Welcome to North a Camping & Outdoors' Channel. I camp & I film, that's what I do!
Hey, I am Dave, and my channel is called NORTH. Originally my channel was called, The Lazy Camper. I do enjoy the Great Outdoors (how great was that movie, man I miss John Candy) Anyways thanks for stopping by my channel. I make videos about camping, hiking, and kayaking. I don't take myself too seriously and I like to have a lot of fun in my videos. I hope you enjoy them.
My videos will be about all things camping. Canoe camping, kayak camping, car camping, backcountry camping and backpacking. I like to do a lot of paddling, bushcrafting, fishing, hiking and filming my adventures. I also love a good campfire, and I try my best to do some cooking on the campfire, or campfire cooking.

Surviving A Winter's Night In A Hot Tent | Solo Camping
First time camping in a hot tent. This was my first opportunity to try out my new hot tent and hot tent wood stove. I was a bit nervous at first and it was a lot of work but eventually I got used to it and it was quite enjoyable.
Thanks for watching, I always appreciate it.

Camping in the rain with just my tarp
มุมมอง 3.9K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
I was calling for rain the entire weekend but I was determined to do a little tarp camping, rain or shine. The hike in was nice. The rain was heavy at times but it did let up at points during the day. Thanks for watching, I always appreciate it. 3 Day Solo Canoe Camping on a River
มุมมอง 6644 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've always wanted to travel down the Mississippi River in Eastern Ontario. I drive over it and passed it several times each year. Well after doing some research I finally made the trip. Join me as I travel down the river and portage over some amazing rapids to a beautiful little campsite where I spend three days. Thanks for watching, I always appreciate it. WindBound on a Tiny Island | Solo Camping.
มุมมอง 5746 หลายเดือนก่อน
As I headed on on a three day canoe camping trip to a tiny little island in the middle of a big lake, I was pretty excited. The paddle in was good, the water was a bit rough but not too bad. On the second day the wind really picked up and that's when things got a bit dicey. Unfortunately I had to cut my trip short and left a day early. I was stuck on the island and I was windbound on a tiny isl...
Solo Backcountry Camping | Canoe Camping
มุมมอง 5287 หลายเดือนก่อน
I was able to get out for another camping trip. This time I packed the canoe and headed to a new lake. This was peak bug season but the bugs left me alone, I was shocked. It was a good trip. I had a nice paddle in, the site was beautiful. I was trying out a new hammock sleep system. I filmed the trip for the first half then I put the camera down and just enjoyed the rest of the trip, no filming...
Earliest Spring Solo Canoe Camping Trip Yet! Ice Out.

I have never been out on a canoe camping trip this early into spring. The ice was out and so was I. This was a fun trip, it was good to get out there again! Early Spring Solo Camping Trip
มุมมอง 8639 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is the earliest spring camping trip that I have ever been on. This was the end of March and all the snow was long gone. I hiked into a beautiful little spot right beside some rapids. There were many challenges on this trip, the wind picked up making things very difficult. This was also one of the more challenging trips to film with all the noise from the rushing water and the wind from the...
Solo Winter Hammock Camping
มุมมอง 2.2Kปีที่แล้ว
Up here in Eastern Ontario we have had a pretty mild winter so far. It is now January and most of the snow has melted. With no new snow on the way, I decided to get out and do a little winter camping anyways. It was great to get out into the great outdoors again but I did miss the fluffy white stuff. I travelled to an area that I scouted out in the fall but I had a difficult time picking a good...
SOLO Bikepacking | Bike Camping in the Fall.
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
So I finally made it out for a solo bikepacking trip. The weather was beautiful, if not too hot. The leaves were changing colour and the bike in to my campsite was fantastic. I really enjoy these bikepacking trips. I find bike camping quite peaceful plus the bike ride in is great for me. I normally bike camp in the beautiful Gatineau Park in Quebec but they are closed for renovations so the bes...
Solo Camping with Minimal Gear | Sleeping Under the Stars!

It was the super moon and the blue moon so I had to sleep out under the stars. No tent, No hammock, just sleeping under the stars. This was my minimal gear camping setup. I cooked up some delicious meals and enjoyed a beautiful campfire Thanks for watching, I always appreciate it. ALONE on an Island for 3 days.

