HAWAII WARDROBE | making everything I wore for our summer trip
I LOVE having fresh, new clothes for big vacations. For me, it's one of the best parts of vacation planning. This summer I decided that I would make myself a coordinated wardrobe for our trip to Maui, Hawaii using only 2 different fabrics in the same color family and I'm so happy with how it turned out! Thanks for watching this summer sewing adventure and let me know in the comments if you have a favorite make from this big project.

SPOOKY DRESS | Sewing a Halloween version of a Reformation-style dress for October!
มุมมอง 463ปีที่แล้ว
This month, I paired an adorable Halloween fabric with a pattern that I've had my eye on for a while to get a spooky version of a Reformation-style dress! I am looking forward to wearing this dress with sneakers to school to see if any of my students notice the tiny ghosts and pumpkins in quiet celebration of my favorite season. This pattern was a 10/10 for me after some tweaking and I plan on ...

HALLOWEEN WITCH | Creating a REAL witch costume for Halloween!
มุมมอง 2.3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
After reading A Discovery of Witches and Outlander this last year, I was inspired to make myself an authentic witch costume for Halloween! This was a HUGE project for me and I learned so many new things, including how to insert boning, applying grommets, and sewing in a bodice lining. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out; I even won my office costume contest! Let me know in the comments...

THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT | Sewing My Two Favorite Costumes from the Show!

I recently read The Queen's Gambit with my book club and it re-ignited the deep love I have for this show and it's incredible costumes! Obviously, I had to find a way to alter some existing patterns to re-create my two favorite looks from the mini-series. (Can you tell that I'm already pining for Halloween??) Something about this era just makes me swoon. Let me know down below what you thought ...
SEWING DATE | Making the famous M7969 pattern with a friend!

My friend Sabrina is a bit of a novice when it comes to apparel sewing. When she invited me over for an entire day of sewing together, I knew exactly which pattern I wanted to bring over! The #m7969 pattern from McCalls is VERY popular for it's easy construction and effortless style. I love how many different versions you can get out of this pattern as well! Stay tuned until the end to see some...
CORSET TOP DIY | My attempt at making something worthy of a vintage fabric! +Vlog
มุมมอง 1.1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
When I picked out this toile fabric, I just instantly fell in love with the beauty of the colors and the story it told. I had no idea at the time that it was an out-of-print vintage pattern from the 40's and 50's! I knew I had to make something special that would really show it off and I though that this corset pattern I already had on hand would be the perfect thing. I still have about a yard ...

    I tend to think that this will not be a coat that will require frequent washing if at all. Her patch pockets will secure an area to the batting. There is probably enough seams with the hems and binding to secure the batting. She has used the quilt as a whole fabric which is a lovely look as opposed to sewing the squares to the batting. A softer more fluid look for the coat. Love the look.

    I made this and I absolutely love it! Pink & Purple reversible witch hat. I added interfacing to the cone and that was great for shape but not for flipping. As it came out a little on the small size I'm whipping up another larger and well black as is far more befitting of a witch of my years haha ... I mean cackle cackle!!

  • @typhainepaquotte7003
    @typhainepaquotte7003 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I made this yesterday, took me wayy more than 30min but came out so cool. I used thick black velvet and interfaced half of the pieces. Don't forget to trim & clip your curves and use your iron at each step, it changes everything (and maybe topstitch the border) ! Also i would recommand sewing a line near the border of the hat to create a channel so that the wire doesn't move. Also, as usual : always right sides together.

    im here to say the tutorial is really great and it's totally possible to make this hat without any experience, sewing machine or idea what you're doing, it's just that it took me a WHOLE day instead of 30 minutes 🥲 but totally worth it

    It took a while because I had to recut one brim, and I hand sewed because I do not have access to a sewing machine. But I'm dearly in love with it, I used blue fabric and it's AMAZING. Thank you!

    Sewing 1/2 inch in on the cones made it so the cone circle was smaller than the inner donut circle and so it didn’t align when I tried to sew. Also it was very difficult to sew the cone onto the inner circle of the brim.

    Hi! For the twin needle, you may need to fuss with the tension and presser foot pressure, as well as the stitch length. I’ve had this issue too and on my machine, the “normal” stitch tension is ~5-6 and I have to turn it down to 2 for the twin needle. I also use a longer stitch length, and leave long thread tails at the beginning and end. DO NOT backstitch- this will create a tangle. What you need to do is tie the thread tails in a knot at the beginning and end. Hope this helps!

    • @briandaaranda9735
      @briandaaranda9735 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You might be better off doing your own head circumference. All heads are different, especially if you have thick/full hair! However, a 4 inch radius will give you a circumference of about 25 inches. My own head is about 23 inches around. You also need to take into account where you want the hat to sit (directly across your forehead vs sitting more towards the back of your head).
