There's more to cycling than onions.
I think it's important to remember to enjoy the simple experience of bicycling in a time when it's far too easy to get caught up in industry drama or over glorification of competition.
TLDR = don't forget to stop and smell the onions.

Mornin' Josh and all! I like what billywood says. Even if biking doesn't take us out of the rat race, it'll at least get some of the rats outta the race on a given day. I liken it to cross-country skiing where you can get lost on the trails and listen to the silence...or maybe encounter granny and grampy in their church clothes swishing along or maybe some folks kitted out in race gear...and everyone else between. It's all good. We're all out there for a re-set and a smile. (I'll add that I dig bike wrenching as much as I do riding. Josh, your basement shop...mesmerising. I wasn't sure if I was gonna find my way outta there...a good thing.)

Well said young man! I've recently been on a big cycling tour with friends, where we were bashing out the miles each day to get to the next destination within a limited timescale. Whilst I enjoyed the trip overall, I would have much preferred a slower pace to take in more of the landscape we were travelling through. When cycling alone at my own pace I get totally immersed in my surroundings, I not only see the world around me, I hear it, smell it and feel it in my legs and lungs. The more I cycle the less I enjoy travelling by car. I've seen lots of interesting things along the roads I've cycled on, but never an onion by a telegraph pole. I shall make that my next quest...🤣 Great thought provoking video Josh, good to see you back...👍🏻

Guys, what Josh is trying to explain is that Cycling allows you to use your conscious, not subconscious. Those who are not riding for performance but riding for the joy of cycling slows down time. Allows you to enjoy the settings around you. The things that don't blend in. The things that stand out. The aromas, the views, and everything we take for granted. The joy of cycling humbles you. Takes you out of the rat race and allows the simple pleasures that you would typically miss from a vehicle to stand out. There's more to bikes than performance and burning calories. There's more to life than going to work and paying your bills just to survive the day. Slow down and take the time to smell the roses. Enjoy the simple pleasures from the saddle of a cruise on the 2s. Life is short, and this world will be if you're always in a hurry to get to nowhere fast. Love your freedom. Embrace your surroundings. Pass on gratitude. Love every second of your day because you're not promised tomorrow nor the next 5 minutes! Whoever reads this, I wish you a day of great pleasures and for you to enjoy the essence of time. You can always replace money. You can always get over love and replace that, but you can't ever, and I mean ever, replace time that you lost! Get on your bike or just go for a walk. Say hi to a neighbor and smile. Breath fresh air. Appreciate everything around you! Great message my friend. I knew you were going to make a video about this after our conversation yesterday. Great minds think alike! Lol!

I came to a sliding stop at a red light, muttering impatient mutters, until I looked down next to the telephone pole and in the grass was a dollar bill. a real dollar bill. I could've gone to buy an onion, but I didn't. There's this one older couple who sit on their front porch, at least every time I ride past their house. The first time I waved and spoke, "Hello." and waved. they just looked. Now, they wave first and sometimes shout out, "Nice Day!" or "Be Careful!" Riding the bike, as you observed becomes a profound moment for the rider, and for the people who have someone to wave at them, maybe the only person all day, who has waved at them. I hope you find another onion, or the old man who is about at the end of his rope and you wave at him and he realizes, "I am someone! That guy on the bike waved at ME." Thanks Josh. This last year I've seen two dead crows in the street. I had never seen a dead crow before. I saw a dead tortoise with his shell cracked in the middle from side to side. Most food that I see is still with it's fast food wrapping or bag spilled in the street. I do get to interact with various people. Some Sundays I get to smell all kinds of delicious Mexican food while traveling through certain neighborhoods. I find various tools. Funny, my friend and I were out before sunrise doing our normal Tuesday "30" miler (it never is 30, it's always more), and we crossed paths with a stray dog in a small town, saw several hawks, and I always spot change in random spots. We even stopped at a privately owned coffee shop for a spell to chat about bikes, like we hadn't discussed them already during the ride. Another thing about riding that we did this morning is that you can explore roads much easier to see where they go, especially when cutting through neighborhoods. Plus, the beginning of the sunrise was much more enjoyable than it would have been in a car.

I ride with a group of people who are afraid of roads and ride exclusively on busy rail-trails. Funny thing is that there is some kind of mishap on 50% of those rides. Things like head on collisions or near misses from people riding side by side coning in the opposite direction who aren’t paying attention, oblivious pedestrians, dogs, people in the middle of the group slamming on their brakes. I keep telling them that I feel safer riding on Pennsylvania back country roads where you only encounter one car every 5 minutes or so. They all think I’m crazy lol.

Dude! Thanks for taking me along on your ride this Sunday morning! I'm a central PA native, and this looks familiar, the sights, sounds. I can practically smell the fields and flowers! Those early morning, casual summer rides, exploring new territory, it's so freeing and peaceful. I live in SoCal now, and love to ride the coast, but watching your video makes me miss what we call "God's Country".

Western Penn and Eastern Ohio both have great roads like this. I love them.

I can't argue with you. I'd like to plan a covered bridge tour just across the line from where this ride took place.

Hi Mark. I’ll bet you’ve got your fair share of deserted country roads out there.

Thanks so much. Take Route 6 west of Albion. Turn south on Barney road - at the township building. The route is Barney Road south. Turn right and head west on Jerusalem road. Turn right on beaver center blacktop (I think it’s Griffey road. Doesn’t matter, just turn right at the t bone.) Turn right and head east on Tracy keepville road and you’ve done it.

I live in the same type of area. Ridden in PA many times, primarily the Allegheny Passage. Funny, I ride the same type of bike as you, only mine is a Bianchi. Us old guys with our old bikes enjoy ourselves in peace and quiet.
