Actually I find it very ambitious to try to make Grossman's trilogy into the TV show (and a SyFy one). The books are, well, difficult to read. A lot is going on, timeline changes, characters changes. I actually read books first, then saw the show, and what struck me the most was that Fillory wasn't feeling "real". In books, it's impactful : seeing that your "escape from reality" is just another reality, magical, ridicolous sometimes, but not without pain, violence, consequences. I would say that books are making more sense overall, but still, TV show is quite ambitious neverthless.

I watched it on Lifetime. Even went to the Network premiere in LA. Netflix was smart to pick it up

The Magicians was an absolutely brutal but completely loving deconstruction of fantasy. It assumed you were in on the joke, and had already shipped the characters. It told you the stories were aware they were stories, and expected you to take them completely seriously. It was perfection.

After first 2 seasons they producers were like forced to follow some 'polliticaly correct' paths - gay scenes, black, queer...not a problem with that, but it was obviously pushed too much - and that damaged the storyline quality, making it unworthy to watch.

The show, like the characters themselves, is imperfect.

I actually always viewed Jane Chatwin as being one of the biggest antagonists.

You miss one rly important fact about Quentin's death: He saves the world with "minor mending". He's not the greatest magician, nor even close to the power of his closest friends and colleagues, but what he can do, what he excels at, is precisely and the only thing that is needed at the exact moment it is needed. This in itself justifies his sacrifice. As much as it hurt, I thought his death was one of the best and most powerful parts of the show. I only regret that the show didn't go on afterwards.

idk why somo people cant see the reason why they were willing to help lu and didnt hate her like they did with polo is because she didnt cause half the damage that polo did in 3 seasons. how he let samuel, nano, an his whole family suffer because the police belive it was nano. how he hurt ander by dragging him into his mess, how he betrayed guzman's trust AND kill his sister. for 3 season polo cause damage to everyone and didnt even care about it, he was so happy wanting to leave the country and let someone else pay for his crap. lu not only killed the source of pain, she did not lie, she did not cause more harm lime he did.

the biggest problem in this review and comments I see here is that people suppose that this is satire of blatant dictatorships. it's not. it's very ex-yugoslavia (after it broke up into smaller countries) type of authoritarian "democracy". see croatia in the 90ies, serbia in the... well, still. it's not hard dictatorship, it's "democracy" that is fuelled by nationalism. for me, this series hit home so hard, and i absolutely enjoyed it. for some things that people are saying don't make sense or are not fleshed out enough, oh boy, do i have news for you. all of these things happened in one way or another with the exact same level of being "fleshed out". i think this is just the topic and part of history that people don't know enough of, and are comparing it to wrong real-life countries/events.

The show gives Claire Foy so much Seasons 4 to 6 screentime, cameo appearances and awards, so far than she even appeared alongside Olivia Colman in the series finale. Vanessa Kirby deserved to have more screentime, cameo appearances and awards than Claire Foy, especially in the episode "Ritz"

The show lost the popular culture attention because they misinterpreted how most of society views and connects with Diana. Pretty sure the writers got a fantastic payoff and some privileges from the royal family/ charles for turning the last two seasons into PR for the modern royals

Hi. I liked this breakdown. For me, the issue with S4 is the main twist. It's been done before, so many times. Jekyll & Hyde obviously but many others (I won't spoil the movies I'm thinking of). Is it believable? Can I suspend disbelief? Not quite. But I can't say S5 won't right the ship. I will see it thru!

I loved this show while it was airing, watched every episode religiously. I just really enjoyed how they used magic and how the world was so different from most fantasy/magic in media. Also I really liked the characters, they seemed like real people with flaws and hang ups, trauma and messy relationships.

youtube literally fought me for this video. i've been searching for a deep dive of huntik but i only ever found like 10 minute videos of it i was really considering at this point making a video about it by myself. although i like everything about your video im still considering in doing a deep dive on every episode lol. but eh. anyways really high quality video! amazing research you did. i wish more people knew about huntik. and for any new fans; you can watch both huntik seasons for free on youtube in english french and german!

Problem number 1 you have an actress that is both not young and attractive enough and at the same time not old enough and destinguished enough ,instead we are left with a constantly crimacing Milf thats wearing far to much makeup. Secondly it sucked.

I love this show and really love this video, really opened up my eyes up to magicians themes.

Okay okay, maybe I've gone a little bit too far, but hear me out 😆😆. Huntik is, on a major scale, the reason for where I am today and who I am. Watching it as a child, awoke my interest in history and mythologies which later grew into me actually being a huge nerd on history and ancient culture, also exploring all sorts of myths and so on to the point that now when I travel around different countries, I make it as a goal for me to visit some locations that have been a part of Huntik and see how accurate they've been portrayed in the series. Like Prague with the Jewish cemetery and the Golem (I even bought a tiny figure that made the child in me super happy hihihi), the Basiliskenhaus (sorry if I misspelled it) in Vienna and it's crazy, it's like being in the series i liked as a child. It doesn't end here tho. My love for history and mythologies raised my interest in foreign cultures and languages and now I know 3 languages, trying to learn at least 3-4 more. And another aspect of my life that was strongly influenced by Huntik were the amulets. I simply loved them as a child and wanted to have some myself. That made me go to the souvenir shops everywhere I went, searching for some cool-looking necklace to wear. With time this interest of mine progressed into me non-stop wearing all and different sorts of jewellery like rings, bracelets and necklaces. It's become such a big part of me that I cannot go out without my items, but also people are very interested and amazed by some pieces that I have. So in conclusion I can say that if Huntik wasn't introduced to me when I was a child, I maybe would've been only 30% of what I am today. Maybe 7 of my top 10 traits that determine me wouldn't have been present
