Sawing White Oak 2x6's for a customer to Finish Building their Barn
มุมมอง 1.1K7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
In today's video we have some White Oaks to saw for the customer that lost their Barn during hurricane Helene. In a Previous video we sawed up most of what they needed to finish their rebuild but they were about 100 2x6's short. They brought us some more logs and today we are going to cut as many of their 2x6's as we can out of what they brought. We did lose some of the footage of the intro and...

But all of the logs are small compared to what we normally saw, and it takes many more of them to build our stacks. While we are sawing them, we are making 3 different stacks. Hi, I am running a small sawmilll operation in India and I have installed woodmizer lt70 wide .I wanted to know how much cubic feet of wood or board feet can we cut in a 8 hr shift .

    • @BeardedLumber

      Well, that's a loaded question. Are you running an Edger? How many people down stream moving Lumber? What species of logs? What length and diameter of logs ? What grade of logs ? Now all things being good the mill is capable of 1k Board feet of Lumber an hour if you have enough people and equipment downstream to allow the mill to stay busy sawing no down time waiting on a new log or for Lumber to get away from the mill. Thx for the question. I hope this helps

    So do the cutters on the right or left side of the head wear more than the other side just due to the normal path of the lumber through the planer? By the looks of the breakage, you really only have one turn, 180 degrees as the 90 and 270 faces have bits missing as well.

    • @BeardedLumber
      @BeardedLumber วันที่ผ่านมา

      They only get damaged by foreign objects example dirt grit rocks nails. Yes the inside wears more than the outside.

    I use fingernail polish to paint the old insert edges before I begin so I can then easily keep track of where I am for changing spiral cutter inserts. Further I always know how many more changes I have left. This is very handy when I get interrupted during a cutter change and later when I return can restart changeover easily. Ray

  • @mgbill793
    @mgbill793 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Get the 6" face on top and bottom first. Then, saw the other two faces turning the log 180 after every cut until you get down to 5 5/8". Now, cut the square cant turning after every cut to take out the stress. Lumber will be much straighter.

    • @BeardedLumber
      @BeardedLumber วันที่ผ่านมา

      You need to take a clearing cut every time can't moves . Not every log needs turned so many times, but I do when it's necessary. Thx for watching and commenting 👍

    • @mgbill793
      @mgbill793 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @BeardedLumber usually when cutting long white oak, you have to turn the log more often because of the stress. I know it takes more time, but the lumber will be better.

    So why is lumber expensive ?

    • @BeardedLumber
      @BeardedLumber 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Lumber has vast amount of cost built into each board. 1 land owner wants paid 2 logger needs cut and transport to a mill and make a profit 3 Lumber mill has massive cost built in and storage cost and need to be profitable 4 Someone has to transport to your local retail outlet. 5 local retailers need to maintain enough inventory to satisfy your needs and others and still make a profit.
