On your big block setup would there be any advantage to stepping up to the 44 series?
Thanks for the comment. I haven't tested the 44 with the Big Block PowerPack, so I can't recommend it over the 40 series at this point. I do believe that as long as the drives are working as they should, and the gearing is optimized for the vehicle, you should have no problems with the 40 series clutches.

Been trying to find the brake bracket kit and does the big block power pack fit the j frame ??? And were can I find it.

With the clutch cams etc. mounted inward, the fixed side of the two sheaves are not aligned. I can see the spatial efficiency of this variation, but it leaves me wondering about belt wear when the sheaves are in the approximate 1:1 mode. I admire your innovation and the next-door neighbor tone of your videos--very well done!
Thank you for your comment, I appreciate that! About the sheave position, this is the best way to mount the 40 series clutches and maintains the best possible belt alignment through out the shift range and is per Comet's original installation advice. Please reach out with any questions!

I have a Tao quad I had small block on it took it off now want too go to big block and 40 series gear box but going to be a few months before I can get it I would like to be a tester for the power pack

Im interested in buying one of these in the near future. I do have one question though. The shaft on the transmission where the secondary clutch mounts, is there anything stopping me from installing a v belt drive to run a small single wire alternator for power if I fabricate a custom spacer at the end and my own alternator bracket? Im sure that if i could, then i could use the correct ID pulley, match it with the correct diameter keystock (modified if I had to) and weld them together flr security. My only question would be about any potential horizontal play on the shaft. Trying to figure out how to run a true alternator on a similar setup is driving me nuts. Im a diesel mechanic by trade, but these clutch setups are very new to me. Thank you in advance.
That is an amazing idea! I was just looking at it, and think you could totally do that! You could probably key it to the shaft right where the spacer normally goes. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
I don't think end play is going to be a problem, and think you could counteract side loading by running your alternator on the opposite side of the drive clutch to balance out belt tension loads.
@EcocycleVehicles it's going to be a little bit before my funds can justify buying this setup from you, but on the off chance you don't figure it out before me, I'll be sure to message you with further information on pulley size, key size, and the bracket i fabricate. Maybe it could be an option you could host on your site. Im sure you're well aware that one of the big drawbacks for using industrial engines like this is the charging system, and using something incredibly simple to wire in like a GM single wire alternator should be fairly simple, and will completely eliminate the issue of voltage restrictions for things like running lighting, winches, or even audio equipment on things like off road karts. I'm sure we could figure out how to make this work.
@EcocycleVehicles another thing about it, is while I have seen some setups for the predator 670 that drive the alternator from the flywheel side, this would allow you to retain your factory pull start so that you can still manually turn the engine over in the event of starter failure deep in the woods somewhere.

Hi, Thanks for watching! The best I can offer are the historic Comet part numbers# 203814A for the primary, and 217610A for the secondary. The clone clutch kits proliferating on Amazon and ebay for $50-75 are "usually" compatible.

It's all possible. How much gear reduction do you need?
@EcocycleVehicles a little bit of gear reduction, as well as to go from output chain size down to 420 chain. To have it all built into the power pack mount like your 212 deluxe would be great for my application as I can slide the whole power pack to tention the final drive chain.
The 40 series gearbox does have 2X reduction built in. Please give me a call and we can discuss your project. Cheers!

So, this is great and all, but I’m not seeing how you would mount this whole assembly to a mounting plate. Usually without a reverse gearbox you just mount the engine to the mounting plate and once you have the chain tensioned, you lock it down. On your bracket Im seeing vertical slots on the bottom. How does this mount to a horizontal plate?
Hi, Thanks for your question! You can mount the PowerPacks in various ways , if you wanted to surface mount it, you could use 4 tabs or angle Brackets welded to your existing engine plate. The PowerPack Brackets are slotted so you can adjust your final drive chain tension. Reach out if you have any questions!
Hi I’m in South Wales UK and bought a battered Tomberlin golf cart that I’m in the process of rebuilding. I’m in the process of converting it to right hand drive (sorry buddy but we sit on the other side to you ). It was electric but I’m hoping to install a 457cc engine with 40 series torque converter and 40 series gearbox both purchased from the USA. Please Please tell me that you can ship this to me because it looks awesome and would save me a great deal of work. I'm not sure it matters too much if the springs are right or left hand. One way the spring expands outward and the other direction it would tighten inwards. If the srings were designed to only be stressed in one direction then the clock direction would natually matter. As it only rotates 25% or so, I think I would risk it before spending the money for the other spring. I like your tool, I will be making one soon. :-)

Hey that's cool how you can swap springs for reverse roation. Maybe a spring scale would work to compare the rotational load, especially if you can adjust the preload!
Thanks, a spring scale would be cool. Adding pre-load to the secondary spring will keep the CVT in lower gear longer, helping to produce more torque at slower speeds. Good for technical trail riding or hilly terrain.

Love you videos, they’ve actually helped me a ton! So my son and I are building a John Deere 200, and we were looking to do a built predator 420 to torque converter to live axle. However we started looking at FNR options, and found you and your website. So my question is, if we ran the reverse gearbox, would we still run a torque converter. (Also, we are learning alllll of this as we go, so if my question seems stupid I apologize in advanced haha)
Thanks for that! I'm glad I'm helping. Yes, run the 40 series torque converter for the Big Block. 1" on the 420 Predator, and a 3/4" on the gearbox. Use a 203785 belt to tie them together.

Hi I saw on your website the "212" PowerPack Deluxe! With more reductions since I have the intention to build a trailer mouver with reverse need for slow speed 😊 I didn’t check the reduction on cvt system at lowest speed 😊
@Kebekwoodcraft7375 Another cool project for the PowerPack! OK, here it goes... You get 6.5:1 chain reduction with a 12T drive and 78T driven sprocket. That gets bumped up to 8.19:1 due to the internal gearbox reduction. If you use the jackshaft kit, 3X that! That would give you gear reduction of over 24 : 1 Your CVT will give you 2.63:1 on low gear, so you can achieve a ratio of 64:1!!!
