Plein air Demo from the hills of Brown County. If you want solid advice and a free demo check it out, give me a thumbs up if you like it and a follow if you would like to see more!
I'm about to start my plein air journey and I thought if you use warm shadows you use cool colours on top? or a more prominent notion is to actually implement cool colours as shadows because they receed while warm colours advance?. I noticed you did mention the cool tone of the sky and therefore the warmth of the painting is based on all the foliage (but even in the shadows?) Sorry I think your painting looks great! And I'm going to need your expertise 😅 but I'm confused about temperatures (and shadow temps?) as it feels as though the 'rules' are of course only guides but when do I use these guides? I actually was also at an impression that sky blue is often warm (maybe depending on the scene!/time of day or maybe it's the overall impression - if you want the sky as a main feature - bring it forward with warmth or push it back with coolness?). Thanks if you answer this. 😊 I'm sure it all comes down to experimentation!
Love your explanations and showcasing of your process! Great quality video. Looking forward to more!
Thank you Laurel! Next one is in edit.
This is great. Simplification of shadow in light with foliage has always been my nemesis.
Thank you, easiest to get it out of the way early!
Take this as you may. I didn't know Aaron Rogers could paint. Awesome vid

Great video, Roy! Did you use a hog hair brush for the whole painting, or something softer? Beautiful painting!
Thanks Susie! The start was a hog hair, Robert Simmons Signet, then a softer Trekell Spectrum 3000LF (I think)

Thanks it`s nice! Your easel looks so simple and comfortable. Is it handmade?
Thank you! It is a Retz Easel, I have a video on it here, th-cam.com/video/n59tRIPSHKc/w-d-xo.html
1:14 Was this part painted without using heavy oil? I'd like to know if you use Medium in general.
That is from using Galkyd and a little paint thinner. I've been adding a tiny bit of stand oil into the mix lately. Good luck with your work!
How could that dry between layers fast enough without it just making mud?
Galkyd Medium, it almost speeds it up to acrylic drying speed
Could you do a demo on your set up and exactly how to emulate that?
There is this video. th-cam.com/video/n59tRIPSHKc/w-d-xo.html
Are you wanting to know something else involved in the set up?
Thank you!! This set up is awesome. Glad to have found you on TH-cam. Hoping any tripod works? Meaning my camera tripod?
Only 98.3 %?
not even that! Best I can do is 93.8%
good painting! BUT annoying and distracting music!!!!
if it only gets 90% better you get a thumbs down
Haha, if that is the price I must pay!
