- I was able to get out for another camping trip. This time I packed the canoe and headed to a new lake. This was peak bug season but the bugs left me alone, I was shocked. It was a good trip. I had a nice paddle in, the site was beautiful. I was trying out a new hammock sleep system.
I filmed the trip for the first half then I put the camera down and just enjoyed the rest of the trip, no filming, just camping. I like to do that every now and then. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love filming out in the wilderness but sometimes it's nice to relax and just enjoy the moment without filming. Does that make sense!? All in all it was pretty good trip!

Love the opening it's like a movie trailer. I liked your hammock set up but I agree some people absolutely love using a hammock for camping and other people just hate it. Cheers.
Ha thanks Kelly, I love editing those openings, so much fun. I had high hopes for this hammock, especially for being alone and solo hammock camping. Oh well

Amazing buddy! I cant wait for next week when Im going out with the kayak and try my new Amok hammock for the first time. (Im a Hennessy hammocker usually) and you deff need a under quilt for the wind even if its summer :) See you in nature🌲

Time to hang up the hammock...see what I did there. Doing all this stuff at 50 is pretty good. I know younger guys who would struggle out there on their own. Collecting firewood in the blazing heat is not easy. Sorry about the broken rod, you absolutely have no luck when it comes to fishing!
Ya I still like the idea of hammock camping, I may try a lay flat hammock at some point. I don't like to make big deal about turning 50, I am still having fun out there, so it's all good! I agree with you, I have no luck with the fishing but I am going to keep going!
Ill be 40 in November. Hope I can camp well into my 50s and 60s
Ya I started solo camping late in life so here I am in my 50s😅 oh well it's still a blast, good luck to you, here's hoping you are camping til your 70s😅
Hey Dave nice set up i've never tried using a Hammock always a tent going to have to give it a go another beautiful area your camping at the lake . sucks about your fishing rod things can happen, your comments lol. I remember when you had a run in with those wasp nasty bugger's. Double blade i noticed more using. beautiful capture of the stars , for the hammock have you tried putting a closed cell foam pad in it along with your underquilt.?. why time flies Dave 4 years . Always enjoy and look forward to your videos .

Do you tie up the Pickle when you are on the island, couldn't tell? Congrats on 4 years!
It depends, I will always take the canoe out of the water overnight, but I should tie it up every single time. I have heard stories of the wind picking up and taking the canoe away...that would suck! The Pickle would never forgive me!

*** Pro Tip: get a spare set of blade pins and C clips from Agawa. There’s a little pocket on your Sheath for them. If you lose a pin or clip while changing blades, your saw is useless until you get home and replace the part you dropped 👍🏻
* Have you read Kevin Ride’s book about dehydrating foods for camping? It’s also full of his recipes…many of which he’s made on his YT channel
* when you turn 60 you can bring an electric chainsaw with you and when you turn 80 you can bring a log splitter too 🤣
I would love to get to Cheboygan, I would love to meet the Polka King! I do have a few extra bins for the saw. Awaga actually sends you a few extra with each blade, that company is great. I haven't heard of Kevin Ride, I will have to check out his book. Tell you what when I turn 80 I will consider the chainsaw! Thanks for watching.
Do you use a filter to get water from the lake or other water sources.
Yep, I use a gravity filter. I grab water from the lake and filter it at camp. It works pretty well.
