Uggghhhh! Not Kissinger! Why?
You should all quit whining and pay attention to the good things he s trying to do
“I don’t how to make you happy dad.“ For that you’d have to talk to talk to Zoe or Liz”. What a cry for help in a relationship.
I like CJ's argument. Makes sense.
"I never voted for you" "That's nice, dear."
I loved the scene when the (Smits) admin comes on, and they were awestruck at the idea of being involved with the White House. I see the dump admin walking in like they own the place, dirty shoes on the furniture, and just generally pigs.
Interesting to hear Bill Clinton speak about the importance of the White House staff and the Cabinet. Should be a message that Donald Trump hears, but it would fall on deaf ears.
Names like Brinton, Garland, Granholm and Yellen might fall on deaf ears too. My point NOT being that all Biden officials are lousy, and not that all Trump officials were great; but that in each cabinet and among appointed officials, all presidents have had some bad apples.
I normally don’t make comments but listening to Jimmy Carter continue to make excuses is nauseating. If Carter had actually done what was right in 1979 we would have a lot less issues and problems. Absolutely one of the worst presidents in US history.
Almost everyone I know, and have heard speak, think J. Carter an honorable man that tried his very best for the country. That said, they always add that he just wasn't up to the job.
@ exactly right
Hasn’t been an accomplished president since “Point Break “..
Seeing how the White House is actually supposed to be run ( even by the entertainment industry’s understanding) is terrifying considering the incompetence of Trump.
"Now I'm having a good time." Charlie's mic drops are the best.
This is a F**k you to President Musk, sorry Trump!
All these until Donald Trump happened.
I read somewhere that CJ nearly falling was not scripted.
"A mix between a bull terrier, a Rottweiler, and a Fuller Brush salesman". 🤣🤣🤣
2:07 - Yes, but 8 US servicemen and 1 Iranian civilian(?) were killed during Operation Eagle Claw ( the failed mission to free the hostages). Just sayin'.... ☮
Henry Kissinger belongs in prison.
He's dead now. But yeah.
Poor Josh,no good bye kiss...
Poor CJ!!!
Interesting to hear a war criminal (Kissenger) use the phrase "moral convictions". Voted for some of these people, didn't vote for others, flat out disagree with what some of them stand for, but I would take anyone in this interview sequence over the psychotic megalomaniac idiot who will be our (can barely say it) 47th president.
When Presidents and leaders didn’t just tweet or X the day away.
Instead some had revolving door of prostitutes to the WH.
What I find hilarious is perhaps 10 15 years later someone will make a TV series that somewhat based on Trump administration, and invite a whole bunch of former WH employee talking about how they find Trump a visionary and inspiring statesman.
Don’t think it would sell.
I sincerely doubt that 😅 he's not even in office yet and he's already handed power over to Musk. He's incompetent at best, an overgrown toddler at worst.
I love that Gerald Ford said he was right to pardon Nixon. Absolutely nothing could be farther from the truth. He put the President above the law. He wasn't pardoning Nixon for an illegal act done to protect the country. No, Ford pardoned an individual who commited an act of corruption driven by personal ambition. That created a horrible precedent.
How things used to be. Now, the world is watching the dying days of American democracy after 50% of the voting public decided they prefer someone who will be a dictator from day one.
Just watched this episode
That was the music for ITV news in the UK.
Woah. Presidents are here. 😮😮😮😮
Kissinger, homicidal sociopath.
Listening to intelligent people talk about the highest position in the land, its importance and its overall significance is so reassuring. I miss those days. Hopefully we will see them again. In the meantime, I am holding my breath.
I 800000000000% miss those days. I don't pay attn to the shit show of politics anymore since this year. This show is still an ideal.
Listening to Kissinger is reassuring? These people are ghouls
Yeah we made a show that showed how we wished our government functioned and somehow managed to get basically none of it right in the world we actually live in lmao
The genuine love and esteem between Jed Bartlett and Charlie was/is quite touching.
