    Normal price for fresh fish ranges between 45-70€/kg. However, if you choose to visit Mykonos or Santorini, expect EVERYTHING to be wildly overpriced (>3* normal price). Be prepared and always check prices BEFORE ordering!

    I dont understand this. We're going to Platanias in August, I'm looking at the videos and places on the internet and everywhere there is a menu with prices at the entrance. If I order the food, the ditch I see there, how could they cheat me with it? I mean, I'm paying for what I ordered is on the menu.

    My best tip is to ask ex-pats where to eat, not the hotel or locals !! Greece is Full of restaurant SCAMs, especially the fresh fish prices where they mislead you with tiny writing under the menu...the price is for 100 grams, not the whole fish. Also, they mass produce many dishes, freeze, then microwave.....horrible. Fresh seafood is the best choice. Beware of drinks scams as well. Insist on having bottles of wine or bear opened in front of you or you will be served something cheaper and of lower quality than you paid for. In general its best to drink as little alcohol as possible, and keep hold of your valuables including your wits!

    • @TassosKoidis
      @TassosKoidis 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      he/she is right. they mass buy/order from local fish markets and then they mass produce/cook for events like weddings, parties etc., when many dishes have to go out at the same time. flash freezing, slow defrosting and mass producing in a BBQ is not a bad practice, the fish tastes amazing (even if there is a taboo about it). BUT microwaving is a very bad practice. maybe they have other tricks and secrets that i don't know.. asking ex-pats is the best advice that i missed. thanks!

    I think this video is more helpful to avoid paying too much but doesn’t say very much about avoiding scams. The most important thing to do to avoid scams is check the bill. It’s not uncommon that they will add extra stuff if they can get away with it. Make sure to send away the bread if you don’t want it, so it’ll be easier to dispute when it appears on the bill. I’ve rarely had to deal with scams but I also rarely go to the touristy part of Greece. The time I did, they tried to add stuff to my bill. That’s the number one trick. Check the bill and confront them politely but firmly enough to give the message that you’re no fool.

    • @TassosKoidis
      @TassosKoidis 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      all good, fully agree; the only thing i am not with you is that you could not gain anything by return the bread; it is part of the "table service charge" (kouver, 1-3 euro per person); this is different than what you say, perhaps when they try to upsell you with specialty breads, olive dips etc. the bread is by default. this is my understanding, anyway!

    • @matttk
      @matttk 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It seems to depend on the place. I did, indeed, just encounter that yesterday, where they refused to take back the bread and charged me anyway for “bread”. I don’t see why they don’t be transparent and honest about it. In Italy, the bill always has couvert on it and you know that and know what it is. Greek restaurants should just write “couvert” and avoid the appearance of a scam. Although, again, some places do seem to take back the bread and remove it from the bill.

    • @singhabeers
      @singhabeers หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@matttkcover is illegal in Greece so don’t be shy to challenge it. Bread and bottled water should be charged if they’ve been ordered, that’s also the law in Greece. When you check the mandatory menu outside the restaurant, memorise the price of a few items and make sure the price remains the same on the menu they bring you at the table.

    • @matttk
      @matttk หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@singhabeers wow, that's interesting. Literally every single place in Nikiti does the bread thing. All of them without exception. For 3? 2:15 - Here is another rule from local people. If there is a person inviting you in, DO NOT GO. Damn that's embarassing. Get yourself to a restaurant that can fill seats without the need of the "town crier". 2:50 NEVER gamble by eating mussels. No. Value your vacations, eat stuff that are 100% safe. 5:51 What a tragic thing to say. The tourist went there to calm down and have a nice vacation, not to be "inspector Gadget" with the trickery of a tourist-trap restaurant. If that's our mentality here, then tourists will not visit that place again and good for them. I will agree with you that it is their fault that they went there in the first place. I am Greek and I wouldn't set foot on most of our islands because they do not really respect the visitor and view them as walking wallets. 6:18 Αν εξαιρέσεις το νοίκι, θα σου έλεγα τώρα αν πληρώνουν για καλύτερα υλικά ή καλύτερους και ακριβότερους υπαλλήλους, που τους έχουνε συνήθως να μένουν σε αποθήκες. 6:22 Δηλαδή επειδή αυτοί δεν γουστάρουν να εξελιχθούν και να έχουν τουρισμό όλο το χρόνο, θα πρέπει να ξηλωθεί ο τουρίστας τα διπλά; Και το λέμε και δεν ντρεπόμαστε; You are right though. There is a choice for every budget, which is why this year I am going to South France. I booked my flight in February so the whole round trip will cost me 150 euros. I will also be attending a convention so I got an amazing price for a one-week stay for a room there and it will cost me 18 euros per day. I pity those that will go to our islands and pay a sack of money to the tourist-traps.

    Is the butter meant to stay in contact with the water? Or should you leave an air pocket, or let one form when the bell isn’t full anymore?

      @TassosKoidis ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, indeed, it is no problem for the butter to be a bit wet. it creates a layer that prevent oxygen for jumping in and ruin things. but when it is not full, well, you are right; that's not ideal.. hopefully the cone space means that you will go through the last part of the butter relatively quickly,, but good points, Thanks!

    Doc, For a deep frying , we in Malaysia are more preferred palm oil. Its more stable in temperature and more cheaper comparable to other cooking oil. Its also more healthier.

    I use mine only from late October till early April...because I live in the desert. It's just perfect for my guilty pleasure of Irish butter.

      Irish butter is unmatched! I agree that if room temperature is over 23dC, the game changes , we can’t discuss for over the counter storage

    My butter spoils in the bell after a few wks. What am I doing wrong??

    • @TassosKoidis
      @TassosKoidis ปีที่แล้ว

      hmm.. spoiled as oxidised or mouldy? maybe the water sealing is not working well, maybe the butter was initially too old/not fresh.. try a different butter and a small butter bell.. dunno ,,, :-/
