesting character in the first game. (Note that for some reason that I do not understand yet, TH-cam is hiding some comments [like the one I am replying to now], so if you want to read them change the sort by option to "Newest.")
5:03 This has got to be a joke video right? There's no way you're serious... Do you see what's happening on screen? A little girl that's injured tries to fight a man twice her size and has more decades of experience fighting than she's been alive for and you're frustrated that you're not winning this scenario? She's delusional and angry, trapped in a corner like an animal. Go play God of War or Warhammer if you want a power fanstasy. You're so close to getting and you don't... of course she's a trouble maker. She's a littel girl thrust into a violent world where everyone wants to kill her and the only reason she and her little brother survived was because they ran away and killed first. Now that's a default she falls back to because she's blinded by the sudden change in the world and the rules she knew. Hugo was the causation of death and destruction anywhere he went, you really think there's gonna be a happy ending in a story where both him and his sister give into the anger and rage because they're just tired of runing? If you only want games with happy ending like you mentioned, you're in a world of hurt. Hellblade 2 will not live up to your expectations because historiaclly the first Icelanding settlements were the stuff of horrors.
Did you know that there are martial arts experts that could argue why Nadine could beat Nathan in a fight? Did you know that if you throw dust at the face of an opponent you will most likely blind him for a while? Amicia could have at least tried to do that and she didn't. This isn't about brute strength. Of course the Count could beat Amicia in a one on one fight, but she had something he didn't have, which is the element of surprise and she literally shouts at everyone so they can notice and attack her. And this isn't about trauma either, because there are plenty of traumatized characters that would have handled that situation better. The game is simply forcing the situation in order to mock the character but since they are obviously not going to kill her then nothing happens afterwards, so rather than have plot armor show itself they might as well avoided the entire scene and have Amicia find Hugo first and then together they arrive in time to see their mother dying. Besides, who ever said God of War was a power fantasy? Kratos had a miserable life. The fact that you can rip enemies limb by limb doesn't make the game a power fantasy. And lastly, I never asked for a happy ending in Hellblade II, all I ask is for the writers to treat the character of Senua with respect and allow her to maintain the essence that made her likeable and relatable in the first game. I am completely aware of the possibility that Senua might die in this game or in a third, but if she maintains her evolution then you'll be hearing me praise the game in this channel. Let's just pray the game is good so that all of us can be happy for once with our time and money invested.
5:30-5:45 unfortunately, a good chunk of the reason for all of this stems from people blindly jumping into the good old "OMG I CRIED SO MUCH WHAT A MASTERPIECE 😭😭😭" mode and never again leaving it. They desperately conflate game pulling emotional reactions out of their throat with good writing. Of course, I'm in no way saying that these two are always mutually exclusive, far from it. BUT, they are just as much, if not more removed from each other, particularly in this era where we are beset by all these "subvert expectations" tropes that simply yearn for "shocking" you in whatever way, rather than telling a compelling and well placed story. Many fell completely for the over-melodramatic ending chapters and got super-motivated to praise everything about the game, and what better nowadays to use for praising than the "oh but it's realistic" shit. Often such or similar arguments get joined with statements like "the game clearly explores Amicia's PTSD", but with all the problems of continuity between Innocence and Requiem, Amicia's PTSD was never a problem in the first game (at least not that much anyway). Some say "oh well, such mental changes happen over time" or whatever, but when such important things happen off-screen and we are just supposed to take their word for it, it's a sign of supremely bad writing in my book. There was no proper build-up to it, it just happens and we see it as Amicia's character's overall degradation; in fact, Requiem sorely lacked a proper build-up for A LOT of important plot-points that it introduced. Anyhow, fingers crossed for the upholding and preservation of Hellblade's established integrity and strengths.
