    Roy I just found your videos. I really love them because you are TEACHING as you paint. Going through the thought process in how you make decisions and how you paint as you do it is really helpful! Also thinking ahead about obstacles and the planning process and why you would do something first or next is essential!! THANK YOU! (I assume you are painting in oil, but I would really like to see some videos about how to use acrylics or Golden Opens in Plein air painting.)

    0:31. The scene behind you, is the scene you painted...You made that Sycamore, FAR MORE INTERESTING in your painting. You have some sort of darker outline, that gives the tree POUNCE...Which the real Sycamore does not have. A painting style all your own....If you painted that tree, as it REALLY LOOKED, the bright high lights of that tree would be lost in the bright sky.

    Beautiful! I noticed that you Paint with little amount of pigment and it works so well. When I use color in my case I see that there is some transparency there and it makes the painting harder. It's the brush?(Filbert brush, thin hair) It's the color brand? Thanks a lot!!!!

    1. Find the contrast: by a dark and light value for shadow-lightest. 2. Plant It Out: Give yourself a plan by mapping Sketch Out Value Study with 3-4 (light-middle-dark) values with big shapes 3. Establish a Value Pattern: quickly work with/ a large value pattern & Fix everything in a position prior to breaking down value family 4. Create Unity: out of Multiplicity like repeating lines, shapes, textures, or colors 5. Know When to Stop: step by and look at your painting during the process

    Not enough info on painting videos about important things like: What is the canvas surface like, this one looks easy to push paint around on. Most acrylic primed canvases aren't like that, usually they're too rough or absorbent and hard on brushes. If the surface is too slick, paint gets too streaky and hard to paint over with other paint. What are you thinning the paint with, just OMS? Or with some oil added? Anything?

    Am loving your videos - so concise and helpful. Thanks so much! Curious as to how long it took you to paint this scene? And could you (or have you) addressed your brushes and mediums, if any? When you tone the canvas, is it strictly with oil, oil mixed with a bit of odorless turpentine or linseed oil? Apologies if you have already addressed this somewhere and I just haven’t gotten there yet!

    I find making thumbnail sketches super challenging. I know i should make them and often do but they don’t really help me and mostly just frustrate me. I should probably just focus on making a ton of them to find the groove but if you have any tips that would be great!

    When painting oil paintings, mixing colors becomes tiresome and anxious as time goes by. That always leads to failure. Do you have any know-how to overcome it?

    • @PleinAirSchool
      @PleinAirSchool 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you don't mix paint on the palette then you will have to on the canvas. That is one thing to try. The only other thing is to build up your will power. If you are painting for fun I would say start painting digitally.
