    • @rafaeloliva6425

Mr seasoned pro the explorer is not made in 43mm and above.
Are you so sure you survived?
My girlfriend wears DJ41 and Daytonas and she is petite.
36mm is and has been relegated to the unisex size.
40mm watche from Rolex are in much greater demand in general and even more so when looking the top tier sports models Sub 41mm released in 2020, GMT 2 are 40mm and the explorer 2 is 42mm.
There's a reason that you see Rolex models in greatest demand are all 40mm and above.

I felt the same way about it too, I'm 6'3" and it just wears too small as it is not a true 36 mm case. I ended up with 39 mm Mk II and consider the size to be perfect for me. Plus I prefer the matt dial of the 39 214270

Hmm, at least in the video, it looks like a good size on your wrist. Then again, I've noticed that photography/videography doesn't always accurately reflect a watch's size on the wrist. I own the 39mm 214270 with a 7.25" wrist and I love it, but there is always an adjustment when moving from +40mm watches.

    • @BrokeWatchFanatic

See it the same. Had this watch direct from AD and sold it after 4 weeks. It feels even smaller than the 14270 and 114270. But the 214270 and 22470 look too big in my opinion. Probably a true 37 or 38mm with 20mm wide bracelet would be perfect.

It would be good to be able to see into the future and see if the fad for ever-larger watches (hanging loosely from the wrist) fades out. For years men were happy to wear 34/35mm watches. The 36mm looks great on your wrist. IMHO the new 40mm always looks a bit odd because there is too much empty space on the dial.

First of all I think the 36 mm case size suits you well, but I’ll have to agree with you some sort of. I am a small gym dude 5 feet 7 inches and with 6.7 inches in wrist size. I bought the black OP36 a couple of weeks ago and I also feel that it looks a tad bit small when I’m looking how the watch is wearing on my wrist in front of the mirror compared to my 37 mm Black Bay 54 and Aqua Terra 38 mm. Although it has 20 mm lug widths and is just tapering down to 16 mm into the clasp. The BB54 and AT have way more wrist presence than the OP36,but when I’m looking on my wrist everything is fine and well proportioned. The 116000 OP36 back then had also a better wrist presence due to thicker/wider lugs which I preferred more than the current reference. I don’t know why they changed that. I didn’t have the chance yet to try the new Explorer36 on the wrist I only saw it in the windows, but it looked smaller compared to the OP36 just at a glance. Overall I’m happy with the OP36. The 41 mm OP and 40 mm Explorer on the other hand are out of proportion and in that size you don’t get the same classic vintage feel and look. It looks more like wearing a plate on the wrist with to much presence and destroying the quintessential of the watch. Doesn’t had the old reference the same dimensions as the current OP36 in terms of lug width and tapering?

    • @BrokeWatchFanatic
      @BrokeWatchFanatic  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thanks for that. If you're overall happy with the OP36, that's all that matters. I remember trying the DJ41 and like you said, it lost the charm of the classic feel of a 36mm. Maybe that's how I'll feel if I ever look into the 40mm Explorer, who knows. You have a nice collection it seems! The AT38 is forever living rent free in my head... I might have to do something about that lol

This watch is for discrete and functionality while being robust for daily use.. not for flashy or attention seeking. If you like wearing an f91, you would like the 36mm size.. however, if you prefer gshock, then the sub or royal oak style or pilot watch would be more suitable than a 40mm explorer..

As a person that owns this very watch. There are days I agree with your initial rant and there are days where I do love it overtime. I think that is why I plan to gift it to my better half someday. So when I miss it I can just borrow it from her. Video is well done and I agree with most of the comments, it doesn't look that small on your wrist (which is the same as mine) and actually looks great.

I own the same watch I love it, but yes after wearing other watches over 41/42mm it will feel small at first. For on my 7 inch wrist it fits and feels perfect. I’m 5,6’ so the size will not be noticeable. So I understand that this watch may not suit guys over 5,11’/6ft. Overall size from a distance does matter depending on the individual. It also depends on what you’re wearing. With just a t-shirt it could look small on some guys, but with a shirt cuff, sweater, or sport coat this looks perfect on anyone.I can wear just about any watch. 7 inch wrists are the ideal size for watch brands when designing cases. I can wear a IWC Big Pilot. It fits on wrist but from a far it look ridiculously large for my height. On wrists smaller than 6 1/2 this Explorer is perfect. 7 inches is pushing the limits, again depending if a guy is large or small. I will say this looks and feels almost spot on to the old 36mm Explorer. However this looks more like a slightly refined dressy version of the old 36mm. I mean it looks on you, but try the 39mm. You may like it more. For me the 40mm will work for those who want a large Explorer. The case design is well proportioned but next to a 41mm Sub it looks just as large.

People are just used to giant watches. When watches were actually “tools” they were “small” or midsized. Rarely did a watch go above 40mm diameter. A tool watch should be small and get out of the way as you wear it, not a big lumbering hunk of metal that’s going to bump into stuff.
Now that watches are more jewellery than tool (and maybe the obesity epidemic), watches have become large and shiny than ergonomically useful as “tools”.

The style over the course of the last 10 years or so has been for large oversized watches....36mm is the traditional size for a gents watch. In a few years the fashion will revert back to traditionally sized watches. Its a shame you feel that way about this historically important watch in the line up....each to their own.....

Really? Looks fine, but wears very small for a 36mm.

What are you smoking? This thing couldn’t fit your wrist better. The 40 would look massive on you.

There's a small but vocal minority asking for sub 39mm watches.... The sweet spot for MENS watches is 39-42mm..........

36mm watches are just too small for a avg built man , sick of the small watches being better propaganda everywhere on social media!

nah, 188cm 84kg, very built physique. 124270 fits me like a glove - in fact, I'm tempted to buy a 34mm 14000 air king. Love small watches, so elegant and sexy.

Here-here. I’d say even on my 7.2” wrist, the 39/40mm Explorer wears modestly. For me the 36 wears really dainty.

It wears too small n looks too dainty becoz of the silly narrow lugs of 19mm.and too aggressive bracelet taper to 16mm.
Prefer the 114270 for better fit and symmetry. .

That watch is not too small for you. But of you feel it is thats what matters. But its definitely not. Im 6"3 and 235lbs with 7.25" wrists and sold my 39mm Explorer 214270 to buy this back on 2021. Something about the 39mm and new 40mm look off or out of proportion to me. Where as the 36mm looks perfect to me. I also own the Explorer II black dial 42mm and that wears pretty large but is a nice contrast to the 36mm.

It does look perfect on my wrist when I wear it with long sleeves, but with a t-shirt, a different story. Perhaps you’re right about the 40mm looking out of proportion. Similar feeling I have is with the Datejust 41.
