We plan on taking what we've learned through small space living into our next home, a condo with approximately t...
HAWAII WARDROBE | making everything I wore for our summer trip
มุมมอง 673ปีที่แล้ว
I LOVE having fresh, new clothes for big vacations. For me, it's one of the best parts of vacation planning. This summer I decided that I would make myself a coordinated wardrobe for our trip to Maui, Hawaii using only 2 different fabrics in the same color family and I'm so happy with how it turned out! Thanks for watching this summer sewing adventure and let me know in the comments if you have...
SPOOKY DRESS | Sewing a Halloween version of a Reformation-style dress for October!
มุมมอง 4892 ปีที่แล้ว
This month, I paired an adorable Halloween fabric with a pattern that I've had my eye on for a while to get a spooky version of a Reformation-style dress! I am looking forward to wearing this dress with sneakers to school to see if any of my students notice the tiny ghosts and pumpkins in quiet celebration of my favorite season. This pattern was a 10/10 for me after some tweaking and I plan on ...

HALLOWEEN WITCH | Creating a REAL witch costume for Halloween!
มุมมอง 2.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
After reading A Discovery of Witches and Outlander this last year, I was inspired to make myself an authentic witch costume for Halloween! This was a HUGE project for me and I learned so many new things, including how to insert boning, applying grommets, and sewing in a bodice lining. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out; I even won my office costume contest! Let me know in the comments...

THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT | Sewing My Two Favorite Costumes from the Show!
มุมมอง 1.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I recently read The Queen's Gambit with my book club and it re-ignited the deep love I have for this show and it's incredible costumes! Obviously, I had to find a way to alter some existing patterns to re-create my two favorite looks from the mini-series. (Can you tell that I'm already pining for Halloween??) Something about this era just makes me swoon. Let me know down below what you thought ...
SEWING DATE | Making the famous M7969 pattern with a friend!

My friend Sabrina is a bit of a novice when it comes to apparel sewing. When she invited me over for an entire day of sewing together, I knew exactly which pattern I wanted to bring over! The #m7969 pattern from McCalls is VERY popular for it's easy construction and effortless style. I love how many different versions you can get out of this pattern as well! CORSET TOP DIY | My attempt at making something worthy of a vintage fabric! +Vlog
มุมมอง 1.1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
When I picked out this toile fabric, I just instantly fell in love with the beauty of the colors and the story it told. I had no idea at the time that it was an out-of-print vintage pattern from the 40's and 50's! I knew I had to make something special that would really show it off and I though that this corset pattern I already had on hand would be the perfect thing. I still have about a yard ...

Yes, I agree with those who say to secure your batting in some way. How much it needs secured depends on the batting. I have a quilt I made about 35 years ago which I did minimal quilting and tying on which has held up just fine. The original batting is probably indicative of the age of the quilt. My grandmother's quilts were made with a fine cotton batting, which does break down over time; at least, all of hers show similar condition like that. Those quilts of hers I am going by are all 50-80 years old. So anything with a batting like that is probably going to have the batting fall apart when you cut through it.

Hi Emily, it’s Payama Tiffany. Congratulations you guys! Your new home is beautiful and I vote for bedroom color #4! 😊 I am so inspired by all of your sewing projects! I took three years of sewing in high school, and I’ve hemmed a few things here and there, but I have not followed a pattern in 30 years! 😅 I love the Oak Glen area and it’s near our family cabin. James and I will have to get you guys up there one day. 🩵 Loved the video!

I made this hat last spring but I used felt for the under hat and the inside layer, and bc of that, I was able to do without the wire (bc I was too lazy to get some). It came out okay, though, and everyone has complimented it as I've been wearing it for my witch costume this Halloween!

Is it possible to do the exact same thing in the vid but with felt or do you need to make adjustments

    • @SheSewsDiscord
      @SheSewsDiscord หลายเดือนก่อน

@@Areweallevenalive So instead of interfacing, I just make the second pieces (not the fashion layer on top, but the layers that will go on the bottom of the brim and the inside of the hat) out of felt. I can sort of bunch up or fold the felt on the inside to create the look of the cone that I want. It's not as sturdy and doesn't retain the shape as well as having a wire, but if you're looking to do it even more quickly than what she does, it works.

I tend to think that this will not be a coat that will require frequent washing if at all. Her patch pockets will secure an area to the batting. There is probably enough seams with the hems and binding to secure the batting. She has used the quilt as a whole fabric which is a lovely look as opposed to sewing the squares to the batting. A softer more fluid look for the coat. Love the look.

I made this and I absolutely love it! Pink & Purple reversible witch hat. I added interfacing to the cone and that was great for shape but not for flipping. As it came out a little on the small size I'm whipping up another larger and well black as is far more befitting of a witch of my years haha ... I mean cackle cackle!!
