Hello! My name is Josh, and I love dreaming (obsessing) about my next new car! I've purchased 22 during the past 44 years and I'm creating this channel to share some of my experiences and tips on all things new car which have mostly been European and British.
You'll like this channel if you've ever spent hours with a car configurator online - looking at the colors and carefully selecting just the right options. I'll be creating videos about the FUN side of car buying - the dreaming, the ordering, factory tours, European delivery, and more.
Please subscribe and comment to let me know what you love, what you want to see more of, and how I can make this channel a place where we can learn and share.

I Spent 4 Months with an INEOS Grenadier and Here's What I Learned
Greetings! Well, it's been 4 months since I got my INEOS Grenadier and in this video, I update you on some of the things I've learned that may help you in deciding if the Grenadier may be right for you.
I discuss some of the features I've gotten used to, and some that I thought would be problematic that didn't really prove to be.
After recording I realized that I was wearing a shirt that I bought from my local dealer, however this is not a sponsored video. They're good guys, but don't have influence over my opinions...
Please join in with your comments, and please subscribe for more updates on my obsession with the Grenadier and other autos of my liking. Thanks!

Hi, loved the video. My local installer said it would cost $1020 to have the wolf box installed as you have done. That seems really expensive. Would you mind sharing what your install cost was?
Thanks for the question. I'm happy to share this privately, but as we have 50% of viewers outside of the U.S., it's not helpful in this space. Please send me an e-mail and I'll respond promptly. You can find my e-mail address from youtube on a desktop browser (doesn't seem to work on a mobile device), clicking on my channel, then the more... link and my contact e-mail should be shown for you. If you're in the U.S., I would agree that you are correct about the installation seeming a little high, but please confirm in your message to me that the installer is including ALL the parts needed as well as the special 67designs bracket as that is the only way your installer could possibly justify the price. In the meanwhile, I'll do the math on my install as I bought all the parts and just paid for the install. That way I'll have an answer ready for you.
I am in the US and the quote was for labor only. I will send you an email. Thanks for the help.
90k msrp is a tough sell
Thanks for your comment. I think our original expectation was around $60K, but that was in 2020 when they briefly mentioned that number. As time went by they kept quiet until they were ready to open the order books, and there was a lot of sticker shock. Of course they will argue that the starting price is $73K, but that is not the model of choice for just about anyone. It will be interesting to see how this progresses....
You opened my eyes to the shale blue - that is gorgeous. The colours I would consider are devil’s red or eldoret blue. I think the red - I love a risk! Could you tell us more about the origins of the names of the colours?
Great question! I'm currently traveling until Thanksgiving and don't have access to all of my notes on such things, but I'll accept that challenge and get more detail on the origins of the names as I've heard the story on many, but want to be complete/correct in my reply. Stay tuned...
@@MyAutomobileObsessionthanks so much for all the information you share!
Such a useful video- thank you! I like the Eldoret blue and the devil red. I would like to configure the car so I can sleep in the back if I go on a long distance trip in the wild. Do you have any advice. I think Black Sheep can provide a solution but it seems like something the company should offer this as an option. Like you I am obsessed with the vehicle- it is so beautiful and I have watched many videos. Next, a test drive!
Thanks for the comments! Eldoret blue with a white contrast roof was my other choice and Britannia blue was a leap of faith as the configurator didn't make it look nearly as great as it does in person. Not so with the Eldoret - the configurator is pretty accurate, but it does look a little better in person. Now, the Devil Red - what a great color! I may well have gone for it if it would have been available for MY 24 as I really love red cars and this is a stunner in the photos that I've seen. You can't go wrong with either. Now, as for the sleeping solution I don't have any direct knowledge other than to say that you will need to figure out a solution as the rear seats do not fold flat at all, and you'd need something to mitigate that. If you're waiting for your Grenadier, just keep your eyes out for new companies that pop up with solutions. The best place to begin would be with companies who make good solutions for other similar vehicles - they tend to get their hands on a Grenadier and soon after design a product to expand their offerings. Since you have a little time on your hands, I predict that other solutions will present. Also, be sure to look outside of the U.S. as the Grenadier has been in the UK longer, and Australia also tends to come up with some great stuff. All of this adds to the fun of getting a Grenadier. Good luck!
