    Dhand mainly rails against processed foods. You're right about high carbs, but they must be whole foods AND the fat content of the diet must be low. You can keep insulin and blood sugar under control by one of two ways: Low fat (< 10% of calories from fat) OR low carbs (< 100 g, maybe even < 50 g carbs per day). The former actually results in the body healing and after a few months you can add more fat. The latter is something you have to continue for life and most people find it very difficult. To me it's a no brainer, go for the low fat and after a few months you can start adding more fat to the diet. Name calling causes a knee jerk reaction in me, and I react by calling the name caller names. No excuse for it I know.

    Flaxseed oil is not inherently estrogenic, as it contains little to no lignans, the compounds in flaxseeds responsible for estrogen-like activity (phytoestrogens). Most lignans are removed during oil extraction. Additionally, flax oil does not contain cyanide because it doesn't contain the cyanogenic glycosides found in whole or ground flaxseed. If you believe the Omega-3 studies and want to get a few grams a day, then a small amount of flaxseed oil isn't estrogenic and does not contain cyanide. I'm not claiming flax oil is healthy. I'm just pointing out the omissions in your video.

    First of all his name is not Dr. Dee-hand.... It is Dr. Dhand, that's "Dan with a d at the end" Second, just about any Type 2 diabetic who can't use a glucometer to test their blood sugar and, using low-carb, and get their blood sugar down to normal has not done their homework. Anyone can start their homework on this issue by watching the videos on Beat Diabetes! with Dennis Pollock on TH-cam. Anyone who wants to deeply understand diabetes can read the following book = Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution: The Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars ....The book was created by an engineer-turned-endocrinologist named Richard K. Bernstein, MD. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1946. He was born on June 17, 1934 which makes him 90 years old and still doing well. He also has a youtube channel although he hasn't been posting lately. For a group of people with Type 1 who work with Dr. Bernstein's methods to attain normal blood sugars search Google for = Typeonegrit And here is Dr. Bernstein himself talking about Type 1 diabetes... but... the clincher is there are still things that apply to Type 2 in here. Watch this video = Dr. Richard K. Bernstein - 'Practical Tips to manage Type 1 Diabetes'

    From my understanding after hearing Dr. Brooke Goldner speak on this topic and Dr. Neal Barnard, and Dr. Kristi Funk, a well known breast cancer surgeon, phytoestrogen is not estrogen. It does not give you estrogen. It does not cause breast cancer or man boobs, none of that. Dr. Goldner explains that estrogens bind to the estrogen receptor very tightly and activate that receptor. Phytoestrogens on the other hand bind very weakly to the receptor and actually blocks estrogen from binding to the receptor so you get a net decrease of estrogen exposure and it's actually healthier for both men and women. They all agree that phytoestrogens are protective. Dr. Funk even prescribes flax and soy for breast cancer patients. Dr. Goldner gets extremely frustrated because most people do not understand the science on phytoestrogens. Surprisingly, in menopause when women's estrogen naturally decreases Dr. Goldner's patients do predominately great on flaxseeds, eliminating their menopausal symptoms. Although, she says on rare occasions a patient who is using more than 1/2 cup a day of flaxseeds on her protocol will feel worse because of the decreased estrogen so chia seeds work better for them. My seven year battle with chronic UTI's completely disappeared from day one of drinking Dr. Goldner's hyper-nourishing green smoothies with 1/4 cup of flaxseeds per blender. That was five years ago and I've never had one since. Kale, fruit, water, and flaxseeds for the win!

    Trouble I think is, that Dr Dhand see's all these fat sick overweight SAD people come into his Practice. These people all have severe metabolic disorders. Eat lots of meat and dairy and junkfood, don't exercise etc so when they eat some sugar their bodies just can't process it very well, and it causes all sorts of problems, for THEM. So he makes the erroneous leap that therefore carbs are bad because his metabolically sick patients who've been eating lots of fat and sugar (and often alcohol) together for decades in some cases, now can't handle them. So he falls into the typical low carb trap. These people just can't understand context. I work a physical job and am a cyclist. I eat a high carb diet and am in my 50's. My HbA1c is 4.5. So why don't I have diabetes or pre diabetes while eating all these carbs? That's right! Dietary context!!! Why can't Dr Dhand understand causes and symptoms and differentiate between the too? As a lay person(ok I have a Science degree but nothing special), why can I understand this and an otherwise smart guy like Dr Dhand can't? Just boggles my mind!!!!

