Hello! My name is Josh, and I love dreaming (obsessing) about my next new car! I've purchased 22 during the past 44 years and I'm creating this channel to share some of my experiences and tips on all things new car which have mostly been European and British.
You'll like this channel if you've ever spent hours with a car configurator online - looking at the colors and carefully selecting just the right options. I'll be creating videos about the FUN side of car buying - the dreaming, the ordering, factory tours, European delivery, and more.
Please subscribe and comment to let me know what you love, what you want to see more of, and how I can make this channel a place where we can learn and share.

Ordering Your INEOS Grenadier QUARTERMASTER - Options Explained

Ordering Your INEOS Grenadier QUARTERMASTER - Options Explained
I have yet to see a color that looks bad on the Grenadier. I liked Scottish White better than expected (kind of a creamy white, what I expected Magic Mushroom to look like) and found Magic Mushroom looked more brownish-white. Your Blue/white is an instant classic combo!
You're right that the colors all look good - and even better in person! I picked the color that I would have wanted a toy car to be if I were still a kid... I think the contrast roof really sets it apart. Thanks for your comments.
Been very interested with the Grenadier and saw a couple on display. Really obsessed with the look. Really love it. Seen and read lots of reviews. I own a couple of Mercedes. But having seen your videos, I would think those "quirks" and bugs on the electronics and software would drive me bat-sht crazy. I live in the east coast and dealing with hot/cold temperature swings on its AC would make me drive it into a wall.
Thanks for posting a comment. My suggestion is that you get behind the wheel of a Grenadier and try it out for yourself on a long test drive (I took mine out for almost 2 hours) and be sure to experience the AC system to see if it behaves or mis-behaves, and decide if you still fancy the Grenadier at all if certain things were updated. My main point is that this is the first version and you can continue to enjoy your current vehicles and keep an eye on how things progress as I am sure that they will over time. It just may not be up to what you need just yet - but I think you'll be a happy bunny if you ever get the opportunity to own one.
@MyAutomobileObsession Yes. I'm more of a techie so I like everything working and connected perfectly. I do wireless android on my cars for a good 5 years now and never had a problem unless there's no cell signal. I'm waiting for them to work out the kinks and I'll be watching more long term reviews 😀
I've had mine for 3 months now and love it for just about everything. I don't use it as an off-roader but do use it heavily. Great thoughts and ideas on improvements.
Glad to hear that you're enjoying your Grenadier. Thanks for commenting!
Hello from Connecticut. I daily drive my Grenadier Fieldmaster and love it. I get stopped all the time and asked the same questions of it’s a Defender or Electric or in general - what is it. I added the Fox steering stabilizer, Eibach 2.5” lift and 34” wheels and its beast next to a Wrangler. Also added a ton of other upgrades I eventually want to make a shot video on but bottom line is it’s been great and very happy my decision. I came from a Cadillac Escalade which my wife drives and had zero issue with the transition. My boys also love it and think it’s cooler from any other thing else on the road.
Thanks for your comments - It's great to hear from the far side of the country! I've had a few people make mention of the Fox stabilizer and I'm going to follow up. I can't do anything that would make my Grenadier taller as it won't fit in my building garage. I understand about your kids thinking the Grenadier is cool. My nephews call it my Rhino hunting truck...
Josh, Thanks for another great video. If you haven't swapped out your front steering stabilizer for the Fox, I would highly recommend it. I bought one when I ordered mine, but didn't put it on because after taking possession of my truck, I didn't have an issue with the steering. However, I went ahead and put it on because I had it. It made a big difference and I like the truck that much more now. Anyone that hasn't made that change, should try it! My dealer said they are swapping them on almost every vehicle now.
Thanks for the tip. I'll look into it!
I have the non-adjustable from Fox and it was $400 installed by my dealer.
The Grenadier is the best car (and 4WD) I have ever owned. I love it as a daily driver. However, I now find myself looking for a little 4 pot Japanese city car. As I don’t want to burn the Grenadier out in 15 years. Off road, it is dependable, and will extract from those sticky solo situations. The more I experience it, the more I love it.