It's not a matter of making it cheaper and taking things away. it's a matter of developing the technologies in house and saving on the cost of using partnerships for components of the cars. The argument was they needed to do it this way so that they can meet the aggressive time line. But I think the issues with some of the electrical could be associated with different components not working perfectly seamlessly with each other. In the end the inflated prices and every partner needing to make a profit on their end passes the inflated price to the buyer. Some people will justify the value is there and maybe the best thing you can get out of the factory. While others will opt for a more custom build and still save money. Once all the enthusiast get their grenadier. It's going to be interesting to see how they will sell. as it will be difficult considering all the retro inspired options coming out from major companies that will come in at half the cost. As well as an increase in outdoor vehicles. Sure some of them are not going to be as capable but capable enough for most.
Great points! Thanks for the comment. It is indeed an interesting time where Grenadier is certainly not the only game in town. It is certainly a unicorn of sorts and I think that adds to the attraction of many enthusiasts. Time will tell how this story plays out, but as you mention, other players are hard at work too.
Great video!
Thanks for the comment!
Dude, as a wannabe Ineos owner-I really enjoy your content. Very interested in one, but have had concerns about the AC and some other issues often discussed. Currently have a Denali, but we test drove the Ineos and was mighty impressed. Local dealer has been vague about EOY discounts, but is offering something very nonbinary like 2.5k or so apparently. I still don’t know why you need triple lockers if you have a center lock-maybe you can explain that to us more ordinary SUV drivers?
Thanks for the question and comments. As a fellow ordinary SUV driver, you only need the center (standard) differential as the front and rear are only going to help you off-road and possibly at resale time. I got the Fieldmaster which doesn't come with front and rear lockers and did not add them as I know that even if I go off-road it would be light duty as I was never the guy to take my cars rock climbing. So, when looking for the appropriate Grenadier for you, consider how you'll use it and then try to find one with the features that will match up to that. The Trialmasters (with the raised air intake as telltale) all have the front and rear lockers as standard, but some of the cars on dealer lots are hybrids (Fieldmaster with some of the Trialmaster add or vice versa) as you could get one of the packs and then add the options from the other. The only thing I didn't get and slightly regret (cause I rarely use) was the trailer hitch - which I have since learned is not easy to add on afterwards. Now as to EOY pricing - 2 schools of thought. Yes, there is supply, but the factory is in shut down, so no new inventory until mid to late 2025. I don't know if dealers are trying to preserve inventory and get their price, or are as concerned about selling 24's when there are no 25's on the horizon. It depends on if you want to wait. Anyway, sorry for the long answer - I hope it helps!
I’m the 1000th subscriber 😂😂😂 keep on. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 love your content.
Howdy and Thanks! It's been a long while, so thanks for putting the icing on the cake. It's great to hear that you're enjoying the channel. I'll do my best to keep it up!
4 more to 1,000 If you were at 999, I would have subscribed 🙃
LOL - so close! It's been a very slow build similar to watching paint dry. Now that I'm close, I'm paying more attention to it and less wondering if and now wondering when. Thanks for your comment!
Oh snap! I didn’t know it can support say and night brightness settings! 😮 thanks
Thanks for your comment - I'm glad you learned something. Set it one way with the headlights turned off, then turn them on, and you can set them again and those two settings will flip back and forth according to the lights being switched on. If you use the auto headlight feature, note that you can't make the lights on setting be too dim, as the auto feature sometimes comes on during the day if you go under a bridge, etc., which may make the screen too dim once you come out from that bridge before the lights go back off. You'll find a balance, but just wanted to point that out.
Our local dealer probably has at least 70 on the lot-and they’ve been there for many months. I’ve inquired about EOY discounts. So far, not much. But hold tight
Thanks for adding this. I know this is happening, but when we zoom in on alot of dealer inventories, we find that they are bare bones base models that the true fans aren't so interested in. They will sell (eventually) to buyers who want the coolness of a Grenadier, but how the pricing plays out will be interesting to see. I think dealers are still focusing on brand awareness and bringing new people to the brand who aren't focused as much on what appears to be excess inventory. But you're right about the end of year approaching, so that may change things - conversely, the factory shutdown and delay of the MY 25's re-supplying the inventory may give them a reason to hold out for price. We shall see! Thanks for commenting.
