I live on a small farm in Kansas, that's been my husband's family for 5 generations. What some people call homesteading, we call life. And I LOVE this life
After we retired, we bought our 5th wheel & traveled, for a couple of years, while renting out our farm. We met a multitude of other nomads along the way.
We enjoyed our travels, but missed farm life. We’re back on the farm, full time & will continue to travel part time

Kitchen experiment - a new way to peel peppers #growyourownfood #greenchilli
มุมมอง 458ปีที่แล้ว
Trying another kitchen experiment. Wanting to char & peel chili peppers for diced green chilis I split lengthwise & removed the seeds & membrane. Opened up peppers & layer flat on baking pan, skin side up. Placed under broiler, until peppers are well charred. Put immediately into ice water. Skin peeled right off I think this experiment is a success

This is the 3 of my series in making the "Christmas Pickles". Red Cinnamon & Green lime. They're delicious anytime, but make very pretty relish trays during the holidays. Christmas Pickles! Prepping cucumbers for red cinnamon & green lime pickles Part 1 of series
มุมมอง 907ปีที่แล้ว
This is part 1 in a series of making Christmas Pickles, Lime green pickles & red cinnamon pickles The first step is the same. Start with 7#’s cucumbers, Peel & cut the cucumbers. Can be cut into sticks or rings. Some people leave the seeds, but I prefer to remove the seeds, as it makes prettier pickles. Fill a non-aluminum pot, crock or stainless work great, with 8 1/2 quarts of water & 2 cups ...
Homestead meal in my Instapot! #instantpotcooking #homesteadcooking #growyourownfood
มุมมอง 332ปีที่แล้ว
Being able to grow your own food & knowing where it came from, is the best part of homesteading. Our goal has always been, to be as self sufficient as possible. When you live “out in the boonies”, I learned to keep my pantry well stocked at all times I’m slowly learning to do more with my instant pot, trying to teach an old dog new tricks 😉 My favorite use of my instapot is the ability to go fr...

The Old Farmer likes his steak rare rare & I like mine medium rare. In less than 10 minutes supper was ready 😊
Wild sandhill plum jelly #sandhilljelly #forjars #organicfood
มุมมอง 861ปีที่แล้ว
After picking the wild sandhill plums, time to make some good old fashioned sandhill plum jelly. Wash the plums, by rinsing multiple times. Even though their wild and true organic, they still have small bugs and dirt on them. Not necessary to remove them stems, they will be strained. Add plums to large stock pot, cover plums with water, for example, if I have 3" of plums in the pot, I add at le...

How & what we feed our cattle, come along with us #ranchlife #feedinglivestock #forjars
มุมมอง 542ปีที่แล้ว
Come along as we check on and feed our cattle. Our cattle are on pasture every day, all year. During the winter, we supplement with protein feed, called range cubes or "cake". They are also fed hay or forage, that we grow on our farm. Now we are feeding "feed" bales, sedan feed & prairie hay, or native grass hay. The cows & calves get water from the creek that runs through our property and we a...

