6.0 Powerstroke; Fan Belt and Alternator
In this video I question the meaning of existence when battling the most complex fan shroud known to man. Yes, you guessed it a 6.0 Powerstroke with an outer fan shroud, inner electric viscous clutched fan, with an inner fan shroud behind all that.....Oh an its bolted to the motor!

Probably one of the best Wheel Horse videos I have come across! Having WH tractors since 1984 they aren’t too complicated until you get to the 520H wiring. Restored a 520H earlier this year and wiring was mostly intact. Sold to new owner who was going to use it for Shows. Last week bought a ‘96 520H and the wiring harness is there but safety switches have been bypassed and additional wires added with some just twisted together. Owner could not get it running so bought it for $150 with 60” deck. Have color coded wiring diagram but could quite figure how to get to relays without pulling engine. Your video was a tremendous help. Great job with taking the time to explain everything in detail. Kudos to you! Thanks….😊
Thanks! I am glad my video was helpful. Sometimes I get a little too detailed on my explanations, but it looks like this one was helpful! I still use the same 520 to mow and snow plow. Great deal on the one you found..... Thanks for watching and sharing! 👍😁
Unless ur going to keep doing that u may want to check defrost
This refrigerator was super sensitive to high humidity and didn't like high heat loads or too frequent door openings 🙄.....I fixed it; ie bought an LG on discount. The old one is at a single friend's house and it has been working well; No changes or repairs 1-1.5 years ago
Some jobs can be rough, glad you still got it fixed Andy 😎👍
Thanks Zane! I was seriously debating on leaving the old belt for a minute.... Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁

Yes, I have a couple though I'm not sure if they were very helpful in my work on Johnny #5. Send me a direct message on FB, Instagram or Gmail and I can try to file share them with your email address..... They are too big to email directly. Thanks for watching 👍😁
Hi ANDY, I would like to see the unedited version of this video, with sound. LOL ‼️
@@rammanjr88 I used some pretty interesting commentary, may have threw a wrench or two, and muttered some new combined versions of the classic F-bomb . In particular it became an adjective, noun and verb all on its own. Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
Is this a Marine Unit? I was under the impression these needed to be marine specific
No this is the automotive version, I believe Fitech sells one, or a different manufacturer, but the only difference I could tell from the specifications was a more waterproof ECM. It was double the price with a blue ECM. Thanks for watching. 👍😁
how long it took you i’m start this week
It took me two 12-14 hour days to complete the build. Add in a couple extra hours on top for rubber mulch and anchor installation. Organization is key, lay out all the pieces in order for a more efficient build. I didn't do this until day 2. Thanks for watching 👍😁
I was looking into getting one of these and getting a gauge for what to expect. I commend your patience because I can imagine how frustrating it would be to install a support post just to find out halfway through there are 1 inch off center bolt holes. At that point it starts looking like firewood. You made this project seem managable so as long as I stay organized I think I can get it done in a few days, thank you!
Yes, organization is key in this project. I laid out all the components in order on day 2 and it was a huge time saver. To finish the area I installed rubber mulch around the playset. It looks nice and helps cushion falls. Thanks for watching. You'll become your kids hero 👍😁
Maybe some of the best plain spoken, sensible translation of technical knowledge to user application I think I've ever heard also I think I would have pressure washed and degreased the deck before installing the new belt and doin' the Lock'nLube! Maybe enlighten me as to why you chose to install the belt first and then degrease, power wash? Yeah! Once she heats up that grease will start to flow into all the right spots. Can't get over how heavy duty the snow blade arm set up is. I'm definitely interested in a set up like that but not sure I'll find that exact set u under a toadstool any time soon but at least I'll know what to look for and that's half the battle. Mule drive and PTO is well explained and good video with some not too weird music. There is some weird music and a lot of videos. That 520 is a tank! It looks like you're going into shock & awe mode with them dandelions not standing a chance against that well serviced machine. Thanks for the great video enjoyed it much!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. It's difficult to find the right balance to please the masses. Some enjoy the extended explanations and others complain I talk too much 🙄. Pressure washing before the new belt would be ideal....I think my pressure washer needed serviced when this video was taken. Thanks for watching and sharing! 👍😁
Technically speaking it is variable speed 0-850. Turn it on, it goes 850 rpm. Turn it off, it goes zero rpm.
I think that is what they were trying to say, but it isn't correctly identified to me. 🙄 If you buy an electric motor it doesn't say 0-1125 rpm. It just says 1125 rpm. Thanks for watching and sharing 👍😁
I know. I’m with you. It was all sarcasm
You just broke the cap seal because that oil tank is a repurposed bottle designed to be sold filled and sealed, but that's fine, a custom made oil tank would have been more expensive.
Makes sense! Thanks for watching and sharing 👍😁
on anything less than .250 in I always clamp a bit of .500 to the job and put the mag base on that. magnets require mass otherwise you run the risk of lift off
Good idea! I was worried about its clamping power on the sideways test. Thanks for watching! 👍😁
Cheap but effective Andy 😎👍Can't beat that! 🔧
If this was a regular gig I would have a Milwaukee branded unit. I have used them before and they are niceeeeee! Also out of my price range by a large margin. Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
I'm impressed by the hole quality. No pushed out burrs on the backside and the hole is actually round. That bird nest of chips kind of scares me though, but it's hard to tell on video how close your hand is to it.
It impressed me as well.....I will give it a more thorough testing during the dump truck build. I don't think the shavings will cause too many issues. Thanks for watching! 👍😁
The slugs it makes would be good for patching other holes of its size, and yes I know a slower speed would be very helpful, As it is it gets the bit hot too quick.
That's why I was disappointed it didn't come as expected, but surprisingly it works pretty well at the higher speed. Time will tell how well the cutting edge holds up. Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
Sure would have saved me a lot of work installing snow plows and trailer hitches. I've been seeing more Vevor stuff being sent to TH-camrs and wondering how it holds up before I buy something. Thanks for posting Andy.
I wasn't lucky enough to get this one for free. The magnet power is something that may limit its abilities, but I'll see how this guy holds up. I hope to use it on all the frame drilling for the dump truck and Margaret. Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁
If you need one seal, you need them all. Age is probably yhe culprit and if that's the case then the others are close behind. Next time will be easir as all the breakdown procedure will be fresh in your mind. There are several other in the gland and if it starts leaking, thats where its coming from. You were sooo close. Next time. Congratulations on fixing the imediate problem though. Sometimes that's all it takes for who knows how long. Good job on what you did.
Thanks, I don't disagree.....I wanted a whole seal kit, but couldn't find one available at a reasonable price. I took a stab in the dark sourcing my own piston seals for $6 or $8. They wanted $180 per kit at the tractor dealer 🙄.....So far she's still working good! Thanks for watching 👍😬
@@FlatThunder I get it. It's my opinion that a seal that is designed for the purpose intended doesn't have to be the exact same profile as long as it fits the groove . Also, I think that not all rings are of the same importance. IE, a wear ring might have a lot of life left in it as opposed to a gland seal ring. The seal ring is of course the much more important ring. A good catalog is extremely helpfull. Hercules has an excellent one. It's free. Good on you for fixing your own. It says a lot about your character.
@@edstimator1 I'll have to check out Hercules catalog. I have Martin Fluid Power's catalog. They are good, but don't always describe all the seal dimensions. 👍😁