It's sad that in recent years dramatic writing has been reduced to just shocking deaths and cringy melodrama. Requiem is the perfect example to that. Have a lot of pointless melodramas and push a tragic ending (even if it doesn't make sense) and you have the recipe of the modern masterpiece. Subversive writing is nothing new, but its misuse in recent years has diminished its values. When Ned Stark was beheaded in GOT that was a surprising and impactful moment, but afterwards we've had so many Neds getting beheaded that such a writing strategy has lost its effect. Well written stories that coherently expose their narrative without pushing gratuitous shock twists in a heavy handed manner are becoming rarer and rarer these days. See dramas like Schindler’s List. This one is a great example of a well written, polished story that depicts violence without it becoming gratuitous. The film also has a well written, polished script that successfully sets the differences between Schindler (the better man) and Amon Goeth (the worst). The film is great not because it is violent or because it has dramatic scenes and a beautiful score by John Williams, it is good because all of that is put together in a film that MAKES SENSE and successfully depicts the worst *and* best of humanity. That’s exactly the worst thing about modern story-telling, it often exalts the worst in people. Portraying Hugo's death as the salvation of humanity is the perfect example to that because Amicia kills her brother (the person that valued her and supported her the most) to save an already broken world filled with people that would slaughter her the first chance they get and the game wants to portray this act of fratricide as a heroic sacrifice instead. Story telling used to be better. It wasn't perfect (it's never been) but it was better and the main reason was because it had its values in check. Stories about evil people that do horrendous acts have existed since time began, the difference is that back in the days these stories and these characters were written and portrayed as evil people and the overarching moral of the story was that *we*, the readers, should never become that type of person; now, however, we get basically the opposite. Long ago, fratricide was treated like the horrible thing that it is. Great example: Cain and Abel and through Cain's bloodline came a string of corrupted descendants. Now however, we get Amicia and Hugo, and through the fratricide of one sibling to another we get the salvation of humanity (incredible!) The truth is that these evil acts are still evil, and through the "Requiem Amicia" (and others like her) we *will*, most certainly, get a string of dark descendants (shivers). If you reached the bottom of this reply then thank you for reading it and thank you for appreciating my work. As always, stay safe and have a great rest of your day and or night.
@@joseortizreflects You don't relate to understandalbe morals, that was proven with Luke Skywalker. Star Wars is a RARE, kurosawa ripoff franchise where the ultimate moral is mercy, but ONLY because of familial jingoism in Luke salvaging his FATHER. He would not spare a human being in general, only his own blood. The brutal tribalism that people go for, and RUIN good stories with, is amoral. Zorro was turned into Batman because Batman "is vengeance", and a surveillance authority that can do no wrong. You DESIRE a Big Brother figure like that. Luke considering killing Ben Solo is a perfect full circle of this, but people can't handle the idea that brutalism COULD backfire. Saving Vader because of a blood relation should in moral fairness reflect in keeping your offspring in check, and the only way to tell that story is the antithesis of mercy. If an old father can be spared, then a young son could be sacrificed, that's the flipside of this brutalism. South of jordan they now use Lavender AI that works JUST like Batman. That's what you get and pay for, because you CAN'T make the sacrifice of mercy at YOUR own cost, and your veteran sons are earning purple hearts as Kylo Ren.
Hey, I've got to say, I love your style! 👏👍 And for Hellblade II and Senua... 🤞
I will keep my fingers crossed. Thank you for the very well made video.
Great video. I completely agree with you. It’s sad to see the fruit of Arleen’s labour and passion sacrificed in the name of identity politics.
Rather than kill The Batman, Harley Quinn should have saved him in this game. By doing so she would have earned his respect, The Dark Knight telling her something like "You got smart, Harley, keep it up!" That would have been the perfect evolution to Harley's character in the Arkham series. After blindly falling for the Joker in Arkham Origins, then becoming his lapdog in "Asylum" and "City," and then helplessly seeking cheap replacements in "Knight," finally having her become her own person to the degree that she earns Batman's respect in the fifth Arkham game would have been the perfect evolution, considering that she was never regarded highly by The Dark Knight because she, truth be told, was never too smart. But no, they had her kill Batman and tarnish the legacy of both Kevin Conroy and Arleen Sorkin in one big blow.... (Sigh).... What a waste!
flash tells wonder woman that she'll have to kill them - game is trash but that plot point could stand if we want to have a impact so harley actually trying to save batman and in the end having to kill him after a bloody battle and tears in eyes with batman acknowledging that she can be more than joker's punching bag would be THE moment for her but no everything touched by woke turns to shit
This was a great video, and I am glad you are talking about this matter, because when I saw the videos and comments that other people were doing in the days after the Batman death scene, and I saw all the hate being vented into the formerly beloved character of Harley Quinn, I thought exactly the same things. And this goes beyond whether the Batman is really dead or not in that game, he may return, but the damage of making all of us see that scene has already been done. Once that has happened, it remains for us to see past the veil of lies that situations like these throw over us, and see beyond into our memories and hearts to find the true respect and love we hold for the actors and actresses that have been part of our lives since childhood. I remember Arleen Sorkin and have mourned her like I did Kevin Conroy, and no game like that is going to make me forget her acting, the character she gave life to, and her beloved legacy. Thank you for this video.
You are, of course, most welcomed.