I agree with you that there are a few, very few instances where a small little car would be more suited to some city stuff, but I'm sure you'll be able to keep your Grenadier running great for many years to come. Thanks for commenting.
I’m glad you’re having fun, although some of the stuff you’re ‘complaining’ about looks like First World Problems to us Defender owners!
I'm guessing that you're referring to the OG Defender and not the modern day version. Yes, we people love to have our gripes but I feel they did a really good job for the most part at creating a fun to drive and fun to look at vehicle on their first attempt. Thanks for your comments!
@ I’m referring to the Defender (Puma) not the modern day Pretender…
At 12:00 in you can watch the steering wheel self center but i have watched a bunch of other videos about the steering be so terrible you have to steer the car. I looked to me that it self centered just fine?
Thanks for your comment. I re-watched and also noted around 14:20 you can see that the wheel really does come back on its own - just not fully. I assist it just a little. To me, this is a non-issue after I drove the car for the first 15 minutes. I have seen some other videos where people overplay the loose and minimal steering response and I guess you can get that to happen if you drive it like that, but I am in the "steering is different, but perfectly OK" category.
I actually leave the house and go for a drive in mine for pure pleasure almost daily.
Thanks for sharing this - it's great to hear how much you're enjoying your Grenadier and it also is a big help to those who are trying to decide if the Grenadier is right for them.
I agree with pretty much everything you've said. The Grenadier was built for a particular purpose and those of us that are using it as a daily driver in an urban environment are not using it for that purpose, so you have to expect some "eccentricities" in the vehicle and adapt your driving style accordingly. Yesterday I had to drive down I-95 to the dealer in Fort Lauderdale to have them clear a time-based (not mileage-based) maintenance message on the center panel. Traffic was heavy, sometimes stop & go, sometimes 75 mph, as it was rush hour in Palm Beach and Lauderdale, but that BMW turbo-six and those big Bembo brakes handled everything perfectly. I am amazed at how quickly a heavy vehicle like this can accelerate up an onramp to merge with fast-moving traffic, or execute a passing maneuver on a two-lane road. My one recommendation is, however, at highway speeds and heavy traffic, keep both hands on the wheel. Oh, by the way, at the dealership, everyone loved the white Grenadier Bonnet Decals your suggested - I got the Stars & Stripes motif for the Lambda.
Thanks for your comments, and also about the Grenadier bonnet decal - I didn't know if anybody would find that interesting, so thanks for letting me know! Glad to hear you're enjoying your Grenadier - I know we put up with a few things but it's all worth it for the enjoyment we get.
why buy a grenadier when you can buy a LX570? It’s bold brash and lovable. if you drive it daily for a month you notice it’s better than RR and Bentley SUVs. I wouldnt trust a British brand or other European brand. It has good deals since less people want them. There are nearly no good deals on LX 570 since people hunt for them
You ask a good question, but what I learned about myself is that I have an affinity for European automobiles. My very first car was a new Toyota Celica back in 1977 and I worked really hard to earn and save for it. That car lasted me all the way through graduate school and it was truly fun and reliable. But I was ready for something else, and began selecting cars for other factors, and the japan makes while always top quality, seemed to engineer out the excitement in my opinion as I moved towards wanting sportier things. So, it's preference and historical perspective lead me away and I haven't looked back. I never even consider them - for better or worse - as cars aren't about having the best as much as having the best for me - which isn't always the most practical choice. Thanks for your comment.
I feel you get robbed. When I sold my car, I compared Lexus dealers to carmax , carvana. I let them bid and compete and finally carmax bought mine for 32000$. after a couple of weeks it was listed for sale at 36000$. so they made 4000$. They fixed some dings and paint I guess maybe profit margin is 2500$. Carvana ripped u off and they would rip the buyer off again by charging very high interest rates, on top of the profit they made on you.
Thanks for your comment. Well, one of the reasons that I sold to Carvana was it was quick, (mostly) easy, and I didn't have to become involved with the subsequent owner. I gave them a car that was ready to sell, but it was also 8 years old and was coming up on scheduled maintenance that I preferred to let them sort. I don't think you make the max on selling your used car unless you do it privately by yourself and I live in a big town where the risks of fraud and scams make private party selling a big undertaking with a less certain outcome. So, I chose the path that I did, and chose not to fret about it. But you're right, I could have gotten more.
