I was trying to explain to my 5 year-old about the beauty of our freezing fog In Ohio just his morning. His major complaint was "But dada, it's cold, and that is not beautiful." He is my forever frozen child LOL.
@heathmix3204 How adorable!!! He's not completely wrong either 🤣 ~T
Looking at your water collection and the water around it shows that a roof over those containers would give you a substantial amount more if you needed it.
Because we are in a cold climate, we need to have the storage tanks open to absorb the heat from the sunshine. It helps keep the water from freezing over. The tanks are almost full with just the barn on the system. We are thinking we should have went bigger with the tanks lol!
You did great. Thanks for taking us along

Total pro job on the install. Glad you added extra bracing. The one thing I was concerned about is how well everything will hold up in the wind. How do you insure the solar array against wind damage?
@joeharwellauthor9317 Thank you. Well we are putting the arrays up to the test today…wind gusts up to 55 mph 😬🫣
@Benthitchfarm I understand. I line in Oklahoma where the wind comes sweeping down the plain.
@ you have more than just wind in Oklahoma!
Next year will be very busy for you two! Looking forward to the videos. I've heard Levi say I'm not a very good welder, I disagree the welds look professional! Happy Holidays and many blessings to y'all😊
@@erwinaddison2030 Thank you so much! Yes, this will be a very busy year for us!😊~L
Love the hug, lovely job done. Thank you for sharing your progress with us. Beautiful scenery with the frost, we are having a heat wave....🎉❤
@@bartbritz8078 Thank you so much! Send some heat our way please. 😊
I have been watching you guys build your solar arrays. I think your upright posts are a little weak in design. Mainly where all the stress from wind load may cause them to buckle at the bottom slider. I would seriously consider filling those posts with hydraulic cement to help stiffen them up. Similar to what they do to parking lot bollards.
@@michaelb9827 Thank you for the comment and for following along with the build. That is a great idea. I’m definitely going to figure out how to do that!~L
As with so many jobs by the DIYer just as you are finishing up your project and the learning curve has been "mastered" you have knocked all of the kinks out.... Well yeah NOW you are DONE. Maybe the two of you could go on the road and be professional solar installers...Just kidding. Stay home and finish your homestead. As always great work. Remember to stay safe and satay warm. MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Will you always use rain water or will you drill a well
We plan to always use rainwater. The wells here are very deep, the water isn't very good, and the cost is outrageous! We were quoted around $75,000!

Glad your rain is useful and your tanks are filling up. Sounds like another water project may be in the works to collect the overflow from the four tanks. @kayewilliams918 Thank you! 🫶🏼 ~T
Don't you just love it when a plan comes together. Where in the world did you get this idea? LOVE IT. Stay safe and warm.
@@Kudzu-Kid Yes Sir, I love it when a plan comes together! I started drafting the array last year on paper. Built a mock one on the floor in the barn to figure out the telescoping slides and the lengths they would need to be to keep the correct angles for summer and winter. Hardest part was steel supply companies don’t always have the sizes lying around. Had to go over the specs for each piece to make sure they would slid into one another before I ordered 21’ long pipes. Talk about stressing out lol
So I love watching things like this and especially how you were straight forward about the ups and downs of your experience. Another channel I watch, Ambition Strikes, did a huge home made array. They are both metal workers, but they also approach things like you folks do, check them out if you have a minute they do a lot of interesting stuff, and you all were a suggested video tired to one of their vids. Great work you two, nothing about what you guys are doing is easy, but you seem to have the heart to stay at it.
@@heathmix3204 Thank you so much. We don’t have a lot of experience working with metal but we love to build things, especially if it’s hard to do! Ambition Strikes is up here in North Idaho as well. I watched their build on the truck camper a long time ago but haven’t kept up with them lately. We know other TH-camrs from around here that have nothing but nice things to say about them! We very much appreciate you following along and the comment. ~L
@@Benthitchfarm Yes they are doing some very awesome things! I actually referred them to you folks regarding your water collection methods as they struggle with water on their homestead. You guys are great I thoroughly enjoy your channel.
@@heathmix3204 That’s awesome. Thank you so much! We really appreciate that. 😊
When you drill the holes in the panel frame's slide a piece of scrap metal between the glass and the frame. That way you won't hit the glass.
@@charlespost-v4w that’s a great idea! ~L
Great work guys! :)
Thank you so much! ☺️ ~T
The array is a piece of art! Perhaps on the next one you will tilt it up when adding the panels to make it more level and the top panel far lower to work on. Just say'n.
@roberta4989 Thank you! ☺️ That is a really great idea! ~T

@ShadowMoonFarms Thanks for joining us! 🫶🏼 ~T
great job as always ... question I was thinking about the snow, how deep does it get there ? and will it be a problem with the panels being so close to the ground?? well it be hard to adjust the panels if they get partly covered at the bottom 🤔 you know mom she 's just a wondering keep up the great work
@dorindazamora Thank you! The snow depth varies...definitely hoping we don't get enough snow to reach the lowest solar panels! 😂 Levi plans to use the snow blower if needed 😊 🫶🏼
Hooray for the array! Nice team work😄
Thank you 😊
Array rack looks great! Unistrut and related parts(nuts, clamps etc) are quitw expensive here in the Phoenix area. Were you able to beat the cost of a commercially built rack? I know some of the commercial clamps are very complicated and expensive, too. Hopefully the snow that slides off the array foesn't block the lower panels, like it happened to Mountain Beaches! Real guys don't need instructions, lol! Do you need to leave some space between panels for expansion when it gets warmer? Thanks for sharing!
Thank you. We did move the panels so there is a 1/4 inch gap for expansion. We also priced the commercial built arrays and they were 3 times as much! You know us, we like to build it ourselves, and if we can save a good amount of money, we aren’t afraid to take on any project! We will need to do snow maintenance around the panels, not only to clean them off, but also keep the snow from covering the lower panels in deep snow. ~L
Great work on the solar array. Much admire your dedication to accuracy of fitting. Wonderhow far away the background sound (road noise?) is. I imagine the wind direction and level of moisture in the air affects the transmission of the level of sound. Good to follow your endeavours 👍😁Phil 🇬🇧
@FIL357 Thank you! Yes, wind direction plays a huge role in whether or not we hear road noise. When we first toured this property, we didn't hear any, then the next time, we could. ~T