Great character analysis for these 4 assassinos and how dare you play parting glass now I’m crying 😭
I'm glad you enjoyed it, and yes, I too cried with the Parting Glass. ☺️
An easy way for this game to fix the issues I had with Senua and Dillion's relationship would have been by adding a third collectible to the game. We had the hidden faces for Galena and the Lorestones for Druth, so the designers could have added a third collectible for Dillion. When you interact with this collectible you trigger different types of memories between Senua and Dillion separate from the ones we see in the main game, memories of them practicing sword fight or talking about their interests, stuff like that. Obviously, each collectible has to be related to the area in which you find it. For example, if you find the Dillion collectible respective to the swamp level then the memory should be related, up to a point, to the plague. Another thing is that the collectibles should appear after his character is introduced in the game. There could have been five of these and I would have been satisfied, considering the quality of the writing in this game.... The point is that by adding more interactions between the characters the writers would have fleshed out their relationship by exploring it outside of the contexts already seen in game and thus reducing the nagging sensations of one sidedness that I felt while playing the game. One of my favorite activities in the game was finding the Lorestones, because they are allusive to the story and expand Senua's friendship with Druth. It was nice imagining the two seating by the fire while Druth tells her his tales of the Northmen, so something similar could have been done with Dillion. Stuff like that would have made this video significantly different, because I would have focused the writing more on exploring the significance of those sequences rather than point out the lack thereof.
That is an awesome idea! It had never crossed my mind, but it would have been really good!
One other thing just popped to my mind this morning, and it pretty much builds-up the criticism I've made before on one of your other videos, about Requiem blatantly kicking Hugo down/relegating him to a mere plot device and making it all about Amicia's character's "development" and writer's own thematic preachings. So remember that scene on Sophia's boat at the end of chapter 13 (or 14) when they're about to leave La Cuna and Amicia gives this touching little speech to Hugo to console him? Quote - "...We will live. And we will heal... The scars? We keep them. So that we don't forget. So that we can accept... Until they don't hurt anymore". So basically, considering everything already said about this and what happened immediately after this speech in-game, you could easily change all the "we's" in her speech with "I's" and it would not make a difference (or rather, it'd expose what it's really about). It is SHE that will live (not him too). It is SHE that will heal (again, not him too). The scars? SHE keeps them (not him)... So that SHE doesn't forget (not him). So that SHE can accept (not him)... Until they don't hurt anymore (aaand again, not him)... Duh. Just duh. Now I feel THIS is one of the more blatant moments where the game went into full "It's all about Amicia, Hugo is now just a mere plot-polygon for her development" nonsense.
One of the many problems with Requiem is that Amicia feels too fictitious. Contrary to the first game, in which the character is more subtly written and as such ends up expressing more believable emotions, she, in the second game is all about the "obvious," and too little about that which is truly meaningful. Amicia looks devoted to Hugo on surface level, but when you look at Requiem's writing deeply, you will realize that the sister and brother story is barren this second time around because the game has shifted its real focus to *other* things. The way she looks and sounds in this second game doesn't help either, because she seems as if she is posing to a camera instead of genuinely interacting with her kid brother. That is the whole point of this video and the scene comparison that I make in it. The first game was better because it knew when to give Hugo the forefront and have Amicia take backseat for a while. Therefore, when we get to her "character moments" they are way more compelling, superiorly written and more believable than they are in the second game which is a "parade" of her "cringy character moments." The scene that you mentioned about "healing" and "moving on" would have actually been beautiful had Hugo survived the game, because Amicia's speech, in retrospective, falls flat when you think that she is going to be killing her brother a few hours later. Hugo's survival would have also made Beatrice's death mean something, because Beatrice's death, and the impact it had on her children and Lucas, is overshadowed two steps later when Hugo is killed and the focus shifts entirely on how Amicia will cope without him, the mother completely forgotten. In any case, thanks for the comment and have a great rest of your day and or night.
I dare say that a more perfect picture of love and comprehension does not exist, for the words you say are tempered with the reality of life and thus become the wisdom of the ages. The way you put your thoughts into words should be more recognized as there is infinite truth in the contents of your video. This is an ode to both the caregiver and sufferer, because one cannot exist without the other, and both should support themselves like two sides of the same coin, even more so when, like in the game, they are together by some type of bond of love. No other videos but yours have sparked in me the desire to see and play this sequel, for I really did not think it necessary, but you reflections give the game a meaning that should be heeded and a path that should be followed to have a satisfying game, and a possible conclusion to the story with a full arc in which the actions of all the chracters, good or bad, have at last, meaning in the sense that everyone played their parts and understoods their significance, and that goes both ways for all parties included. Like in your Druth video, congratulations should also be given to the fact that you could make a full video about a character that is seen so little in the whole game. There was also very appropriate and emotive use of the game's music, and Von Ziegler's beautiful pieces. Thank you for this heartfelt video of love and hope, for it has been very rewarding for me to watch it, and a privilege to comment.
