Hey brother, that is Sycamore. Love Y’alls videos, I plan to post more myself. Y’all and a few others have been an inspiration to film more and put it on TH-cam.
Sycamore and interlocking grains. Best if you can quarter saw. Has nice medullary rays similar to red/white. Enjoy watching your videos and the information you share to help any and everyone. I’ve been milling for many years and I always learn a little each video.
@@BeardedLumberyou’re welcome sir. We have a lot of sycamore here in eastern Virginia and beech as well. Sycamore has a textured bark in the butt log but tends to become slick bark after that. I mill it every few months and learned the hard way on not quarter sawn it. Heart is bad like cherry. I like to dry it slow like white oak, low heat. Beech has very similar characteristics but is a little harder to control in the drying process.
the bark and color say sycamore. i dry lots of beach and scaymore air dried for 6 months or so and then kiln dry it. no problems with90% of it. wide boards will cup like any other wood. I really don't understand to suddenly kiln dry lumber so fast. it can degrade the lumber badly. each to his own. I took down two huge sycamoe trees over 54 inch at the base near the house that were dieing years ago. made beautifull lumber. all slow air dried stickered in buildings. turned out great to build with.

It almost brings tears to my eyes seeing the flitches that are small and weird shaped that could be used to make toys.

I agree it was Sycamore customer said it was beech
^^ agree on letting it air dry. It will relax with a little age versus right in the kiln being its interlocking grain.
Looks like Sycamore, typically beech has smoother bark.
You're correct it's Sycamore I went by what the customer told me Oops.