What you don’t get or understand is that caravan’s demographic isn’t for those who want titles. They appeal to the monthly payment crowd,. Why don’t you get that? 🤔
Thanks for your comment. I hate car payments and do whatever to pay off early and own the car outright. It never occurred to me that they are focusing on a different demographic. However, I'm not certain that I understand how that impacts my selling a car to Carvana (or Carmax).
In Minnesota, I haven’t seen one in person yet. Would love to test drive one. Looks amazing. I’ve always had 4Runners and love those too.
It would be interesting to hear your impressions after driving one and comparing to 4Runners. I last test drove one (too) many years ago, but back then it was very truck-y and had a lot of body roll. I don't think I can give a comparison other than to say I think you'll be impressed with the ride quality of the Grenadier. Let's hope they open a dealer in your area soon as that makes the decision much easier! Thanks for commenting.
Interesting commentary. Most of what I have seen so far is about off roading and over landing so a commentary about the Grenadier as a daily drive gives a day to day impression of what the vehicle is like to live with. Think I could easily live with it, but then again I had and still have Land Rovers. I have had a short test drive of one.
Thanks for your comments. I have personally owned 6 Land Rovers (3 RR's, 2 RR Sports, 1 Discovery) and I loved them all to bits. I just began to feel that the brand I supported for all those years was leaving me in the dust in favor of the glitzy upmarket rather than the can-do-all rugged yet classy crowd. I won't ever fault you for owning a Land Rover, but I got off the bus when they became the soccer-mom and Kardashian vehicle of choice as it began to feel like a fashion accessory (at least where I live) and I don't buy cars to impress others - I buy them to impress me. The Grenadier has the credibility and offers what my very first Range Rover did back when people looked at it and couldn't understand why I would buy such a thing. You'll give up many creature comforts switching to a Grenadier that the Land Rovers now have and take for granted, but there's a certain feeling you get when driving the Grenadier that is unmatched by any current Land Rover product. Enjoy the process of researching and getting whatever you ultimately choose!
I bought two and have a Quartermaster on order. Steering, turn sooner and faster than normal to get around those u turns and into parking spots. Ineos suggest High tire, sorry tyre, pressures as the BFG’s are 10 ply and Bridgestones were specifically designed for the GVWR of the Grenadier. Of course you can run less and it is easy to reset the warning. Pounded mine off of the Rocks in the Owyhee’s and road tripped on the interstate to Seattle and am extremely happy with the performance, comfort and even fuel economy having come from a 200 series Land Cruiser. I’d own a Grenadier in every Color if I could. Awesome truck and excellent video. Thanks
Thanks for your comments. I'm looking into my tire pressure - which had just kicked off right before I began recording.
@You can find a pressure you prefer somewhere under that identified pressure, with in reason, to achieve even wear and ride comfort, on or off road, then reset your warning by going into vehicle settings find the menu, can’t remember what it’s called, select reset and the pressure your tires are at at reset will be the new baseline and you won’t receive any warning unless it’s over or below the new set pressure, whatever that is a couple of PSI over or under.
red neck car hahhah always on highway
Thanks for commenting. I suppose you're right. I'll wear the badge proudly...
One should always get what they like looking at and don't worry about what it costs. It works for marriage.......
LOL - It sounds like you've learned a few life lessons along the way. I like how you think! Thanks for your comment.
How is tire pressure low at 42psi?
You ask a good question! The warning just came on before I started recording and I was a bit puzzled by it, but haven't looked into it yet. I do know that the standard tire pressure is on the high end for these tires, so that's not the surprising part. It's the fact that it's only one pound less than the other back tire.
It looks a whole lot of fun! As a car person you eventually realise most vehicles can be disputed as something you don't really 'need'. Drive what makes you happy!
Agreed! No car is perfect, and we just need to find the one that is perfect for us. Thanks for your comments.
