I’m Surrounded by 2 Trains at Busy Junction, Local Job Switching Yard at Coteau Junction - October 1, 2021 (Part 1)
My favourite spot to railfan is at the VIA Rail train station in Les Coteaux, Québec. Shortly after our arrival, the local Valleyfield job arrived unexpectedly south of the train station on the CN Valleyfield Sub followed a few minutes later by VIA 24 (Ottawa-Montreal-Quebec City) entering the CN Kingston Sub from VIA Rail’s Alexandria Sub.
On this busy day, we saw 7 CN freight trains and 8 VIA Rail passenger trains in addition to the Coteau yard job switching around the station… all within the span of 6 hours! This is Part 1 of a multi-part series capturing the action on that sunny October day.

What's the 1st car on the Via train used for with the mostly blocked out windows?

It is Renaissance Baggage car number 7008 which entered into service in the summer of 2002. You can find more info here: corpo.viarail.ca/en/projects-infrastructure/train-fleet/renaissance-baggage-car. Thanks for watching!

@@canadianrailroadadventures I never knew the Ottawa-Montreal route had baggage service. Thought it was only Ottawa-Toronto.

@@vintagesupermarkets5210 It is most likely because that train is on the Ottawa-Montreal-Quebec City route and continues to Quebec City after a brief stop in Montreal.