I was able to spend three days alone on and island. I did a little camping, fishing, campfire cooking, swimming and running away from a swarm of bees! This was a fun trip. I paddled my canoe in and found a great little site. I was able to do a little bushcrafting and collect some firewood. It rained on my the last day but overall it was a great little trip. Solo Hammock Camping on an Island
มุมมอง 1.7Kปีที่แล้ว
So I finally got my campfire! And it was glorious! The weather improved, it was still hot but not as hot as the past few weeks. The smoke from the Wildfires is pretty much gone and the fire ban was lifted. I was headed to a nice little island campsite that I have never been to before so I was quite excited. The site did not disappoint. I decided to use the hammock setup this time and it worked ...
Canoe Camping Alone in the Canadian Wilderness
มุมมอง 812ปีที่แล้ว
I was determined to get out for a quick camping trip. We are in the middle of summer, it was way to hot to camp, there was a fire ban, it was bug season, and we had smoke from the Canadian Wild Fires, but I still went. It ended up being a good trip. I hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for checking out my TH-cam Channel. Thanks for watching, I always appreciate it. Dave NORTH Follow me on so...
Solo Canoe Camping | The Entire Lake to Myself.
มุมมอง 1.1Kปีที่แล้ว
This was my first canoe camping trip of the season. I was pumped for this trip. I had knee surgery four weeks prior to this trip and I was working out pretty hard to get back to normal. I was warned I should wait and I didn't listen to the signs, but at the end of the day it wasn't a perfect trip but I still had a good time. I had the entire lake to myself. Any day camping is a good day! Thanks...

Solo Canoe Camping in the Spring (on an island)
I'm 52 it nice to see some other follow campers trying new things. I'm not able to winter camp this winter but hopefully by April I'm out camping again. Nice video, thanks for sharing.
Great to see you back out. Looks like a sweet setup. Had our first good snow over here.
Great vid..hope u make more.
Well done you finally got a hot tent. Living in Canada and camping as much as you do a hot tent is a must. I have gone on some larger hot tent camping trips and they are a lot of fun. Most people think it's odd to get out in the freezing cold and go camping but I find something so zen about the whole thing. Your tent and stove look good. I noticed you used a cot, I havent tried that before makes me wonder if a cot is better than a air mattress? Thanks for the video and happy new year!
Great job with this video nice to see you back 😊
How did I miss the video. So well done Dave. I love the fall colors. Good on you for putting in all that hard work to make the trip happen!
Awesome job Dave, I love this kind of content. What is the tent and the stove?
Thanks Jake. It was a good experience. The hot tent is from Naturehike and the stove is from Deerfamy. I like both of them, they did a decent job.
Take a shot everytime he says its pretty warm in here.
Well it was warm in there. Cheers!
Did this last night. Same tent similar stove. I live in Saskatchewan. Only got 1 to 1.5 hours max out of a full stovebox. Dried birch is one of the best woods to burn.
I was fortunate enough to find some hardwood and it lasted a bit longer, but you are correct it's too small to go all night.
Cool video! Love the adventure. Subscribed
Thanks for posting another entertaining video. You may not be the greatest chef, but you're better than me! I've never done a "hot tent" camping, but your video is giving me some motivation to give it a try.
Thanks. You should give it a try, it's so much different than regular camping which is good and bad!
@@DavidNorthFilms Thanks. I might just do that some time. Sounds like fun, and unlike my other solo trips, I wont' have to deal with bugs! :)
Dave, just a few friendly tips: • using birch bark in your stove is fine. People do it all the time • "There's a rule with firewood: if you think you have enough, double it." • make some sort of platform under the stove so you don’t wake up to it sitting in a mud puddle in the morning • having a fire in the stove with one entire wall of the tent open is a) creating more work for yourself cutting firewood you otherwise wouldn’t have to b) wasting firewood you might need at 4am • when you do something good, like your one match fire, it’s ok to take a minute a relish your success. It’s a good confidence booster. That was very impressive😊 • your winter sleeping bags temperature rating (comfort, not survival rating) should be what you’d need if you didn’t have the stove. That’s kind of a survival tip too. Also, there is kind of a split decision on what to wear in your sleeping bags. I’m of the school of thought where I wear gym shorts and a t-shirt. Many others wear layers upon layers of clothing. I think that’s because their sleeping bag wouldn’t keep them warm enough otherwise • Kevin Callan aka KCHappyCamper has a great “Winter Camping 101” video that’s I’ve watched several times.
Wow thanks for all the advice. I appreciate it. I've watched Kevin video as well, it was very good.
Great video. I especially enjoyed the snow dance in the beginning…lol You have a wonderful sense of humor and a good upbeat attitude. I truly enjoy your videos. You always put a smile on my face. Looking forward to seeing your next adventure. Be well and Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Thanks Dennis, I always appreciate your comments!
Think you're going to need more wood if you want it to go all night.
Interesting video Dave...quite the little set up for sure!
Thanks Jason, this was quite new to me!
I never lie about my inexperience when it comes to camping. While i have improved on my camping skills over the past few years i am still learning new things. I have never tried hot tent camping...until today! It was a lot if work but also a lot of fun.
Fantastic tent! Have a nice weekend buddy
Hi Dave great to see you out doing some winter camping nice tent & stove , Yes you can use birch bark in the wood stove to start your fire, I see campers use it all the time , in their stoves.. Meals as always looked tasty . Is your sleeping pad insulated for winter camping ? that would keep ya warmer as would a hot water bottle in your sleeping bag. Give that a try and get some insulated outdoor camp slippers . Hope to see more videos enjoyed this , makes me want to go camping ... however I cant wait until Spring .. hope you had an awesome Christmas , hope the New Year is good to ya .. Ontario , Canada .
Thanks Sue, I appreciate the advice.
I'm about your same age and like solo camping. Your videos are really well done. Keep up the good work.
UM, UM, Good-Chipmunk tastes like Chicken…… Just saying…….🤔
Refreshing take on bike packing, love the humour
That's not a tarp, that's a marquee!
Thanks, once again for bringing us along. It's nice to see someone who isn't afraid to admit his mistakes and I just really enjoy your videos!
Making this vid with all the cuts looks like it must have been a lot of work. But it was peacefully enjoyable. And I daresay your kids will really appreciate having vids like this as they grow up and reach your age too.
Enjoyed the content! Sub'ed!!
oh man the wind really sucks while camping. I wouldn't take a chance with falling trees, get out of there!
Another great video David. I don't like to camp in the rain but you made it look enjoyable!
This. Is. Awesome. Thank you for sharing this. I was at CL this summer and really wanted to know what these campsites were like. I hiked along this trail but never saw the sites.
Love camping in the rain. Nice video.
Cool video
Maybe consider an A frame lower to the ground for better coverage? Either way a day outdoors even in the rain beats sitting inside watching TH-cam 😁 thanks for sharing your trip!