I truly appreciate the content you are putting out. I plan on purchasing one in the spring. I strongly considered buying one by the end of this year but I would like for them to work out a few things first. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for your comments. Half the fun of getting a Grenadier is that wait and the excitement that builds as you wait for the one being built just for you. Just be sure to get what you want when you finally do. I find that I enjoy the cars that I special order much more than by selecting one off of a dealer lot. So here's looking forward with you!
@@MyAutomobileObsession Thanks so much for your reply. I would use mine as a daily driver and I can appreciate how you explain to us the audience that it is a daily driver. I currently have a Jeep (a fake one) Renegade and I know it will be a lot larger going to the IG. Note: I went from a Mini to the Jeep about 8 years ago and that felt like that was a huge difference. I can only imagine how it was for you when you went from a Mini to the IG. Thank you.
Well rounded video and agree with your assessment of the Grenadier, its a fine vehicle, covered 16,000mls in mine now diesel straight 6, on and off-road, love it. From Steve near Chester England 🏴 where the Roman's once lived. Atb.😊.
Thanks, Steve. I appreciate hearing from Grenadier owners around the world! It's great to hear that you have been having a great experience with your Grenadier - I know that it helps those who are still evaluating and deciding, so thanks for taking the time to comment.
@MyAutomobileObsession Thankyou indeed 👍.
I really enjoy your Grenadier reviews. It’s worth listening to you, you’re doing a great job. You’re a great ambassador for Ineos without talking people into things they do not want. Like a good friend. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Germany
Thank you for your comments. I appreciate your kind words. I just returned from a month away in Europe - mostly in Germany. They were just setting up Christmas markets as I as leaving. Happy Holidays!
At least you acknowledge you bought a dedicated off-road suv for on-road driving.
Thanks for your comment. It's not the first time I've bought off-road dedicated vehicles, either. I just thought it was appropriate to clarify as I do get off-road questions and I just have a different use-case, but still want to have the fun of driving a big truck!
Good review. I had mine for a few months and sold it. There are things I loved about it and didn't love about it (ADAS, return to center, constant corrections when driving at speed, and a few others) but the main reason I solid it was access to a dealer. 4.5 hours was just too far for updates, service, etc.
I 100% agree that access to dealer is more important than some people realize, I hear from many who resist buying as they want more local support and to not drive 4 hours to go and collect a Grenadier and contemplate service needs. I have come to learn that all new cars have implemented ADAS that has become a mandated requirement and only fault INEOS in the implementation of some of these features. I now know that other new cars have similar annoyances and you can no longer buy a car that doesn't have these features in some shape or form. Thanks for commenting and sorry to hear that you sold your Grenadier, but certainly understand your reasoning.
Could it be a daily driver..no, unless it's the only vehicle you have then yes.🙄
Agreed - It's my only vehicle currently (by choice) as I live in a building with 3 parking spaces that are tandem and it's a pain if you want to take out the car parked behind the others. So I live with just one and really that's all I need. If I had another car it would be my MINI as the two vehicles would cover the gamut of the things I want in a car. Thanks for your comment!
How many gallons is the gas tank?
It's 24 US Gallons. Not big enough, in my opinion. I like a range of 400+ miles, and the Grenadier with it's MPG is in the low to mid 300's. A minor disappointment, but it is what it is. Thanks for the question.
There is steering stops on the front axle basically a nut and a bolt and I’ve heard and seen on a TH-cam video while these guys were off roading they unscrew that bolt remove the nut and screw the bolt in all the way until it stops which apparently increases your turning radius a lot, it’s a simple thing to do, I am considering a Grenadier in the future and if I get one that would be one of the first things I do. At least it’s worth a try but apparently the guy said it helps a lot.
I have heard miscellaneous comments referring to this and will investigate as it's really my only unfixable (so far) gripe. I don't usually modify, but will check this out. Thank you for commenting!
For what it costs, shouldn't it offer, I dunno.. more? It seems like you could get a LOT of other cars for this amount of money, and I'm really curious what else you might have considered? Or if you were buying today, what else would you look at? I did test drive one of these, but I just couldn't get past the steering.