How about THAT TRUMP~~! 💩He puts Russia fist then China
Yeah no the Nixon pardon was not the right thing to do
Exactly. It set the precedent that the potus is above the law. Consequences be damned…he should’ve been charged and face the courts.
In contrast with the Hunter Biden pardon, no apologies from those claiming eventually useful evidence as fake… Twitter banning the NY Post over its story.
Yes, errrmmm no. There were then - and there still are today - grounds for both views. I can see Ford’s point. Now, bearing in mind how Trump’s Jan 6 crimes were (not adequately) dealt with and after the disastrous immunity ruling, one would be inclined to say that Ford shouldn’t have pardoned Nixon. But then you still have to wonder whether Alito wouldn’t simply have pulled the same stunt on that precedent as he did with Roe.
Not to paraphrase Bartlet too much (though this is a West Wing video after all), but it is rare to have a moment when there is an absolute right and an absolute wrong - and the former usually involves a body count. Politics - especially national-level politics in one of the most influential countries in history, where decisions have an impact on a national and global level - inevitably involves making decisions in scenarios where there is no easy or right answer, by people who may be well-meaning but are far from perfect, based on the facts that they know to be true at the time. Those decisions may not always be the right ones, or bear the weight of history, but we shouldn't delude ourselves into thinking a decision like this is so simple so to be binary, or that it wasn't the right decision in the moment and made in good faith. Not everyone - indeed, increasingly few - in politics and public life are always driven by the best interests of others, but we shouldn't reduce complex decisions down to 'oh yeah that is objectively the right answer', especially with 50 years of hindsight. In this scenario, there is a case to be made that it was in the best interests of keeping the country together. It may not have been, and that is perfectly valid (and I personally would not have agreed at the time). But dumbing down what is - by any measure - a historically significant decision to a simple moral judgement of right or wrong just erodes the complexity of politics and nationhood. There are no right answers, only imperfect decisions by imperfect people - who we can but hope are well-meaning. And if they are not, well, that's on us too.
@@Jank1 You wrote a lot, and I actually did read it. Many won't. I would point out that history over time does have a way of deciding right and wrong and correcting misconceptions. Cultures and mores change so I dislike revisionist historians. For example slavery was accepted for centuries and done all over the world but now is considered immoral. it is now generally agreed upon that Columbus, although he did find the Americas and open it up to European exploration, is considered a bad and immoral person. (I remember in school wondering why Columbus was so great on one voyage he was brought back in chains. Now we know). More contentious and closer to today is whether Jackson was a good president. Many analogies are made with trump. He was a populist like trump. Even trump admires Jackson. But it is historically agreed that Jackson ruined the US economy. And history does have a way of repeating itself.
David Gergen gets my attention every time he speaks.
Charlie and Mrs. Bartlett. classic. i love it.
What the ever-living fuck is Kissenger doing in this video!? Guy never saw a Cambodian he didn't want to genocide, dunno why you think he belongs here.
Strange there is no mention of billionaire co-presidents. :) A nice reminder of why some people serve their country, and others idolize a cult of personality.
Who isn't even eligible to be president, constitutionally.
I agree but let's not get too nostalgic remember kissinger appears in this video
@hazmat7949 True. as soon as I heard his Baritone voice I knew that wasn't a good example of a professional reputable government leader/expert.