Only 10!? I'm pretty happy with the end product. Thanks for watching! 👍😁
What about the low oil shut off switch, it will not start with low oil level, to save your engine. ?
To be honest, I never looked into a low oil switch on this unit. I think it only has a low oil pressure dummy light, but it's been a while since I looked at the diagram.
My wheel horse 212-6 has one.
been 🐝 there before
I hate the fact that I had to wrestle these bolts out, but was happy with beeswax as a lube helper! Thanks for watching 👍😁
rofl the wax does nothing, the heat is what frees the bolt
Don't knock it till you try it.... This was a suggested alternative to using traditional penetrating lube and this was my first attempt. I like it and will try it again on seized fasteners. I like that it's not flammable and isn't a chemical based product that burns off 😁. Bacon grease is also a great cutting lube, give it a shot!
it was just the heat of the welder
The weld heated the bolt up, but the fastener needed to cool before extracting it. Weld the nut, cool the fastener, re-heat housing and lube it with beeswax. Melting the wax helped cool the fastener and lubricate it at the same time. Try it sometime 👍
The BTUs are the same for heating and cooling. You are pushing more air, so the cooling air temp will be several degrees warmer and the heating air temperature will be several degrees colder. The room temperatures will be better controlled in the distant rooms if the duct work is sized for the extra CFM supply. Some duct work has too much restriction for the extra air to reach the end of the duct rooms. Instead, more air will come out of the vents close to the blower. Depending on where the tstat is, the extra air may satisfy the tstat quicker.
What you gonna do about the other screw? I am rebuilding a Suzuki intruder 1400 1996 and I’m having a hella time , the carbs had air adjustment screws stuck, broke one. Drilled it out, it’s a mess. Idk if I can even get this bike running
The other two screws were not doing anything when I bought the unit. Might have to drill them out. Could get fancy with a threaded bushing or just thru bolt n nut those 2. Carbs are interesting little animals. My last stuck float seat was extracted by heating, cooling with WD repetitively and ultimately saved via a left handed drill bit. Patience is key on these jobs though I frequently lack that skill.... Best of luck on the repair! 👍😁
@@FlatThunder yeah I tried all that for weeks got the the point I got mad enough and drilled it out lol. Thank you
@@malachismith1561 sometimes it's your only option.....Buy a set of left handed drill bits. When I have to drill out bolts I use those and sometimes they magically spin out. Cheers 👍😁
I have 2013 ford fusion se I bought from the auction whenever I started the vehicle white cloudy smoke 💨 comes out the exhaust pipe for 15 seconds then stop what’s issue causing that now?
I'm no expert, but in my opinion it could be a couple different things. Leaky or worn valve seals will cause a small amount of oil to leak into the cylinders. This can generate a small amount of white smoke at startup. Second is water burning off. Condensation can be present in the exhaust or engine and it burns off quickly after startup. More serious issues are if it is burning off engine coolant from a damaged component within the engine. Also if it's a turbo the turbo bearings / seals could be leaking oil back into the exhaust. Lots of options for the culprit. I would closely monitor the engine fluids, possibly run a compression check and inspect the exhaust with the engine off to see if it's leaking any fluid other than water condensate. Best of luck on the repair and thanks for watching! 👍😁
Excellent job bro
Thank you! Thanks for watching! 👍😁
More flow = more thermal transfer ie. More heat from the furnace, more cool from the AC
I live in a very humid state and lowered the direct drive blower motor speed in order to make the A/C dehumidify the house. Now I am under 50% RH. Also keep in mind that when you raise the fan speed it's like running your hand across a candle flame quickly. Less heat is removed.
Good points! The CFM increase / blower speed increase was required for this unit to push the cold air out the registers more. It worked before the swap, but the thermostat could barely make temp. The unit would run too much and the cool air was trickling out of the vents and settling at floor level. The increased flow pushes the cool air up and then it settles down. Heat mode might require a speed adjustment..... Thanks for watching and sharing! 👍😁
More flow = more thermal transfer ie. More heat from the furnace, more cool from the AC
@@marstedt Take your hand and move it quickly across a candle flame and then slowly. Which is going to transfer the most heat to your hand? In my area there are a lot of older water to air AC units. If the water coming out is too hot the flow is too low. If the water is not even warm the flow is too high. Rule of thumb is a nice warm water coming out is taking away the most heat efficiently.
you wrote: "...it's like running your hand across a candle flame quickly. Less heat is removed." That's not true or correct. The _HEAT_ flow is the same. The *TEMPERATURE* change is less.
@@PaulPassarelli Correct. The air will have less temperature change.
just found your video . i just bought one of these units i liked using the father inlaws for years but it was time to get my own. so many videos out there but none that have this carb on it what years would this unit be ? good video
Thanks! The tag should tell us, but going off memory I think it's 98-99 vintage. Thanks for watching! 👍😁
@@FlatThunder that new eh wow
But can your heater to heat the air at the higher CFM?
Good question! I will test the higher air flow when we switch from cooling to heat mode. I'll have a smaller pulley and the shorter belt prepared if a change is required. Thanks for watching! 👍😁
The answer is yes. The more airflow the more thermal transfer.
@@marstedt My concern was a reduction in rise and causing it to take longer to heat causing longer run cycles.
@@billygilbert7911 A "reduction in rise"?
@@marstedt With the increased air flow across the element if it was rated for a 10 degree temperature increase at 400 cfm, and the cfm was increased to 500 the rise should be less than 10 right? I'm probably using the wrong terminology.
Nice work Andy! 😎👍