Your words are well appreciated and I am so, so glad that you found meaning and hope in its content. Even if no one else watches it or approves with the things said within, the fact that *you* appreciated it makes the work of more than a year worth the effort. Thank you so much, and be well and safe....
What are your thoughts on the giant and the young celt? Do you think they are one and the same, or entirely different individuals? Do you think they are new characters, or old ones?
Are you hyped for Hellblade II? What is it about this game that excites you the most?
I have literally just finished playing "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag" for the first time in my life and the the first thing I did was to come here and reflect about it by seeing your video. I must say that you have made a very sound and beautiful video, entertaining and emotive, full of wisdom and hope. I agree with everything you say because it really is a terrible slight to both Ezio and Edward to compare them as the same character. Nothing could be further from the truth, as different morals can be learned from both characters, as well as from Altaïr and Connor, as you well explained in the video. This game reminded me of an Italo-German mini-series I saw many years ago about the life of St Augustine: "Restless Heart: The Confessions of Saint Augustine" (2010). Although plotwise they were very different, the life of an 18th century pirate, and the other an 430 AD Roman era orator turned Christian, story arc and moralwise they were very similar in the sense that the movie shows us a man who lives his life, to the fullest, makes many mistakes, and it is through the collective knowledge of his experiences good and bad, that in his middle age he baptizes himself a Christian, and changes his life for the better. And for the better I mean that he found purpose in his life to help right the wrongs of his times, some of which he had helped justify oratorically. His life was thereafter not blissful, but he had solace in the purpose he found through the Christian beliefs. To any interested, here is a TH-cam link: th-cam.com/video/5g_sjPhrPBo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=N-f8HaijECz8cOgt Edward Kenway is a protagonist that I started disliking because of his irresponsibility, but he slowly wins you over because, stubborn as he is, he manages to make the change in his life in time before his "ship irrevocably capsizes", and thus makes the sacrifices of everyone around him have meaning. In the end, I am glad that Edward Kenway was able to get his life in order, because not many people do it, either because they cannot see beyond their noses, or because other external situations do not allow them to do so. Thank you for your great video. It was an honor to watch it.
I am deeply touched by your comment, friend. I am also honored that you watched my video and glad you found so much meaning in it, because I put a lot of effort and heart into making it. Stay safe and be well. 💚💙❤
Thank you, I’m going to go watch this movie tonight and so true some people do not change because they can’t see it or external issues
I am glad you agree. That is what I liked most about Edward Kenway's story, that he managed to make the change in his life for the better. This video by "Jose Ortiz Reflects" makes a very thorough and emotive analysis and is one of the best I have seen. Hope you enjoy the movie and have a nice day or night.
A better combat but still grounded, that's waht I'm hoping for... (no combos, PLEASE!). And yeah, Senua should run faster, and climb too.
Imagine pressing attack button three times, the kick button four times and three more attack buttons so Senua does the "ultra spinning psychotic slashing kick!" Now *that* would be crazy!😮🤷♂️😁 Talking seriously, yes, it would be nice if Senua could run faster and jump.
😫😩😣😦 Noooooo!
I am also looking forward to this game later on in the year, and do hope that they get it right, and make a worthy sequel of the first one. Whatever happens, I know that your video has sparked further intrerest in me playing the game. Thank You.