After testing, reading, learning, watching about a Grenadier I made a decision - bought Toyota LC79.
Thanks for commenting. We can't buy those in the U.S., so you are fortunate to have this option. It should serve you well!
Check out Diabolical Inc for a sweet rear storage area drawers.
I love the way my Grenadier looks.........but that's about it! I am so frustrated with all the warnings, all the time. Come to find out, we have to take it to the dealer (200 miles away) to have it annually serviced at a cost of $660 to keep the warranty in effect! We have had it for 8 months, has 2000 miles.....which means we will also need to take it back at 12 months for the regular warranty service. Glad I found your channel, Thank you, this information makes me feel, just a little better, not a lot, about my purchase!
Thanks for commenting. I think some of these issues are a function of a car/vehicle sold in 2024 - required service, required warnings, many sounds. We focus a lot on INEOS, but I have learned that other new cars suffer from some (or all) of these same annoyances. So, in the end we got a great looking vehicle that you don't see driving beside you on the roadway. It's unique and I'll keep reminding myself of that every time the overspeed warning goes off and my grumpy face appears!
The constant warning alarms are annoying and designed to be so. I had the same experience (and alarm tone) in my pre divorce ex- BMW X1. You have to remember that the Grenadier is built in France and every year the all encompassing, soul crushing European European bureaucratic monster, tries to remove every aspect of pleasure from the lives of us EU citizens and especially drivers (15 minute cities, mandatory car sharing, own nothing and be happy policies are well on the way here). The nagging alarms are symptomatic of power mad, nanny state thinking. RIP Peanut and Fred. 😢
You had me at soul crushing...! I agree that many of the complaints we have can actually be found in any new vehicle and that's disappointing. In the US, we're a slight step behind the EU but basically taking on the same regulations (not sure if that may change with the political weather), so I can only be frustrated in how INEOS implemented some of these annoying sounds and ticks as I do think they could meet compliance without being so harsh. Thanks for commenting!
All good points, I decided to not buy a Grenadier because of the too high-end finishes to be practical to use as a work course every day and also the disappointment of not having a manual version available. Instead, I purchased a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser 78 Troop Carrier with the V8 diesel and Manual transmission and extremely glad I went this way because it’s a much more basic vehicle without all the bells and whistles going off all the time.
Good points. I know that the utility versions of the Grenadier are not sold in the US and depending on your country you might have had that commercial version option. The lack of the manual option is either economics due to a low volume, or some regulation that we might not even know of. The take-up rate for the manual transmission has been in steady decline for years - perhaps they felt it was not worth offering. The bells and whistles are unfortunate byproduct of federal regulation and I only hold INEOS responsible in how they implemented some of the bells as I think they didn't need to be so harsh. Thanks for commenting. I enjoy hearing about the decisions of others who follow the Grenadier.
@ in New Zealand we have the option of the two seater Grenadier plus the option of Petrol or Diesel power trains. I was following the Grenadier from the beginning when they were going to build a more commercial version with a manual transmission but I now have learned that to pass the European test standards etc they had to add all the nonsense instead making it more a SUV instead of a serious offroad 4x4 workhorse unfortunately. I’m just very lucky that I live in a country that’s free where we can still buy brand-new Toyota 70 series vehicles. Keep up with great videos .
@@overland_adventure_nz I had a feeling you weren't in the states - other countries got more options with the Grenadier even if you weren't able to get one because they were up against too many regulations in the end. One of the things I like doing when I visit a foreign country is see what cars are on offer that we simply don't get over here. I'm always amazed when I see things (and Toyota is a great example) that would sell like hotcakes if they were allowed into the country.
You made a smart decision. I did the same and bought V8 79 series. I've tested a Grenadier.... Ineos it's only about show off and city-style off-road.
