Parenting Teens: How to deal with your disrespectful teenager
Okay, you feel like you can’t deal with your teen’s disrespect anymore. You asked them to do something simple and they act like you’re asking the world of them….they either roll their eyes and say “fine”, or stomp off to their room and slam their door, or yell and scream at you to stop nagging them.
Teen’s are disrespectful for a couple reasons.
The first reason for teenage disrespect is because we have not established clear boundaries for them. Meaning, if you always gave into what your child wanted when they were younger or are still giving in to what they want now, then you’ve solidified their feelings of entitlement….and you’ve taught them that the way to get what they want is to act disrespectful and throw a big enough fit…. And you’ll cave in.
The 2nd reason our teen’s act disrespectful is because they feel like they have been or currently are being disrespected…by you.
The disrespect they feel comes from a lack of truly understanding where they’re coming from and who they really are.

As a high school teacher but do not have a good teenage years this helped me understand how to build a relationship with my students. I was raised traditional but my peers weren't and now as an adult I am shutting my parents in order to care for my bruised teen at heart. I needed that to be healthy.

Every kid is different, But in my opinion - MOST of todays teens: "Heart to heart" ONLY exists when things are the way THEY want them. The very SECOND they DONT get their way - you are the most horrible person on earth & THEY'RE A "victim" 🙄 ... AND as far as "being vulnerable " with them - they will simply blanket that with the "OMG none of that will even happen" or "I know that already" soooo.... I'm guessing this video is WAY OUTDATED. Because MAYBE this might work with earlier generations - but NOT today's teens. Between being taught by computers (in public schools) & ALL the Social Media platforms, the internet, as a whole, has has made SUCH A NEGATIVE IMPACT on today's kids.

I read this awhile ago. We put our kids before ourselves. Devaluation of our own relationship as parents. They can't handle any responsibility. Kids are actually drunk with entitlement. It makes total sense.

As a parent of two boys and two girls, I agree with everything she said. This is how I raised my kids and never had them disrespect me; they are now all in their late 20s and 30s and still have respect for me and still will come to talk when they have an issue because they know I listen. And will not try to judge or solve their problems. I will make suggestions as to what I would do.

It’s so hard to be an introverted parent to an extroverted child. The things he wants from me is just not my personality. I already drain my social and mental battery by doing soooo much I would never do so he feels like I’m involved. But I don’t think he knows how taxing it is for me. I want to be just like him I was just not born that way.

My daughter just screamed in my face relentlessly bc I was explaining her rx to her that I just paid 145 $ for . I told her stop screaming in my face . Than she came in my face loud screaming and I lost my shit and threw her rx on the floor and said I’m done . Which was s tube gel it was not goi g to break , she in return took my rx and threw it at the wall breaking it and blamed me and said she was like me and I made her do it . This is bullshit . I never did anything wrong all I did was sit out 7 rx and try to help her find a way to set them up and check ingredients bc she has allergies . And I’m being talked to with sarcastic words and being talked over and screamed at . I literally grabbed my coffee and breakfast I left the house and I’m sitting in my car right now to get away from her screaming at the top of her lungs . She rages and won’t calm down . I’m sick of this she is gonna be 18 . Idk how to make her respect me . She calls me uneducated belittles me and Will not allow me to be the mom I need to be . She can’t support herself and is a risky behavioral child turning into an adult , I wish I knew what to say when I leave this car and go back inside, I’m taking a cool off for her and me , but I want this to stop . I understand she is turning into an adult but that does t give you the right to scream at your mother . When she turns 18 and thinks this will be tolerated it won’t . I’m getting her therapy today and I’m a very loving mom and she comes first before anything. But the rages are real the control are real the screaming at me is real and the blaming me is real . I litaeralky feel abused in these moments and she can be a loving kind daughter as well . Im not a narcissist crying poor me and far from an abuser . But this uncontrollable rage against me needs to stop , I literally do t no to be kind at this time or stop dealing with her . But either way no there id no consequence for this behavior . And it continues . What do I do ?

Talking with many people and their experiences doesn't just fall on that particular teen. It is an adolescent phase to challenge boundaries. What has happened with the gentle parenting movement is parents are the first to blame in what's going wrong. Instead of the adolescent being corrected and the parent supported through other resources, instead the resources side with teen. Society has placed parents in the backseat of parenting. Teachers have been left on the curb, while the adolescents screams at us that we are being unfair for parenting. Everyone is a winner and no child left behind has set the bar low for these kids when it comes to learning accountability.
