    why would you put clay on top of a french drain? the whole idea is that you WANT the water to flow to the drain. you should put DIRT over the top of the drain. then the water will make it through better. WITH the fabric, of course.

    For anyone wondering, woven fabric (like the kind for stopping weeds) is used for strength, and non-woven fabric is used for drainage. The thicker non-woven fabrics are used when the thinner ones would rip during use. If you're installing by hand and not finding that the cheap fabric is ripping, then you can use the cheap fabric. Even a cheap fabric is better than no fabric, though.

    In case you're wondering if this is true or not: your cities and roads are built using geotextile fabric. You don't need to be a doctor of engineering to learn this, it's a really early thing they teach, it's published in endless public articles, and you can see it when you drive by construction sites. The fabric is cheap to buy, it prevents expensive materials like gravel from mixing with worthless materials like native soil, and it extends the life of anything you build. You can google "civil engineering geotextile" to learn more.

    My family owns a $10M landscape and design company and everything he said about the fabric is correct. He just showed you why. It’s the better way to do it . If you choose not to that’s your prerogative but it will be prone to packing the stone which must stay clean for best results. He never said without fabric it wouldn’t work. It’s a difference of quality and life of the drain working well

    Please elaborate using the AOS from the TDS sheets provided by manufacturer. My market is mostly heavy clay and 4oz permits too many soil particles to pass through 4oz. 6oz or 8oz only for most of North Central Texas.

    I own a small septic business and currently have a Mytana cable machine. 1/2" by 75'. Yesterday we were at a new customers house trying to clear a blockage and the cable got tangled up so bad that I have to replace it. This is the second time this has happened. I have been researching a few different brands of cable machines and am very interested in your model 300 machine. It seems to have pretty good reviews. Just have to find a local dealer. Hopefully we will have better luck with a Spartan machine. Still deciding if I want the hollow core cable or the solid core.

The house is on a slope and I was only planning on putting the surface drains on the high side of the house. How many surface drains would you recommend for 40ft and would you recommend putting surface drains along the side of the house also ?

    Every soil is different .Just because you're saying no fabric is bad, don't make it true.. the first drain is flowing quickest and best.. the fabric in the two demos is already slowing the water from percolating into the ground, getting to the bottom of the container. I'm not sure 3 years from now that fabric wont be clogged. The water is sitting on top of the last two demos because of the fabric

    Can you just connect the catch basin to the french drain instead of using both solid and perforated pipe?

    • @lizardman1303
      @lizardman1303 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      From another video I watch the reason u have two different types of pipes is because the quality of the water . The French drain get the water that soaked on the surface and raised to the bottom is filter this way and is cleaner the reason why this is important is because it doesn’t clog the slits in the pipe if it’s clogged it will not work . The yard drain the surface water which is full of dirt and leaves it will u can flush this one out Also if u want to connect your gutter spout u want to connect it to the solid pipe since it could clog the French drain pipe

      Yeah, I appreciate the effort he did, but the soil and stone doesn't look compacted. Plus it's not a long term test. That first one had more clay coming through, but I suspect over time it will be just as clear while maintaining the much higher flow. That's the main issue is getting rid of water. I suspect the fabric would continue to work but slowly and may not meet expectations.

    i do not understand how water pushes up to the pipe. In a situation of a 10 foot retaining wall will the water have to back fill up to the French drain? I don't understand "fill from the bottom". Sure in a plastic container, where else could it go. So using a sealed plastic container, sure, it fills from the bottom. But with a 10 foot retaining wall the water should just keep going down until it back fills the depth of the retaining wall.

  • @ronroberts8036
    @ronroberts8036 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It is my understanding that any professionally engineered system will specify washed drain rock AND a fabric barrier. If fabric really became sealed, then all the retaining walls would be failing due to hydrostatic pressure. IMO fabric doesn't seal from clay. Water goes through clay. Otherwise the water would never even make it to the fabric.

    • @brianob1
      @brianob1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree, but I think it comes down to individual application as well. The fabric clearly slows the rate, if its clogged, it may still drain, but even slower. This may still eliminate pressure, do it's job, and prevent flooding. For me, I'm making one in my basement which will have concrete on top. I want to see it rain to confirm, but it looks like my clay holds water for a long time/well saturated, I think if I compact it and compact some base stone, pipe and more stone, it will drain fastest and not clog due to this hard clay not moving. My runs are fairly short about 23 ft one way and 13 from another I could jet wash too
