In the 1970's, I was building houses in Mississippi/ virtually all of our moldings came from a mill in Memphis and were milled from sweet gum. Molding were mostly knot free and machined glass smooth. I never saw tear out. The wood was fine grained and stained well and painted even better.
I guess I missed the detail that it's eventualyl set to .750. What's with humans always trying for minimal thicknesses. I guess 3/4 hardwood is good for ceilings and walls, but if it were me I'd try for a 1" thick floor :) cool video
if you can get your hands on some black gum ,you would love it. a totaly better gum. much easier to work with. My learning is, take striaght , no less than 16 inch logs on the small end. as for the heart wood completly cut out a 3 x3 or 4x4 out of the heart. the rest will do good. I'll be doing more this spring. I hve two building to build and i use the gum for framing and sidding. we have many buildings here I've built over the years. so let say I've mess with quite a bit of it. Some I'll be doing TG for the inside of the shop. I have be jointer modler . needs to have to rust knoted off of it. love your set up. live is nothing but a leason.
maybe run random boards through this setting while your trying to fill a order a few more boards want slow the job down that much. works on this at this setting. pick your 5 top wood you run it and write the book this setting this wood did this etc. this method works on about every thing life to work pick your best 5 girl friends well this one makes best biscuits this one makes best corn bread.etc.
Ahh Sweet Gum...I had a sweet gum tree aging out and dropping limbs on my house. Had it cut down and milled into lumber, stacked and dried. Turned black with mold, not enough air flow I think. Using it in my shop, planing and jointing with a 6" jointer and 12" planer. Beautiful colorful wood but twists and warps while you watch. I glue up a panel and a day later it's twisted. It does tend to chip. Any suggestions? I was wondering if your machine would straighten the boards? I live in the steep part of the learning curve.

the boards will twist even if you hold them flat threw a planer or molder planner. the nature of the beast.
Was it completely dry? Stay away from the heart wood sticker and stack dry completely before using