Yes, and yes. I think we all wanted more, but I chose the Grenadier from a list of one. I had test driven the LR Defender when it first came out during the pandemic, but my housewife sister bought one a year ago and that signaled something to me that JLR had jumped the shark and became less off-road rugged and more urban jungle rugged. I'm a little strange in that I decide what I want not 100% based on comparison shopping, but rather the excitement I feel when I see the vehicle and the anticipated fun I will have while owning it. So, when I first saw the Grenadier prototype in 2020, I was in. Steering (although odd) didn't matter. It was still an experience that I wanted to have. If I were shopping today, I'd still not be looking at anything electric (too impractical for me), but my next car is likely to be something sportier as I enjoy mixing things up. Thanks for your comments!
Yes in fact is also my daily driver … and I live in west GTA Toronto Canada , and to be honest I’ve seen more cyber trucks and rivians that Grenadier so far … it is kind of weird feeling being almost the only one driving this thing here in the roads … but I really love the truck … 👍
Thanks for commenting. Glad to hear that you're enjoying your Grenadier and happy to hear from Canada as I know there are only 2 dealers up there so far.
With a lot daily city and highway driving have you had to replace a windshield yet? Do you have protection film installed?
No new windshield, don't have protection film either - I guess I'm old-school when it comes to PPF. Thanks for putting this on my radar!
It looks like a high tire pressure warning. Did you reset after running at 36 LBS?
I agree. I was unaware for the first few months about the need to reset the tire pressure. I was inflating, I was deflating, it was driving me nuts. Then I discovered the pressure reset in the infotainment settings. Can’t remember where in the menu precisely. Took a couple minutes.
This warning went off literally as I went out to record - so I haven't done anything yet. Your comment clearly lets me know that I have something to clear and it won't clear itself. I appreciate hearing from viewers with experience on things I have yet to see, so thanks for commenting!
Great video as always. 14,000 miles on a 2024 Trialmaster. Love every minute of it. Quirky? Yup. Daily? Definitely. Enjoy the adventure my friends!
Thanks for your comments. It's great hearing from those with many more miles than me report about their (enduring) enjoyment of their Grenadier.
Wow another my 6 months with a grenadier.
I know, I'm a little late to the party... I get a lot of questions about problems and reliability which makes doing a video like this as time progresses relevant. Others who have owned much longer than me chime in with their successes (or woes), and I think it's helpful for those who are still on the sidelines. Thanks for commenting.
I’ve been daily driving my grenadier for the last year (took delivery on 12/20/23), plus some weekend overlanding adventures. I couldn’t be happier with it. It now has almost 15k miles on the clock. Still has me smiling. Great videos - keep em coming!
Thanks for your comments! I appreciate hearing from seasoned owners and I know that viewers do too as it proves that the Grenadier is holding up quite well in the eyes of those who drive them.
10,000 miles and agree! Speaking to the audio, this is my first “truck” and a step away from German sport wagons with premium sound - Harmon Kardon, Burrmeister, Sennheiser - because I got tired of destroying rims on winter potholes (you’re right, it’s a thing) and I’m happy with the sound quality. I do miss the adaptive volume control you get with the German cars because the Grenadier with A/T tires and wind noise could benefit from that feature. I’d say the other daily driver drawback is typically a daily driver is a shared car and the lack of seat/mirror/steering column memory means I’m almost always getting into somebody else’s car. Granted, an IP68 driver seat would be an expensive option but I’d have sprung for it! Hopefully when they start offering V8 and portal axels an IP68 memory system won’t see such an expensive option.
Thanks for your comments. We certainly do make a few trade-offs when choosing a Grenadier, but like you, I'm enjoying mine and fortunate that I'm the only driver as I know that memory seats save loads of frustration when others drive. They actually launched the portal axel Grenadier at the LA Auto show, and it sounds like they will do small batch production, but better to get from the factory than in aftermarket. I've not heard anything about memory seats so far as they seem destined to keep the area to be something you can rinse out with a hose, which does not compute when we contemplate electric seat motors. Time will tell... Glad to hear that you're enjoying your Grenadier!
Do you have to go to dealer for software updates?
Thanks for asking. Yes, they have to perform the updates as there is no over-the-air capability in the Grenadier.