Hi i have a 1992 kawasaki bayou 300 4x4 have bran new parts electric start dont work and now the relay keeps blowing the fuse and bran new spark plug doesn't seem to be sparkling can u help me out thanks
If it is blowing fuses, something is hooked up incorrectly and or you have some shorted wires in the system. Check the plug at the handle bars, those like to corrode and make for a poor connection. The rest is troubleshooting the wiring. A lack of spark is likely from the wiring issue, but could be the ignition box, 'black magic box'. These frequently die from jump starting the unit with a large battery. I hope you get it going again! Thanks for watching 👍😁
I'm in the middle of changing my vacuum pump on my 6 l e series van, Vans are a different animal just to get the fan and stator out I had to pull a whole bunch of stuff, pull the intake elbow and I can see a big bulbous clump of soot on the egr valve gues ive got to change that now too.

I have the same motor, won’t turn and prop won’t turn. Any ideas? I know it’s an old video but thanks!
I think it is a direct drive, but it's been awhile.... If the motor isn't seized I would inspect the prop connection. It could have sheared a key or wrapped something up binding it to the housing. If that isn't part of the issue I would guess it overheated or was ran without the proper oil mixture; consequently melting the piston into the rings/bore. Thanks for watching and best of luck on the repair! 👍😁
@@FlatThunder I think I might of broke it. I placed a drill on the top nut to try to break it free, no it spins and everything is free- but feel like something isn’t right. I get spark, get fuel, but maybe a broke a connector rod?
@@D.Trider take the spark plug out, put your thumb over the hole and pull it. You should feel compression..... All it needs is fuel spark and compression to make it go go. If you have all three then the mix / settings might be off on your levers / knobs