@ so true
I habe my Grenadier 1 year and 20000km in Austria on travel in europe, the best decision i ever made. Full agreement with your video❤
Thanks for commenting! It's people like you with great experiences that help others who are still deciding.
Not for me. Very expensive . Cheaper alternatives with equally as good, if not beter pedigrees.
Thanks for your comment. The good news is that there really are a lot of good choices for us to pick from. I hope you have your eye on something great!
Do you know if there has been any movement on issuing shop service manuals for the Grenadier ?. Do you think BMW are reluctant to allow Ineos to issue shop repair manuals and procedures for the engine and transmission ?
The latest I heard from my local Service Manager was that this is seeming more and more like an over-promised and not really deliverable item for the Grenadier. The original dream was to have a vehicle that could be worked on by a reasonably adept mechanic with the manuals nearby. What we ended up with was a unicorn with a BMW engine and ZF transmission that isn't something that can be worked on without specialized tools and proprietary equipment. In essence, making the manuals a moot point in many instances. (I'm paraphrasing what I heard, but it makes sense to me). So, it remains to be seen if an A to Z manual will ever become available, and instead perhaps sub-sections on the items that truly could be worked upon by the adept lay mechanic. Again, I have no real inside info, so we shall see what becomes of this.
@@MyAutomobileObsession Thanks for your responses on the BMW Engine/Transmission & Manual questions. Much appreciated.
Given that the engine and transmission are BMW, if necessary (an emergency or breakdown far from an Ineos dealer, foreign country where there are no Ineos dealers, etc) do you know if BMW dealers will perform service or repair on these components ?. I would not expect BMW to perform warranty repairs, but it would be nice to know I can use them where an Ineos dealer is not an option.😢
This is all still in its infancy, and I don't know the current state. I have heard of INEOS dealers collecting and trucking in vehicles for repair, however I don't know that there's so many Grenadiers on the road that this is an everyday occurrence for them to address. Best strategy would be to run the scenario by what would be your selling dealer and see what plans they have in place. I do know that there has been talk of Bosch certified repair, and BMW, etc. but don't know if that was ever formalized for the US. I guess it's a "stay tuned" situation.
If you are primarily an on road driver or an experienced Off road driver that can avoid full steering lock in certain situations, there is an easy way to improve the turning radius of the Grenadier, see agile off road.
Thanks for the tip - I'll investigate.
After 6 months I ordered a Quartermaster. After 8 months I bought a seconds wagon and would buy one in every color if I could.
I love this comment! There is certainly something about the Grenadier that gets under your skin. You've obviously experienced that! Thanks for commenting.
I have 2,500 miles on my Grenadier and agree with your second video review. Every thing you have said is helpful and accurate.
Thanks for your comments. I find that the voices of other owners really helps those who are considering the Grenadier. We, of course, are out having fun already...
Appreciate the videos! Don't have a Grenadier but I've been scoping around and seeing if I should trade in my Nissan Frontier and purchase this beast. Subbed!
Thank you for your comment. It's easier to make a decision now that dealers have them available to test. Hopefully, you don't live too far away. If you do drive, call and book your test drive rather than showing up. You can better arrange for a longer drive with more variety which will better help in making your decision. Good luck!
Go for it! You won't regret it. Josh said it well....there are a few little things, but overall...amazing!
Thank you for the informative videos. They really helped me through my decision making process.
Thanks for your comment. Much appreciated.
I’m going to see them this week! Have been driving Landcruisers for the last 25 years. Went to look at bronco’s, love the outside, not the inside. Waited for the new Landcruiser, really a prado, but don’t like it either. My other option is to import a landcruiser from Japan.
I sold two 200 Series Land Cruisers and now have two Grenadiers and a Quartermaster on order. I swore I would never sell our 2021 Land Cruiser but having the Grenadier I just assume throw rocks at the Land Cruiser.
Thanks for your comment - it will be interesting to hear your impressions once you get behind the wheel. Landcruisers are tried and true, but the Grenadier has a special character to it that you might really enjoy.
