Well, a far cry from the Mountain Mahogany I was thinking of, which is why I tuned in. Cercocarpus ledifolius was what I was expecting. It is heavy enough to sink in water, and hardness like Desert Ironwood. Got a bunch some years back. It was growing at 8500 feet just north of Las Vegas. I was wondering if it was even possible to split that stuff because of the hardness and the totally twisted grain. Not what you have, not even close.
You have definitely opened my eyes to a different species. I am thinking a term like mountain mahogany may be regionally used.
Hey Darin. Are you heading to the Firewood Frenzy this year in EauClaire Wisconsin?
I did not go this year. I have been traveling for work and the thought of another few nights in a hotel was just not in the cards.
@@woodruffwoodsmabe next year
Nice machine would have thought the Nylon on the conveyor padles would have been better under the angle iron to stop wear on the main trough so that it was replaceable when needed, nice video well done 👍
Thank you. That is a very interesting observation on the paddles. I never had given that a thought
I own the EXACT same truck. I ended up trying out the Lasfit LED's and my fog lights and high beams are amazing! But my low beams flicker and my DRL no longer work. Have you experienced these same issues?
I have not experienced that issue. My guess is that you may need a voltage regulator like this. amzn.to/4dKPAhG
@@woodruffwoods Thanks for that link! Do your daytime running lights (DRL) work with your LEDs?
Yes they do
Are those chainsaw safety pants? Why not keep that helmet on when in work/falling area? Bailey's nail best! Control tape rewind with fingers. If you cut 1000s and mark logs in woods you get very proficient with tape. Saves time. They are expensive and somewhat fragile.
I did change up my logger tape tension and the Bailey nail end. As for the pants, no I don’t wear protective pants. I find them very awkward and uncomfortable. I know I am in the minority but it is my decision.
Don't run away! Back step into escape route while looking for hazards above and ground. Hold saw as shield to potentially deflect. 60% of injuries are from falling objects. Most say "I never saw it coming! Work Safe!
Good point on looking toward the danger
Traveling a lot again?
Yeah it has been insane recently
Telescoping is the way to go. Both sides stabilize the implement regardless of the direction it wants to sway.
I agree! I have never looked back.
This needs to be less than a 5 min video. 10 minutes in and nothing yet about notches
Thank you for your feedback. Around 12 minutes I pull both cuts together for discussion
Gotta love those Honda V twins
Honda makes some of the best small engines.
Nice load of wood there. And even better, it's my kind of size for the Douglas Fir i deal with all the time. 😉👍
You definitely deal with big wood out where you are at.
Nice work! Did your tractor have a third function valve on it or did you plumb it from the rear remote up to the grapple bucket?
Plumbed from the rear remote. It isn’t ideal but it works.
I’ve been seeing a lot of people do that pretty good idea 👍
@@fatefarmspa yeah on a bigger tractor like that it is a really convenient way to do it
Darren, not bad at all for being by yourself some nice 👍 looking firewood and lumber 🪵 😮😊❤
A lot of work wasn’t captured by the camera as you can imagine!
Great video Darrin!! I've got a pecan tree blown down got to cut up cause its in a field and in the way of a farmer!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
Thanks David. I have never burned pecan but I imagine it would be very good firewood.
Congratulations Darrin on the huge White Oak score!! That will keep you busy for awhile.
It sure will! Great gift from Mother Nature
Darrin little logger trick , went buckin white oak once you warm up chainsaw chain good time to sharpen your chain . It’s a lot easier with a hand file . No problem great video Darrin .
My dad always said that a warm chain is easier to sharpen. Great advice and if you don’t mind I would like to share that in a video
Darrin white oak big $$$ for whiskey 🥃 and wine 🍷 barrels on today market. 😊 check out my logging buddy BJARNE BUTLER cut little timber down in BC Canada 🇨🇦. U tube channel BJARNE BUTLER. Check out EXTREME TRUCKING ON VANCOUVER ISLAND in the 70 . When iiiiii iiiii run the mtns Darrin .

What do you think of the Husky light bars? Been looking at a 24 but don't know anyone personally that runs them. Do they flex a lot like for bore cutting trees? Pat from northwest WI
Pat, I don’t find the flex in them to be an issue. I have another Sugi bar and love it. The ones that Timber Kutter Patriot runs are really good too but I can’t think of the name. The light bars are noticeable on the bigger saws. The 28 inch on the 592 made a pretty big difference with fatigue.
@@woodruffwoods Thanks 👍
Hey, brother Darrin. Oh man, those powersaws on the tailboard got me going. Some nice. When ya said you're going to feed the 592, some candy it made me feel proud.
That saw is a beast. In the one cut I had the rakers a little too aggressive so I changed chains for the cut on the stump. What a difference!!!
Awesome video Darin! Don’t like to see big old trees come down but when they do it’s a firewood frenzy!! Your going to get a lot of nice wood from that tree, hope your keeping most of it for yourself;) Stay Safe, Keep Cuttin!🪵🪵🪵🪵
That's the plan! With white oak, I am going to be greedy and fill my woodshed. I hate seeing these trees tumble as well but it happens and at least it is going to get used versus rotting on the ground.
Hey Darrin, just checking in. Making sure everything is going ok? We haven’t heard from you in a while. Hope all is well! Stay Safe, Keep Cuttin!🪵🪵🪵🪵
@@followthegrainfirewood4525 Thanks for checking in. I am just busy with my real job. I am hoping to release a new video soon. I have been recording just not editing.
