I thought the one it is showing is for my monitor since on changing default device the name in the cmd didn't changed. Nevertheless I tried your step and got my headphones working

      Is there any chance you've run make & sudo make install on that system before with the same source code?? If so, try doing a "make clean" first.. This looks similar to when I had tried to re-use existing code after a kernel update.

      Wow, harsh choice of words on content that has resulted in helping dozens of people get the software working… while I appreciate constructive criticism, this comment doesn’t quite qualify due to your choice of words. This is an old video that I produced to quickly help me and others get past an issue we face when using VMware Workstation on Linux. My intention is solely to get past the issue. This channel is a hobby. If I were actually being paid for the content, I’d probably put a little extra effort and research into trying to provide more details about the WHY on each thing. For my purpose, and a majority of people that find this solution, the video suits its purpose. Perhaps this whole comment was put through a translator and that resulted in the phrasing… well, in any case; thanks for watching!

    Seems UTM has no concept of running the VM in the background and then connecting to the console. As soon as you start the VM on the macOS host, it starts the VM inside a window, and if you close that window, it kills the VM. The window is the running VM. Because of this, any remote viewing app like UTM Remote is doomed to fail - you can't have another app/window connect to the same session. So, the VM would need to be off in order for you to start it with UTM Remote before you can then connect to it. Once connected, you can't disconnect without killing the VM - so the advice is to shut it down gracefully when you are finished with it. Meanwhile, on the macOS host you are locked out of the VM. As it stands UTM Remote has no value. Even if it wasn't appallingly slow and unstable it would have no value. This is terrible. You thought was a UI problem, but it looks like it's worse than that, it's a platform design problem. It actually makes Hyper-V look really nice, and I despise Hyper-V. I think UTM is potentially a good way to spin up a macOS box for testing, but for literally anything else, Fusion or Parallels are the way to go. Given the whole VMware attacking their own customers thing, I'd lean towards Parallels. I don't trust Broadcom.

    I do gotta say I feel a bit uneasy installing random things of github. But you did say they'd fixed this in the past, Do you think VMware will fix this in the future as well or do they simply leave their Linux releases broken like this indefinitely? If not maybe I could just wait it out?

    • @DimensionQuest

      This has been an issue for many years now due to the speed at which the open source community releases kernel updates vs. a big commercial company releasing a product. I've seen this github referenced by "internal" teams when running into issues with getting VMware Workstation installed and working under Linux. This has been, and continues to be, a valid solution to our problem. I'm not part of engineering or even the team responsible for it so I have no "official" word on this one way or the other - just what I've witnessed and experienced. You could try posting in the official communities to see if there is any "official" response to this continuing problem.

    Update Note: Make sure to re-download the latest available code from the github repo linked. This is frequently required due to the kernel updates in Linux. In recent (as of this comment) builds of the kernel, I have had to do the following for VMware Workstation Pro 17.5.2: Pre-Req: Make sure you have the following packages installed first: elfutils-libelf-devel kernel-devel kernel-headers - Download latest code from github (17.5.1 is latest there and works with Workstation Pro 17.5.2) - cd into the folder - run: make && sudo make install NOTE: If the kernel update (OS Upgrade) results in issue recurring and you are Still running Workstation 17.5.2, you must first CLEAN in the code folder (ONLY if re-using your last download): - cd into existing folder - make clean && make && sudo make install Otherwise, you get some sort of mis-match error when attempting make install. Whenever that comes up, the instructions in the video have to be followed again... I haven't run workstation for a couple weeks. I just launched it today and got the same message as you, except I'm still running Fedora 39. Even though I'm also using Workstation Pro 17.5.2, the latest branch in the repo is workstation-17.5.1. As noted in other comments, that DOES work for me and others running VMware Workstation Pro 17.5.2. Since my kernel is now up to 6.8.11-200.vc39.x86_64, I had to simply re-run "make" and then "sudo make install" in the folder as per the instructions in this video. Now, my Workstation Pro 17.5.2 is once again launching without issue... until another kernel version or Workstation version breaks it ;) Good Luck!

      Well, good luck with it.. I should note that VMware Fusion Pro is now available FREE for personal use. So Wireguard + RDP or VNC would give secure remote access to VM(s) running on Fusion in a remote location. UTM was a so-so "free" option prior to Broadcom deciding to give Fusion Pro for free. If I were interested in emulation, I might consider further playing with UTM, but I don't have time for that kind of stuff.