Appreciating your content & greetings from Canada. Considering ordering a 1924 edition. I’ve owned several Land Rovers including a 99’ Td5 so the drawbacks often mentioned don’t really phase me….dealer is 2.5 hrs away so just need to get there for a test drive 👌🏻
Hello to you in Canada! - I've been an occasional visitor to Vancouver and Toronto (mainly in the 80's for work), but always got a special vibe from the folks there. The 1924 edition looks nice, and if you've got one reserved it will be a rare bird. I mention to those who plan to buy from a faraway dealer to make it an overnight trip where on day 1 you do a long test drive to see if there is anything that must be addressed before you accept delivery on day 2. Mine had a couple little things that they sorted, but would have been a major inconvenience had I taken delivery and then had to wait to take it back in. But if you're just going to decide if you'd like it - consider it a fun day out and make sure the dealer is waiting for you with a great plan to demonstrate putting the Grenadier through its paces. I find those who get invested in the features and how things work get the most enjoyment. So good luck and stay warm up north!

Can you get your stereo volume any higher that #14? It doesn't seem high enough when on the open roads. Salesman said in 2025 the price will go up 7K.
Hi Lou - sorry if this is a duplicate reply, but I can't see that my original posted. I do not know of any way to boost the standard audio volume above 14, and guessing that you'd need to upgrade the audio system to get anything more.
@@MyAutomobileObsession I was able to find a menue in settings. I increased the sound up 66%. Its very loud, at least it is working correctly. I love the car, I was lucky to get it in 6 months.
Hi, did you sort your passenger airbag light settings ? I’m almost 18 months into my grenadier journey and loving it more and more .
I didn't really sort it as much as I installed the Wolfbox mirror that covers it up so that it's not so bright. There are settings to disable it, but I didn't really want to take that step. I'm glad that you're happy with your Grenadier - that's what I am hoping (expecting) to hear from owners. Thanks for commenting.
Where are the settings to disable the airbag lights? And does it disable just the airbag indicator or other things as well? Thanks.
After 4 months and 4,000 miles, I too, love my grenny. Thanks Josh, appreciate your candor and your thoughtful insight.
Thanks for the comment. Glad you're having a good experience too!
So many examples of automotive companies getting into EVs and then losing big time.
So true. It's been a really tough year for all car companies, and the European ones are quaking in their boots to see how a new political administration will impact their way forward. At the moment, the EU is tightening the screws even more than the US, but with the push back from consumers on the waning desire for EVs, it's certainly gotten messy. Thanks for your comments!
I would love to buy one but I live in Nashville, TN. I don’t want to drive 4 hours to get one in Georgia. Plus, I am worried if I were to have issues then I would have to make multiple trips.
I like the shale blue, inky black, or sela green.
All good choices. My favorite is the Sela Green out of those three, but if you can, you should make a trip to a dealer now that Grenadiers exist for you to see up close. The configurator doesn't convey the entire essence of some of the colors and seeing them up close or seeing them in videos or photos online will help to solidify your choice. Good luck!
I really appreciate you putting this channel together. Your videos are so much better than a generic car reviewer review. I’ve made my mind up. I’m getting one.
Thanks for your comments. Much appreciated! I'm glad that you're finding some things helpful. The Grenadier is pretty special, and it's amazing that INEOS pulled this whole thing together. You'll enjoy it once you get it. Looking forward to hearing about your experiences.
Apples to apples would have been to get both quotes online. I've sold cars to Carmax, Carvana and the late Vroom. Had loans on 2 of the sales, no big deal. Good video. Thx.
You're right about getting a quote online for both. I didn't originally think anybody would be interested in my selling off my car and just started documenting what I was doing, so the process was unscientific. Thanks for your comments!
Probably half of these problems could be mitigated if the car was used in the environment it was designed for not the city im sure
You make a valid point - thanks for commenting.
Hi Josh, this is great. I see this is California. Do you have a recommend of where I can have this install work done in SoCal?
Happy to share, but cannot post in a comment. You can find my e-mail address on my channel page and clicking on the "more..." link about my channel. This works from a desktop browser and apparently the mobile does not have it. Please send me an e-mail and I will send you my installers contact details. He is in north county of San Diego.
