    Overcome that 'huge' 1sec turbo lag from stationary by putting your left foot on the brake and load up the torque converter with your right foot. It'll take off like a scolded cat. Alternatively, don't pull out in front of people. Wait a few seconds for a bigger gap!

    Got around to getting this battery, kaon bracket for a charger etc. To run your wires from the aux battery to your boot - did you go along the chassis rails and up through the boot, or grommets in the firewall and along the interior? Any tips greatly appreciated :)

    • @chrisp10022
      @chrisp10022 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I went through the firewall then along the side, I would have gone one size bigger just for future proofing. Centre pillar was very hard to get behind, feed something else through first then draw your wire!

    This is perfect! thank you for making this, i am just about to order some for our Prado we just got. In the 2nd row do they come separate so you can do the fold to access the 3rd row of seating? Trying to decide if we just want black stitching, is this the standard silver that comes with it?

    • @chrisp10022
      @chrisp10022 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @louiseo5930 Yes the second row does come in two pieces so that the seats can fold and move as normal. I seem to remember you can choose your stitching colour, but check their web site as it's been a while since I purchased them!

      I'm very happy with them, easy to clean, I usually just brush them off with the very occasional wash needed. They spend most of the time dirty, I've not noticed anything particular with the material, even after washing they still look fine.

    Great vid and knowledge, thank you. Looks to be the go-to resource for Prado 150 mods. If you were to do it all from scratch, would still use the BCDC (or DCDC) to charge the lithium, and have the manual isolator?

    • @chrisp10022
      @chrisp10022 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @andrewcaldwell2275 Thanks for your feedback, and great question. I'm not totally convinced in the vale of a BCDC, if I was trying to save money then no I would use the alternator whilst driving & solar with regulator to charge, Either way the manual isolator is a must, I've just returned from a trip and it really does help protect drain from the starter battery, I'm actually going do some testing and maybe another video on this subject. I certainly would not use a voltage sensing isolator again, which I put in for charge back, and need to remove some relays I put in to try and automate the starter battery isolation! Next time - keep it simple!

    Just bought a demo GXL. This is my first Toyota and wasn't my first choice when I started looking for a new car, but after a test drive, I kind of get why they're so popular. My fuel economy is very good at 10.1/100 for all my driving so far, though I don't drive around town much. IMHO, that is good for a 4x4 with a bull bar and 32" AT tires. Thanks for the video.

    You don't need to switch off traction control to get the diff locks engaged, but obviously 4 low is required. It's the disengaging again after a river crossing, for instance, that can be a little frustrating. I've found that after stopping and putting the trans in neutral and releasing the 4 low and diff locks the Prado can remain in that configuration for a short distance before it goes back to normal highway settings, basically when it feels like it. I'm talking 2019 j150.

    • @chrisp10022
      @chrisp10022 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Of course, pause the video at 1:40, you can see the pressure switch is fitted facing to the right in this case, fit the air hose connector to the top, once those are both in tight, fit the T piece into the pump. Use gas PTFE tape (yellow) on the thread, wrap in the thread direction so when screwing in you go with the wrapping direction, wrap around about 3 - 4 times. When you screw together, turn so that it is tight, but do not try to screw it all the way in just enough so it is firm., metal to metal you can use grips but screwing into the pump do it by hand until it is firm & in the right direction. Hope this helps

    • @chrisp10022
      @chrisp10022 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @RallyeX coret, I did not use a battery tray as the mounting is now the same as the starter battery. I therefore went for the Toyota fixing bracket so now it is identical to the starter battery fitting. I did however add a thin rubber sheet to the bottom of the new battery to help it sit tight. The Toyota bracket does not come as a kit so you have to get all the parts individually but their spares team can help with that.