Heck of a nice score! Between you and other PA channels, Sounds like the dot there doesn’t mess around.
You got that right! I am legal to 25,300 pounds in combination but I just don't want any hassle. It is absolutely ridiculous that they target pickups and dump trailers. The 26,000 pound rule has been around since the early 90's but let's face it, the trucks today can safely handle more than that.
Wow Darrin great video that is a nice white oak tree you have there will be some nice firewood when all proceed.
That is some premium firewood! I am anxious to see how many cord I get from that one tree.
@woodruffwoods I'm thinking about 2 cord if you use the whole tree it's 3 cord.
Hello Darin, The 592xp just loves big wood, love mine🤘🏻🪵🇺🇸
It is a very good cutting saw. A little on the heavy side but I don't really notice it when cutting.
🤢. Brother in-law took me to some march madness games in Syracuse. Went to an Irish pub to eat and ordered my one and only Guinness. Took a couple sips and couldn't give the rest away. Brush 🤢🤢🤬🤬 another reason to love the down dead ash woods. Working on field cleanup now. Lot to push w tractor and blade. That's a nice score, great idea pulling it over first. Shame it went down for no apparent reason. Darn high winds
I love Guinness but I understand that it isn't for everyone. It is very sad that this tree went down with the winds but at least it won't lay there and rot. White oak is among the best firewood.
Hey Darin! Great cutting today! Thanks for bringing us all along
Thanks for watching! I was just watching your video on your slab rack last night. Good stuff!
Thats gonna make a ton of great firewood and hopefully a good bit of lumber for ya!
White oak is about as good as you can get for firewood. I am looking forward to seeing how much it fills my woodshed.
Morning Darrin , that is a massive white oak . Glad you were able to get it . Going to make some fine firewood . Good to see you and give my best to Lovely Lisa and Dallas . 👍🏻🇺🇸🪵
It measured just about 40 inches and you are right that is some premium firewood.
Nice score! Lots of quality firewood there!!👍👍
I don't even mind the smell of white oak. The red oak smells like urine to me. This should come close to filling a bay in my woodshed.
Hello Mr. WoodRuff, That is a whole lot of prime hardwood, what little rot will not hurt your volume too much, I bet there are 100 bundles or so in that monster.
The rot was really isolated to that one branch. The rest of the tree was perfect. I estimate 3 cord from this tree and if I am correct that is 500 .75 cu feet bundles. However, I am going to be greedy with this tree and fill my personal supply.
Hello Darin! Good to see ya back “Outside” That was a great harvest on that blowdown White Oak. You should get a lot of splits out of that baby! Take care👊🏻
It is good to be making video again. I really do enjoy that and lately it has been very hard to find the time.
Hi Darrin. Great video. Very interesting little processor. What length firewood can that processor make? I hope that you and Lisa had a great Easter.
Thanks Chris. I think it will do 20 inches. AJ mentions it in his video on this unit but I don't exactly recall. We hope you had a happy Easter as well.
Great video Darrin. That's a beast.
It sure is! Works great on the right sized logs
$15,500 is the cost of the HWP-100tr H. Here’s a one cord run we did. Took just about an hour! th-cam.com/video/tspW9TVfta8/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
Thanks AJ
Awesome setup and great video.enjoy watching
Thanks bud! It is amazing how much time and effort goes into a video in between rain showers. 😂
I like my 1/6 of a cord bags. They work out great!!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
They are a really nice size to move around. Unlike the 1/3 cord bag, they don't seem to be as likely to tip over when moving them.
Nice wood shed.
Thank you. That was my Covid project and it has worked out really well.
Hey Darrin , the bags are nice but that Halverson is awesome . Thanks for sharing !! 👍🏻🇺🇸🪵
Yeah that thing is pretty slick. I liked running it and if you have wood that is reasonably sized there is no need to do re-splitting.
I do need to order me some firewood bags. Should be perfect for my subcompact. Not sure what to think of the process. Looks like have to have a tractor or skid to bring logs to it. Keep up the good work.
Those bags would be perfect for a sub compact. As for the processor, it does have a very capable log lift attached and I was able to lift 3 logs with it. I did make that pile with the tractor but when I was loading the processor, I just used a hookaroon.
Nice equipment.
It sure is. AJ does a good job of keeping up with what is available on the market.
Hello Darrin, Good job showing the bags and Equipment 🤘🏻🪵🇺🇸
Thanks Larry and Robin. I thought of you guys while I was operating this thing. I think you may have the controls down a bit better than me.
It’s nice having Shaver Equipment so close Darrin. AJ is a good guy and has some great equipment. I’m about to test the moisture in some Oak I split into one his large bags about 6 months ago. I like the 1/6 cord bags… I may have to try some.
Yes it is a blessing to have AJ so close by. He is a firewood nut like the rest of us. I like the 1/6 bags. I think there is an opportunity for them for smaller tractors and just how convenient it is to get the wood out of the bag.
Definitely looking forward to seeing the results!
The tractor did well, Darrin. Ya, I don't imagine Lisa wants a mouse for company 😅. That is a cool processor, like anything else, you get use to it. Good to see ya again, take care. Nice mention for Tom. His gravity fed wood process is cool.
She doesn't like bugs and mice and I hate snakes. So far I haven't had a snake in a bag but I am sure that day will come.