    Yeaaahhh...this is NOT an "awesome video"... The fact that the thing VERY CLEARLY HAS A POWER BUTTON TO PRESS. To Turn off the vm, closing the window. Good lord. I would not EVER follow any "tech advice" from someone that very clearly *wanted to have a bad experience"...for whatever reason. "No obvious way to get out of this window"...and referring to the DISPLAY as the CONSOLE. Additionally, the basic understanding that it is NOT, lol, NOT "Screen sharing". I hope, seriously, no one follows your "tech expertise".

    • @aicarnie
      @aicarnie 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm confused by this comment. There is a button to power off the VM, therefore, the act of closing the console window should not power off the VM, but should close the console window. Since this is remote access, it is rightly referred to accessing the console. It has been this way since the beginning of Virtual Machine time. Regardless of the make of VM software you are running, the display of a virtual machine or application has been referred to as the console since the mid 1960s. If you look at current virtualisation software, the active VM window is referred to as the "VM Console", "Remote Console", "Web Console" "Virtual Machine Remote Console", etc. I would suggest to anyone reviewing this video and then the comments section, should not take advice from someone who is either a troll, or too inexperienced to comment on technology that he or she clearly does not understand.

      Woah, is English your second language or did you simply not pay attention to the video??? - DimensionQuest wasn't looking for a way to power off the VM, WTF are you even talking about? He wanted to get back the the list of VMs WITHOUT powering off the VM that had the console window showing - Why wouldn't he refer to Console? The console IS, and has been, the machine's display where you can see the Bios boot up and access the login screen and alternate screens as needed. Perhaps YOU need to take a step back and actually learn about Virtual Machines and the industry standard terminology and use cases associated with them before you comment on people's efforts to share their experience. Yeah, I clicked your name, saw your attempts at making some videos with UTM... seriously, you really shouldn't be casting stones.... In any case, @DimensionQuest - yet another nice video! Well done! • @DimensionQuest
      @DimensionQuest 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The machine you are trying to join to the domain - is it using your DC as the DNS server? If I'm not mistaken, I believe there are special DNS entries on DCs that are used for Active Directory/Domain activities. A simple 3rd party DNS server or hosts entry would not have the special records. Other than that, I recall another viewer discovering that there were some group policies that were preventing their attempts. Please let me know if you get this resolved and what the issue turned out to be. Good luck and thanks for watching!

    • @DimensionQuest
      @DimensionQuest 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello there @garrysingh4484 , thanks for visiting my channel and taking the time to comment. I've had a quick look over things and had my iPhone connected to a VM within a few minutes via local wireless network. I switched to my phone internet (roaming out of country) and connected that way too. The lag was terrible when not on wifi, maybe because I'm out of country. My first instinct was to say no to this request as it is not something I see myself using.. however, since the effort was minimal, I'll see if I can pull together a video on it. I'm out of country for a while so I don't have my regular setup with me so it could prove challenging to get this particular one going. I didn't see ANY documentation on this other than the release note announcement, so I see why you requested it. Since it may take a bit for me to get an actual video produced, here are notes of what I just did: Accessing a UTM Remote Server from outside your network would require that your provider allow inbound traffic, or some mildly advanced home/lab network wizardry (perhaps Wireguard VPN for example). Once you have a couple VMs available in UTM, just go to settings and enable the server. Require a password, it will auto-generate a 32 character password. In the "Welcome" screen, you will then see a "Server" tile. Click on that and when the window opens, you'll need to click the checkbox there that says "Enable UTM Server". The status bar of that new window will show the EXTERNAL IP address of your network as well as the Port that UTM is listening on. When Local, the IOS client auto-detects the running instance. After you have the UTM Remote client installed on your IOS device, try to connect via the local network or external IP/Port. You will then be given a series of prompts from UTM and the Client in order to establish trust. The IOS client must trust the fingerprint of the server address and provide the password specified on the server side. If you have a firewall running on your UTM server, you may also need to Allow/Trust the connection. After you connection has been trusted, verified, established, you are presented with a list of VMs available on the UTM server. I'm not a fan of the way they did this.... The VM I had already started on my Mac had an entry... when I tap on it in IOS Client, it just shows me some info... no obvious way to access the console. The other VM that was powered off has a little Play button I could tap (Triangle in a Circle). This actually started up the VM on the UTM server and gave me a console where I was then prompted to login to the Ubuntu VM UI that I had just powered on. I powered off BOTH VMs and refreshed the VM list on my iPhone. Both had the start button available now and both powered on and presented me with a console. Back on my Macbook pro, I was then unable to access the console. So, in summary, it seems you can only access the console from where it has been powered on.... This is certainly NOT ideal and hopefully NOT the intended behavior. Working with the iPhone 15 Pro Max in portrait mode is a bit of a challenge.... when you rotate to landscape, you get prompted to login again! I hope these lengthy comment helps you along!