I was going to say the title should be, "Man in his 50s suffers in the pouring rain." but you looked quite comfortable out there. I have been out at the cabin in awful rain and i did not mind it but in a tarp is next level. Nice work my man! That cot looked good.
Breathing is off please get check out and start working out 🏋️♀️ wholesome advice! Great video loved the tarp so huge !Where did you purchase from?!
That is one hell of a tarp you have there. It's a pity that it doesn't have a couple of tie out points in the middle so you could tie it up & get a little more head room. The best thing about camping out in the rain is that there are less people about plus the sound of the rain on the tarp is so relaxing & soothing. Thanks for taking us along. I'd contact the backpack manufacturers to ask over adjusting it - they may have the answer. Just subscribed to your channel
Great camp . Personally i like camping in the rain with the different sounds and the woodland smells. What make of tarp is that? I’ve seen a few people use the silver reflectors and wondered if it makes a difference?
HOW can someone not give you a like 👍 putting yourself out there? i camped almost a whole year. oh it rained.. i liked it 😁
Now i remember why i have a tent.
“Rain or shine” 👍 when I get the chance to go out not much will stop me.
Rain makes for great camping 😀 You have one massive tarp my friend 😱
Nice camoing! Enjoyed it very much!
Great job my friend…. Nice setup for sure…👍🏻 Those GSI mugs definitely work great…‼️ Thanks for sharing and Stay Strong 💪🏻…👍🏻‼️
Just found this channel as I was out hammock camping wow you make great vids
Đi du lịch bụi thế này phải có lều chuyên dung mới được, còn chỉ tấm bạt thế này thì rất bất tiện không che được mưa lớn 😂😅
Bluntly, It's your backpack. I have Men's Trekking Backpack 70 L - MT100 EASYFIT Not too expensive but easy to fit and wear. Im not biased on my backpack and i know there's better ones out there. I just know this one is great for now.
Found your channel and love your content. Thanks for taking me along.
Another good one Dave. Any time in the woods is time well spent. See you on your next adventure. Have a great weekend!
You are a braver man than I sir, lol! Any time you can have a fire is the best! What happens if the rain direction changes in the middle of the night...do you just 'get wet'?
right on! Always great to camp in the rain! Lucky the mozzies didn't get ya!
Thanks Dave for your efforts. It is just great to be outdoors it is good for the mind
Good Solo overnight trip! I thought the bigger tarp was a good idea, like you said it helps keep more gear dry then relying on trees. I look forward to the next one!
