I want to buy a home in Connecticut a first time home buyer I tired of NYC

Patheticut. Ive lived in this dump for almost 50 years and am finally leaving this year. Been wanting to leave for about 40 years but was tied down with family and work

Lots of good reasons to live here, I grew up in Connecticut. Close to NYC and Boston without having to put up with their nonsense, good Museums in Conn., great spots for family days: beaches, amusement parks and Beardsley Zoo, strong employment from boundaries to hi tech to medical, 8 Vineyards some with their own restaurants (you'd think you're in a French Chalet), 4 Race track's Lime Rock (with its movie stars), Waterford, Thompson Speedway, etc., 2 MiLB baseball teams, 2 AHL Hockey teams, national champs UCONN both Men and women and NCAA hockey champs Quinnipiac. Ivy League Yale University and other famous Colleges. At least 2 major airports with International flights, famous restaurants (Pizza capital of the USA!), and great history like First In Flight by Gustave Whitehead in Bridgeport Connecticut, 2 years before the Wright Brothers with monuments to his honor, Revolutionary war history, famous Charles Goodyear of the Goodyear tire and Rubber co., great State High Schools you have to qualify to get in, and you graduate with a State License in a Trade at 18 years old...shall I go on? Mild, not destructive weather...An NYC described Connecticut as a big beautiful park....

Waterbury and all other CT towns are horrible in every way. Many decades ago CT was nice. Not any more...

I've lived in wolcott since 1999 and bullshit on the taxes it's expensive. Pats is great thank you big Mike,,it's a mess here I can say that I'd rather live in bristol. As for all of the families the school systems great is indeed awesome.

NEVER,EVER get stuck in rush hour traffic. The absolute worst in the UDA. And if your GPS tries to detour you around it, you can count on 1 1/2 hours of crawling along at 2 miles per hour. How anyone can live is is a mystery.

Moved to Watertown CT two years ago it has started to grow on me I just wish it was more walkable.

I still definitely miss living in Connecticut. I was so much happier living there. I definitely and always loved New England and New York.

a major negative of Connecticut is corruption in government, which is rampant at the state and also at the local levels. And part of that problem is oversight of the police, which is approximately non-existent. Here in Connecticut, the police (both state and local) do whatever they want, and also they don't do whatever they want. The police are very bad in Connecticut. Overly aggressive, lawless, poorly trained, and nasty. Basically - the police work for the lawyers, the politicians, and the realtors. In some places, such as Westport, they also work for the "celebrity beautiful people". Both government corruption, and police misconduct are VERY major problems in Connecticut - at the state and local levels.

Prospect's a beautiful town, but the best shopping areas near it take about 30 minutes by car to reach. Expect to pay for gas.

One con, not much in Prospect in the way of shopping and dining. The closest options are often going to be in Cheshire, Southington, and Waterbury. The trade-off is, at night because there's not a lot of local light pollution, the sky is gorgeous to look at.

As a 69 year resident of Cheshire, you really swung and missed. First, you mentioned the three most expensive restaurants in town and ignored the several that are way more reasonably priced and have better food. Also, the picture you showed of the strawberry festival is a stock picture and not even of Cheshire. Plus you mentioned the prisons as if they are something to worry about. They aren't. How can you expect a bedroom town to have a big night life? None of them does. And you didn't even mention one of the biggest drawbacks, the traffic surrounding the high school.

Best decision I ever made was to leave Waterbury! First graduating class of West Side Middle, and graduated Holy Cross HS. Lived in Weston, Norwalk, Wtby on the southside, Town Plot, Prospect and New Britain before I finally escaped CT. Went to St. Francis for church and Boy Scouts. Videos about Waterbury and CT show up in my list here, always enjoyable and entertaining to see, every time it's worse than the last. Enjoy the blue, demoncrat, totalitarian, dystopian decline...while I enjoy God, guns and the Constitution. The biggest joke about CT is calling itself the Constitution State while denying CT serfs their 2A right.

Grew up there, Sprague school as a kid, Sacred Heart and then Wilby in high school. Miss the Italian food and my family, and the Fall foliage, but been out West for over 50 yrs, just like wide open spaces. But believe me, deep down I'll always love Waterbury.