I. We need a Constitutional Amendment Requiring full disclosure of all pardons (National security exception) a minimum of 6 months in advance; that all victims & communities be advised w sufficient time to consider & comment; minimum pardons less than 6 months before term end... FORD: Ford's reasoning & vacillated excuses for pardoning Nixon was non-sensecal... He failed to require Nixon to acknowledge his "errors" or divulge what he new when he knew; apologize to the American people; or deny him to practice law... Nixon Even refused to admit his sins & law breaking to his Quaker congregation, which was required before would be allowed to return... Pres Carter was a facade (His administration was a disaster. A. He caused America & his Administration to be perceived weak: 1. Unilateral disarmament... 2. Caused harm felt to this day...3. Pardoning draft dodgers without more consideration & w/o apology to the Americans & Allies who served & to the families harmed, including of those los livest... The truth of those non-wars shames all Presidents!... for the millions of lives affected... (OUR ALLIES SHOULD HAVE LEARNED--STOPPED Pres. Bushes' illicit IRAQ INVASION!) ( During the Viet Nam War, there were times when more action & more deaths occurred in Korea than Viet Nam, never covered by the media... Where draft dodgers left us vulnerable). B. CARTER'S FACADE: From carrying his little go-bag whenever cameras were present (which his SecSecDetail said was empty) to 1. Micro-managing & decision making... Often ignoring competent advisors .... Harmed this Nation... Harms continued through today... a) Carter unilaterally gave away the Panama Canal... China mismanaged & failed to maintain the canal which handles 95% of our exports from our Western shore; which Harms, slows, boggles down & queues up trans-goods shipping; & increases costs--outbound & inbound... Causes distribution problems... b) Carter routinely over-rode experienced experts... such as dealing w' Iran before problems escalated; c) Carter's perceived weaknesses induced the Iranian-Embassy hostage taking... i) Carter over-rode & micro-managed Military plans to rescue the Iranian held diplomatic personnel... which cost American lives...ii) which caused Iran to disperse the hostages from their common, safer Embassy quarters--increasing risk & further endangering their lives... iii) making further rescue efforts impossible... >> Pres Carter's rehabilitated his history by broadening his facade. Examples: In lieu of working w' those rehabilitating abandoned apartment buildings, etc., (Like Bob Villa on This Old House)for new owners whose down payments were sweat equity by helping rehab worn-down housing for other "Sweat Equity" new owners while learning a trade or "how-to maintain & simple home repair"... The Carters' Homes for Humanity--Building a virtue windfall Chateau for a poor family who had no means or reserves or abilities to maintain a large estate, let alone pay insurance, property taxes, repair roofs, etc... FACADE! TRUMP: SHAMS & SHAMES !
The Nixon pardon was *wrong*. It didn't heal anything in the country. It only left us with the impression that a president can get away with anything. Fifty years later, we're still operating under that impression. If Nixon had been prosecuted, if he had faced justice, then maybe presidents today wouldn't feel like they could do whatever they wanted and get away with it.
Must have been tough interviewing somebody five times smarter than both of you put together.
Great vid
It's too bad the presidential election has been soiled so much.
It's because American politics has become more like a bad soap opera/reality TV series episode.
Ford was wrong and the ramifications are obvious today.
I like how this entire video is describing a good president as exactly what Trump isn't
Homie just lives in your heads rent free...you lost, stop crying
@@shalashaska9946 as opposed to when your people lost, and you lot committed felonies about it.

@@shalashaska9946 It's hardly rent free when a Trump presidency dictates a ton of things all around the world and not one single one of them for the better. Hope you're ready for four years of "we told you so"
@@shuttlecrossing7084 Dunno about you but my life was way better 2016-2020. Like in basically every way.

I know, right?! And the nerve to have a message about MORALITY??? Most definitely glitch in the software!
@@geocosmicvalentine It says everything about Aaron Sorkin and the other people.
How did that war criminal get in there?
Kissinger's inclusion in this is malfeasance.
A wonderful chance for me personally to be reminded that there were and are now people in powerful positions that STILL do the "right things".....and in my opinion "The Right Thing" comes down to doing what is morally correct as opposed as to "how one will be seen" after those decisions are made. Those men and women who think of their Nation and the responsibility to the citizens are not even wondering about the word "Legacy". I have very much enjoyed the Fan Base and The Creators of The Videos in here during my 2024. I understand this is fiction, if that guy was a professional driver, he'd know most of the people he's driving aren't interested in his opinion, much less interested in hearing it.
I loved his role in this series!!!
They should have done more with Wesley the Secret Service Agent. He made a great straightman for the jokes. Of course after Molly died, his appearance would have been tinged with worrow.
The two of them should have gotten together....