    I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the "vitamin b17" hypothesis. Vitamin b17 being amygdalin. Yes it contains cyanide in it but the amounts found in natural foods are very low. You could never ingest a lethal dose eating only natural foods in their whole forms. Amygdalin is found in many fruit seeds, including apple seeds, apricot seeds, and cherry seeds (choke cherries, the ones the native americans ate, which have pits small enough to easily chew). It's in flax too. The idea is that while cyanide indeed can destroy a cell it comes into contact with, healthy cells actually have natural cyanide inhibitors to prevent this from happening. The only way for cyanide to destroy a cell then is for it to be repeatedly exposed to cyanide before it can regenerate its defenses, i.e., if concentrated cyanide is ingested in a sizable quantity. Now why would the cells in our bodies specifically have defenses for cyanide if we weren't expected to ingest some amounts of it? But here's the kicker. There's one type of cell in the human body that specifically DOESN'T produce defenses against cyanide and is immediately destroyed when coming into contact with it. These are called cancer cells. So the hypothesis is that ingesting bits of natural cyanide in our diet here and there via amygdalin essentially helps nip the germs of cancer in the bud before they can grow into something harmful. This would be the first discovered instance of a SUBTRACTIVE nutrient, a nutrient that inhibits over-growth, or excess growth, which is exactly what cancer is; growth for the sake of growth, a tumor. One of the biggest champions of amygdalin is a man named G. Edward Griffin. He's been promoting the consumption of amygdalin through apricot seeds since the 70s, writing the book "A World Without Cancer" at that time. I'm not a doctor like you Peter, maybe this is all pseudoscience that you can see right through, but as far as crackpot theories go this one at least doesn't really have much to sell people. You just chew up the seeds of the fruits you're likely already eating (eating whole apples including the core for instance) along with other foods that might happen to have some amygdalin in them in your regular diet (like flax). Another wrinkle in this story is that the author, Griffin, is living today at 93 and has a very active life with what seems to be a perfectly lucid mind. He's fairly active in right-wing conspiracy spaces doing exposes on banking institutions last I checked. He doesn't talk much about amygdalin these days though so maybe he just move from grift to grift. I don't know! I find the whole story interesting though so I wanted to share it.

    From Dr. John McDougall - Vegetable Fat as Medicine (2013) Flaxseed (as a whole seed) is one of the richest sources of alpha linolenic acid and is also a good source of soluble fiber. Consumption of 50g (1 2/3 ounces) of raw, ground flaxseeds has been shown to increase the amount of w-3 EFA in the blood and tissues and to lower the cholesterol by 9% and LDL “bad” cholesterol by 18% (Br J Nutr 69:443, 1993). Blood sugar was also decreased. Even though the benefits of EFA as oils on cancer growth are questionable, the lignans present in flaxseed seem to have an antitumor effect when fed at the early stages of cancer promotion (Nutr Cancer 26:159, 1996). Plant foods are the only source of phytoestrogens, like isoflavones, coumestans, and lignans, that are believed to be beneficial for many problems, including menopausal symptoms, osteoporosis, cancer, and heart disease (Annu Rev Nutr 17:353, 1997). Note: Dr. Ruth Heidrich also eats ground flaxseeds.

All the omega 3s we need are in lentils, beans, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, collars, no need to go to flax extreme...sign it with me! 🎤 I don't want to be a high fat phony! 🎤

      "May reduce blood pressure" is not an effect that is worth the potential side-effects. If someone has clinically high blood-pressure, there are far better treatments than feeding them flaxseed. So that flawed premise from the title "may reduce blood pressure = good" makes me immediately very skeptic of such a paper.

      @@imrevadasz1086 My elderly mother's blood pressure started to go up despite eating WFPB so we tried a number of things including a small finely chopped kale salad with some balsamic vinegar (per Dr. Esselstyn) before each lunch and dinner, a snack of chopped raw beets, some hibiscus tea, and amla powder in green smoothies. What really did the trick in lowering her blood pressure though was adding a shot of water with a few drops of nascent iodine before breakfast. Dr. Goldner was the inspiration for helping me figure out that she might be a bit deficient in iodine due to the daily kale salad protocol and her avoidance of iodized salt. She adds a bit of Celtic sea salt in her reverse osmosis drinking/cooking water to avoid mineral depletion but protect her kidneys. I felt so relieved when we figured it out, like we had finally cracked the code 😊 Cheers!

    Would it be possible to make video on Chia? Macdougall talked about fruits consumption and increased triglycerides in some people, does it mean that fruits are risk factor for atherosclerosis?

    • @imrevadasz1086
      @imrevadasz1086 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Dr McDougall sounded more like he was implying: It will make your blood values look a bit worse with the higher triglycerides, but it won't make a big difference. Dr McDougall was very explicitly saying that he doesn't think one could consistently eat too much sugar, and that sugar isn't going to be a significant contributor to body fat or other health issues, even if you try to consume a huge amount of refined sugar. If sugar doesn't contribute much to body fat, then it's also not going to add that much fat to your blood vessels. Sugar from fruits will raise triglycerides slightly, because of that small amount of conversion to fat, but it's not going to be bad. He just preferred people to eat starches mostly, because it's a much easier way to eat simply, and slightly lower triglycerides could be advantageous.