Love your video
Thats a lot of salt for two lbds
Has anyone tried to seal dehydrated food jars with these?
It has been a year. Something happened. Weather she is still alive or not, I hope it is due to a sickness in the family. Thanks for the videos
Please list it in the description
What brand is your I got one today and it have a different gauge I want that gauge with elevation on it Mine has A-V weird
Love your Corning cup. I have & use the same pattern.
Thank you for the info. We had a predator kill one of our hens and we saw the many yokes left behind and we were not sure if they were eggs or not
Same recipe as pizzell.
What internal temperature are you aiming for?
I always felt like we should have a festival once a year there where the whole country gets together and shares different things with one another about their states. Like food, dance, music, fashion etc wouldnt that be cool? I think so. Maybe wed get along better lol
This is exciting. I’ll do this one first, then venture out with other options. Awesome, thanks!
I just did turkey for the first time. I didn't add the whole 1/2 teaspoon of salt and still thought it was too salty. I also found that I didn't get as many jars as I thought. LOL
So glad you are doing raw pack canning without adding broth. I have watched so many videos and everyone adds broth. I can raw chicken without adding broth and didn’t know if I could do turkey without broth because it seems to be dryer than chicken meat. Thank you so much for showing that it can be done.
Excellent video New sub
Might try this, we buy about 4 bags a month and it's pricey.
You are such a cutie, thank you. I've Only been canning for 3 yrs now but every year I rewatch videos to make sure I don't kill anyone.
If you mix your cocoa powder and your sugar together FIRST... makes it easier
I keep checking your page and fearful That there’s no updates. If family or one of her friends knows about Barb please leave a note. I know both Barb and her husband had had health issues this past yr.
Bois D Arc, Osage Orange, horse apple, good for fence posts and bows. I think I remember it being similar to iron wood in that you worked it before you dried it or it ruined your diamond saw blades. Long ago there was a saw mill near me advertising they would cut it.
Question. Ontario found a area that has these can you eat ?
You say you know whats in it, what the hell is in tender quick or liquid smoke, sounds ranks to me
Tougher and breast looks like dark meat.😮
Looks so good ❤❤❤❤
Good evening friend 🌞
I loved this! Thank you! The only thing I was finally able to have of my Grandma’s (and she raised me), was her krumkake iron. Working up the courage to try and let my kiddos try something I was spoiled to have as a child. 🥰 My grandma was 100% Swedish and my grandpa 100% Norwegian 😂
Freezing whole corn on the cob in the husk may be the easiest. But how does it taste when it's thawed and cooked?
If you just use the peels it will not be good. You need to use far more onions than skins. Add peppercorns, a few celery.
Chopped red bell pepper would be wonderful. Pepper is sweet.
Hope you are doing okay.
Hey great video but can i please have an updated video on bird seed and updated prices because im struggling to fing cheap bird seed. I found that when bird seed is not on sale the cheapest place is walmart for 40lbs for $17.88 and i mix in chicken scrach from tractor supply when on sale for 50lbs for $11.00 and recently petsmart had a sale for 40lbs for $9.99 and i bought all they had and the next day the sale ended i was so upset 😡.
Was at wal-mart today looking at seed. The ingredient list looked 2 miles long. A bunch of crap fillers and soy. I'm in S. Calif., not really sure what kind of birds we have out here. Is the corn and millet you get GMO. I heard animals can tell the difference, and some won't touch it.
I have to say the prices have increased a lot since this video was posted!! I'm in New england and I found the cheapest way to buy bird seed when not on sale is walmart 40lbs bags for $17.88 but when the bird seed is on sale I try to buy a 40 lbs bag for less that $10.00 petsmart has a sale ended 2 days ago and it was 40lbs for $9.99 so I bought all of them lol and was going to go back and the sale ended. But I also mix in chicken scrach from tractor supply when on sale for 50lbs for $11.00. I hope this helps!!
I haven't got a microwave - what to do?
is dawn really a miraculous solution?sb tells me,pls.
how Dawn works?combination of detergence and soda powder?
I cannot tell you how good these look! Beef Stew is one of my favorites.
I bought a Krumkake maker almost a year ago after watching a Hallmark movie (My Norwegian Holiday, I think). They made them. I have yet to use it 😮😮😮I will soon!!! Just nervous about using the maker and having them turn out.
Hope everything is going well with you. Haven't seen you on here for a while
I have one of these I've never used you don't have to butter it or anything before you put the batter in? I don't have a cone either I think I'm going to use one of my smaller rolling pins to roll them up. Thanks for your video
Do you’ve to use red hots to make red pickles? I don’t like red hots!
My Mom is almost 90. I’m making this for her tomorrow and buy wheat thins to eat it on.
Made me laugh at the comment about the bugs and "their going to die in the freezer." I'm going to do my corn this way from now on. Thanks & many blessings to you!
Eureka ks
Definitely going to try this
I Tried Forjar and ended up returning them. They did not seal near as well as ball. I've never had a ball or Kerr lid fail, but I've had several of Forjar fail. They open even with my fingers.. That is with Pressure canning with an All American.. That is my experience, just sending back 200 of the lids because of the failures.
I love this I'm 65 been making since the 70s yummy,! Hello from Missouri 👋
I bought some “clearjell” from Amazon because it wasn’t available in any stores near me. When I looked at the ingredients list it said ‘cornstarch’. What’s the difference? Cornstarch would have been a lot cheaper.
Does anyone know if you keep the red dye/vinegar/water/alum mixture and use in your syrup? Or do you drain and toss that?
Gotta say when i seen you start painting red i was saying STOP IT! But it actually turned out very nice! Thank you for sharing!
I grew up in Alaska. My Aunt Marge had a garden and one christmas i got to visit. She had froze her and canned her harvest. That was the favorite meal of my life.