Another Great Video. On a few occasions, my Carplay doesn't connect. Usually when I connect to the "Fav" to shut off the tones. The "Carplay" tab disappears. I find no way of connecting with out pulling over and shut the car and open the door, and begin like you just got into the car. I hope Ineos addresses this problem. This should not happen on on any car.
Thanks for sharing this, Lou. I had it happen once and just let it go. But recently has happened a couple more times, so will be investigating a little further as you are right, it should not be happening.
Spot on with your review and observations. Agree with virtually every word. I use my Grenadier as a daily driver. If I lived in town, it might start to wear on me a little. Living in the countryside I can’t get enough of being in this vehicle. Sorted out my HVAC using the 3rd bleed procedure. Still quirky in comparison to others.
Thanks for your comment - I'll look into the 3rd bleed procedure. The HVAC basically works, but certainly has a mind of its own!
What about the loud power steering whine?
That is something I personally have never experienced in 18 months of ownership.
Silent on mine
Thanks for the comment - I do hear this whine and frankly it is not heard when you're inside the Grenadier cab - I didn't realize the extra sound I was hearing was coming from the power steering for the first couple of months. It's a noise in the engine compartment - just like the engine. Hasn't really been a bother any more than hearing the engine.
My 97 Land Cruiser steers like a Porsche 911 compares to the Ig. Would be cool for you to test drive the Lexus gx g wagon and Land Rover defender for comparo.
Great comment. Sometimes it's appropriate to compare and in this case I was laser focused on getting a Grenadier, so I drove nothing else. I have test driven the new LR Defender when it came out, no problems there - great road manners. But the Grenadier steering is not a bother to me except for the turning radius. The return to center "issue" is not really an issue after you spend 15 minutes with the Grenadier.
That’s because your ‘97 cruiser has independent front suspension.
Sad that it is too high to fit into a standard North American garage with a tent on top
I wondered about this, what’s the total height
Thanks for the question. Total height without any roof rack is 80" (6' 8")
So you want an off road vehicle, without it being an off road vehicle.
Great video Thanks for sharing your insight
Thanks for your comment.
Live for today
Thanks for that!
I really enjoy your videos, you are a great presenter 👍🏻
Thanks for your comment - much appreciated!
i would like to trade my '22 Frontier for this vehicle but those monthly payments would kill me.
Sadly, it is a downside. I hate car payments and am working on a strategy to pay mine off early in '25. If you're in the U.S., they are offering some pretty good finance deals to move the unsold units, but that didn't help me when I bought mine. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Yeah, all chips in your looking at 86k.
Had mine since 12/29/2023. It's my primary drive. My 2015 F-150 pickup has been demoted. My Grenadier will turn b 18,000 miles today. I love this thing. Folks that have ridden with me comment how smooth the ride is.
Thanks for commenting. The smooth ride was one of the first things I noticed. I came from a sports suspension car and it "complained" about every bump in the road. The Grenadier pleasantly ignores them. Great to hear that your's is going strong after almost a year.
I sold my car to Carvana and they sold it 2 weeks later for $2000 more than they paid me so it was a 2k profit less expenses for them...
It's somehow fun to be able to see what they list and sell your turned in car for as they do it so quickly. I think most people don't follow up once they sell to Carvana, but as you have seen it's pretty easy to find it. If I recall, I got an e-mail advertising mine to me as I had been looking at other MINI cars on their site. To this day they still think I want to buy another MINI and I get an e-mail almost every day. Thanks for commenting.
I had a very good experience with Carvana. I had a leased Prius and the dealer wanted about $1900 to turn it in!!!! Went to Carvana and they offered me $2000 OVER what the dealer said it was worth.. So there was a 4k spread, yes? Smooth transaction and walked out with a check. I saw my car on Carvana for sale two weeks later for $2000 over what they gave me and it sold in one week...
Thanks for posting a comment. People appreciate hearing from those who actually experienced the process.
All that interior light will play havoc on your vision when driving on dark country roads
Very good point! I have since learned that there are 2 settings for the infotainment - 1 with the headlights on and the other when they're off. That allowed me to turn the brightness down significantly when driving at night. Thanks for commenting.