    Thanks for your thoughts. We took delivery of a VX this year, and we like the lack of tech like auto engine off when stopping at lights etc. The inbuilt GPS was no good, could not find addresses in ACT so we now have a third party GPS, no interest in car play options. We have the blind spot monitoring, but as you say not necessary with the Prado mirrors, and not bright enoungh to see in strong light anyway. As for the drive chain don't really like the way it changes down two gears when it starts to engine brake going down hill, as you still have to brake to avoid going over the speed limit etc. But other than that it is smooth in the gears etc. Acceleration is slow but apart from overtaking dont mind that. Having leather seats made it necessary to get covers. One thing we are looking for are mud guards for the front of the rear wheels as they shovel mud onto the running board steps. Real pain. But so far cant find anything specific. Since the VX comes with 19" wheels no good tyres available. Asked Toyota if the STD 17" rims still fit as there was a change to the brake calipers in our model. They just said we think they still fit but have not swapped any in 2023 models yet. We purchased ours for a tourer, with no serious off road stuff planned and it good good for what we purchased it for.

    Thx for sharing. Some great info especially showing us the access to the wiring behind the dashboard ( I own a 2019 GX Prado). Slightly off topic, is there wiring in there to tap into for a UHF radio power ? Also off topic, how is the Itech lithium battery under the bonnet going and also the OME suspension ? I am having an OME 2” suspension lift put into the car next week so hoping I have made a good choice ! Trust you had a great Xmas Cheers

    • @chrisp10022
      @chrisp10022 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your feedback, the best place for the UHF power is to use a fuse tap into the fuse box just above the accelerator pedal as you will need to include a fuse in the UHF supply, (the fuse box cover does not fit back once you use a tap). You can get fuse taps on ebay. You'll need to decide if you want switched power. I took mine back to the aux battery, although I have to say I hardly use it when the car is off. As for the battery, it has been fine so far however I'm off on a trip this weekend so will give it a good work out! The suspension has been good, I might go for air bags in the distant future just so I can adjust the ride as and when required, a cost I could not afford when I did it, but no real reason to change! Suspension is a difficult one as we know what we like but you cannot try before you buy!

      @@chrisp10022 Hi. Thx for reply and info on the UHF power supply and suspension. My 2nd battery is a deep cycle lead acid, so have been trying to keep tabs on how the iTech lithiums perform for when I need to replace it. Agree with the suspension especially in relation to spring rates. Everyone’s (including the manufacturers) perception on what is firm, hard, soft etc is different. Like you I have found the standard Prado suspension to soft so have gone for 200kg springs in the rear. I know it will feel firm, But hopefully the car won’t ride like a stage coach ! Cheers

      @4bnewb969 Update on the iTech battery after a short trip. I ran a Bushman 52 L as fridge & Bushman 15 L Roadie as freezer (-18) and with some lights as well over New Years. I reached around 50% capacity used (50AH) which with my AGM would have been at the end of its use. It was cloudy one day so I was glad to have the extra capacity so I did not stress about limited solar charging! This was the main reason I changed to the Lithium as I just needed more capacity (for the kids to have ice treats!) and wanted to save weight. I'll be interested to see how far I can push it and how the capacity changes over time, but at the moment it's working as I had expected.

      Many thanks, I actually made the bracket myself for the isolator which can be found here: www.repco.com.au/globes-batteries-electrical/electrical-accessories/switches/oex-mini-battery-master-isolation-switch-spst-contacts-rated-100a-32v-acx3401bl/p/A5541887?rgfeed=true&cid=google-shopping&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw-pyqBhDmARIsAKd9XIP-ngzT71Q8PLHv34zNfQY0DKg4yH8k7C2_EFlqwXHPLg0hxYNIkRUaAldxEALw_wcB

    Great vid. I have a similar rack from Tradesmenroofracks. I love the mesh except when I want to attach a mount for a specific accessory (e.g. maxtrack mount). I wish there was a generic mount for mesh style racks that would convert part of the mesh to a channel based system.

      No crawl control, just downhill assist.
