FRONT CAB VIEW – O-Train Light Rail Transit System, Eastbound on the Confederation Line (Part 1)
TRACKSIDE ADVENTURES
FRONT CAB VIEW of Ottawa’s O-Train Light Rail Transit System, eastbound on the Confederation Line from Tunney’s Pasture Station to Lees Station, including the underground section in downtown Ottawa. Part 2 will cover the easternmost stations from Lees Station to Blair Station. The Confederation Line currently has 13 stations.
The O-Train system has two lines, the electrically-operated Confederation Line (Line 1) and the diesel-operated Trillium Line (Line 2). Since May 2020, Stage 2 construction has temporarily shut down Line 2, with replacement bus service being offered at all stations. When Line 2 reopens in mid-2023, it will extend southward to Limebank station and incorporate five newly constructed stations, as well as an additional line (Line 4) linking Line 2 to Ottawa International Airport. By 2025, expansions along Line 1 and the construction of Line 3 stations in the west end are expected to be complete, bringing the system's length to 64.5 km (40.1 mi), four lines and 41 stations. The O-Train network is fully grade separated and does not have any level crossings with roads.

I suppose to an outsider this looks fun. Its not. Is one of the most mundane and boring jobs a person will ever have . pay is good and so is retirement. The rest of it sucks

    The Rock Mountaineer should have been "in the hole" awaiting the CN freight to roll by! Stopping, holding and starting a 141-car freight train is not the most efficient way to run a railroad! I know that Rocky pay a fee for a path on the host railroad, but freight pays the bills. All that aside, a great sight for railfans!!

    • @canadianrailroadadventures
      @canadianrailroadadventures ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I agree. I was told by Rocky Mountaineer personnel that they do pay a premium to CN to have priority over freight trains. CN even had a hi-rail truck run ahead of the Rocky Mountaineer for several miles on the Squamish Sub in the Anderson Lake/Seton Lake area. That stretch of rarely used track is prone to rock slides and track defects. The Rocky Mountaineer pays CN a lot of money to guarantee their daylight running schedule. Thanks for watching!

    CP Coast CP CO045 (San Jose area, Santa Clara, CA), we would come down off the main from the Coast Sub, get a signal, shove back up the line towards San Francisco (CalTrain section of track). Clear behind that signal and wait for the Coast Starlight to pass. Then saw back down to go back to our industry for spotting. Very common, doesn't matter if it's the rear end or head end, the signal will change after passing the IJ (Insulating Joint).

    • @canadianrailroadadventures
      @canadianrailroadadventures ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for subscribing! From what I could gather, the ruling grade west of Jasper is 0.7%. I'm not sure though if two locomotives would be sufficient to pull such a long train over that grade. Maybe someone else with more knowledge on this subject will provide more info. Also, there could very well be another DPU at the end of the train, for which I did not stay long enough at the station to see.