I mean, when you look at it, Requiem really does unquestionably present itself as a story of two main characters (in this case Hugo and Amicia) being dealt a particularly horrible deal from the beginning, being forced to fight an absurdly uphill battle with more or less every tangible circumstance against them (aka a hopeless battle without the light at the end of the tunnel for them) and - surprise surprise: losing it, in an extremely hopeless, violent and, for all intents and purposes, tearjerking fashion; some would say, fate(?)... In all, it's so much... all of the above that in a way, it surpasses even any category of "tragic". And at the end of the day, what are we to take away from this? Acceptance? Of what? That life/world isn't fair and hopeless battles exist? I mean... Dude. We already know life isn't fair; I hope so, at least. Pointing that out, melodramatically, isn't avant-garde at all. We don't come to video games to learn that lesson. At least I don't. We come to them, like almost any other story, to help us transcend that bitter truth, that life often can be suffering and perpetual fight with unfairness and defeats, in one way or another. For me, Requiem (note: not necessarily Innocence), even though I respect it as an overall product, doesn't even work as a "cautionary tale" because the way it was written, there really doesn't appear to have been an *actual* way out for the protagonists at all. The "doomed from the start" trope basically. Whatever they did, it would have ended similarly, without actually ridding Hugo of the Macula (an option never presented in the first place). It's a rather common theme or subject of discussion how Amicia's obsession, grasping at straws and desperation throughout the game, but especially on La Cuna, are responsible for pushing Hugo over the edge. The supposedly flawed nature of her conduct is treated as one of the main causes of the whole mess. But I'd argue that her obsession and desperation were mere, and natural at that, consequences (and not causes), of the obscenely harsh circumstances the writers put them in. What happens in the end doesn't read to me as the ultimate result of their mistakes and character flaws, but simply the culmination of the hopeless nature of their circumstance, that were crafted by writers. One of the changes of narrative design that I don't really welcome, which Requiem introduced, is how it appears to have relegated Hugo, from a character that was, arguably, equally indispensable and essential to the story of Innocence and the identity of the overall game, to what amounts to a plot device; whereas Innocence *is* the story of Amicia AND Hugo and their developing relationship and iconic duology, Requiem appears to have done away with that, and instead appears as a game about Amicia and her trauma... and how life isn't fair and you should move on, but I digress. Hugo seems more to be serving as sort of a poligon for her character's development. For some even, what happens to him in the end reads as a lesson for Amicia, as a demonstration of just how wrong she was, but again, I can't take that seriously.
You just nailed the two biggest reasons why I didn't like this game. First the game forces a pessimistic story and conclusion (simply for kicks) and second, Hugo is relegated to "secondary character" position when the first game thrived on being the story of the *two* siblings and not just one. If you remove one of the siblings the story becomes pointless, and now that the boy is dead, I really am no longer invested on the story of Amicia by herself. Amicia used to be a character with so much merit and potential, a character that used to embody so well the burdens that elder siblings endure for the sake of their little ones. The Amicia of Innocence reminded me constantly of real life people that I have known, my elder sister amongst them; the Amicia of Requiem, however, does not, which further proves to me how false her characterization, in that second game, is. I often ask myself what the hell is wrong with writers when they are making sequels, and why is it that nowadays every single sequel wants to subvert expectations? This is so similar to what happened in "The Last of Us PART II," in which the writers subverted the expectations of their fans focusing instead on everything else except what truly matters in their story, which are Joel and Ellie. In any case, thank you for sharing your thoughts, and have a wonderful New Year.
@@joseortizreflects I would've given you heart if I could, but alas. My impression is that Innocence achieves more, or at the very least, as much with less, on the whole. It really felt... As a more fresh experience, in a way. Perhaps even uplifting for some. And one of the reasons for all that is, funnily enough, that it kind of didn't even really try that hard, unlike Requiem. It came exceedingly more organically. Innocence really felt as a properly tight AA, indie game that reached the heights it wasn't even destined to reach, while Requiem (probably rashly) abandoned this gritty, down-to-earth, tale, subtle approach that was hyper-focused on the main characters, their relationship, plot and less on the themes and messaging that often and easily can become overbearing and intrusive to the experience. Instead, with the increased budget and resources Asobo Studio had at their disposal, Requiem (almost proudly) threw out the window that neat premise and narrative design that was clearly working to perfection in Innocence, and attempted a much more typical and direct AAA blockbuster movie-game direction that aimed for grandiose and melodrama instead, with a lot of "walking segments" and so on. PRECISELY what Naughty Dog (their known role-models) is known for. It burdened itself with too much and in the end felt much more hamfisted and increasingly less subtle, especially in later chapters. For me personally, the more pessimistic plot certainly didn't help, but that's besides the point. They even got rid of the French accents, which further sets these games apart for me and makes them feel even less well-connected. The absolute annihilation of TLOU's legacy with that manure called TLOU2 needs no elaboration; it's a scandal without parallel in gaming history. I'm not going to compare Requiem to TLOU2 of course, it's nowhere near as outright disastrous as the latter, but some parallels are simply uncanny, considering Asobo's open fanboy-ish attitude towards Naughty Dog from the very beginning. Now to be fair, it's not that I feel Innocence is *superior* in EVERY SINGLE aspect of its writing, but overall? I find it considerably better and much more successful. It's not even a debate for me. Happy New Year to you as well!
Magnificent!
Black flag was always my fav. Love this analysis
I'm glad you did.