To "permanently" deactivate the "Start-Stop Thing" just keep the button pressed (e.g. by adding a small transparent piece of plastic over the button using the existing 4 screws that pushes the button). Btw it's a regulatory thing to safe fuel and it's deactivated in offroad mode.
Thanks for your comment. I figured that re-setting the Auto Start-Stop was based in a regulation, so thanks for your workaround suggestion.
Absolutely great video. I picked up the USB adaptor with light and will order the cargo management system. Keep up the great content!
Thanks for your comment. I think the Cargo Management System is a great accessory for taming that large space - you'll be glad that you got it.
Great video
Thank you!
The upper tray for the centre console. Someone on the forum has a 3D print file and I got my son to print me one for a few cents
Thanks for adding this. I did see this, but saw a few versions as it was revised and updated a few months back, and if you don't have access to a 3D printer and supplies, isn't inexpensive. I thought I would try the Amazon tray that I got, and felt that it was a good solution. But you are right, other options - which may cost less - do exist.
Thank you very much for your posts. I enjoy watching everyone of them. I too purchased my grenadier from Sierra Ineos Grenedier. I would like to let you know about what happens if you lose a key. I recently replaced the key I lost and the dealership charged $429.60 for second key programming and cutting. Plus key itself cost $622.23. Of course they also charge tax on top of that. The total cost was $1051.83 for me to replace a lost key. Unacceptably too expensive. I think every potential owner needs to know about this. I can provide you images of the invoice if necessary. I think this is another topic for you to explore in the future.
Thanks for your comment. You are actually the 2nd person I have heard who has experienced this. The other was closer to $1200 (not like that's going to make you feel any better....). I don't think people realize how expensive and complicated it is when a key is lost because of the coding that has to be done along with the standard key cut and of course you pay the bill for every step. So, thanks again for sharing and let it serve as a lesson that losing a key is, in fact, a big deal. I'm sorry that you had to experience this and couldn't begin to justify the exorbitant price they charge for this.
Your videos are always super helpful! Have you or anyone here found any sleep systems for sleeping in the back of the Grenadier?
This is a good question. I think one may exist, but it would be a platform of sorts that took the folding seats into account as the cargo space alone isn't big enough for anybody to lie flat, and the seats don't fold flat so there's an 8" rise between the two areas. So whatever the solution would be, it would have to take that into account. We'll see if anybody else posts a comment. Thanks for yours!
I made a sleep space by: 1. Removing the bottom cushion of the two thirds rear seat (only held by three fasteners). 2. Folding the back of the two thirds rear seat forward so that it is flat. 3. Placing two seven inch high flat top storage bins end to end in the rear cargo compartment (almost three feet long in total). 4. Stacking camping gear into gap between the the back of the driver’s seat and the front of the now folded rear seatback until it was at the same height as the flat seatback. 5. Topping everything with a six foot long Exped mattress.
Thanks for the very useful video!
Thank you for letting me know. Much appreciated.
how can people afford this, everybody is crying high food prices,
You make a good point! The price of the Grenadier was originally supposed to start at $59K and was $73K by the time if became available - that's a lot for any car. I hear from alot of viewers who were disappointed because they were hoping to get one and the price was just too much to justify. But apparently, some folks can. Thanks for your comment.
how can people afford these trucks,
Indeed. (see my other reply). Thanks for posting!
SUV is about $127 ,000 USD as shown. To tweak it up in basic areas as you have shown makes me wonder if it is overpriced or under designed and overpriced ?
Well that's the question of the day! It's really easy to choose options to push the price into the stratosphere, then you can always choose the Arcane Works Detour which begins at $164K US - fancy paint colors and awesome leather trim. But I got the plain Jane model (Fieldmaster) and have been pretty happy with it. The uniqueness makes up for some of those design oversights. Thanks for your comments!
Thank you for all the work you put into this! I definitely see some storage organization solutions that I’m going to pick up.
Thanks for your comment. More and more great solutions have become available for the Grenadier, and I'm glad that you saw a few things that might help.
Wow! That was SUPER helpful! Thank you!
Thanks for taking the time to let me know. Much appreciated.
