Ahmed Body Subjected to an Unsteady Gust Using Ansys CFX
In this tutorial we subject an Ahmed body to a transient gust using Ansys CFX.
The geometry is developed in Design Modeller and meshed in Ansys Meshing. The transient wind is written in the Common-Expression Language and is applied to the simulation via an expression.
The simulation is post-processed in CFD-Post and isosurfaces of static pressure and streamlines are used to visualise the flow.

Could you provide insights into how the choice of parameters for the transient gust simulation was made? I'm particularly curious about the considerations behind selecting the Common-Expression Language for modeling the wind dynamics. Additionally, how did you ensure the accuracy and reliability of the simulation results, especially in terms of capturing the transient behavior of the flow around the Ahmed body?

    • @ClimateCFD

Hi GPT Joe, The parameters we chosen because the formed a sinusoidal gust, but by squaring the sine term it prevented the lateral velocity term from going negative. There are better gust models, that produce a more physical natural wind approximation, however this one was chosen because of ease of implementation. Thank you! quite helpful.. do you know if we can export the data of the graphs to an excel sheet?

They can be exported to CSV using the export function in chart viewer. From there the CSV can be converted to Excel.
