I just took a walk today with the 50mm Summilux-M on my SL2-S. Putting an M lens on the SL system, it feels like s different way of shooting, it breathes new life into both the lens and the camera. The body is heavier and bulkier than the M, but the handgrip really helps handle a bigger lens such as the 50 or 75. And focus assist helps get more shots in focus especially if using a wider aperture.
It can't take the place of an M body, because I still like the compact form factor of the M11, and the additional focus assist is not really needed with a 35 or 28 at smaller aperture.

Couldn’t agree more. An SL2-S with M lenses is a joy to use, especially with lenses faster than F2. Also the joystick on the SL system is so much better when zooming in for critical focus. But an M body with a 35 Summicron, 👌🏻

Very nice, as soon as I saw that L-shaped birdwatching hole with the tree on the other side, I knew you would go for it. Looking forward to the comparison video!

Couldn't resist :-). That L -shot is an iPhone RAW by the way. The 50mm was too tight for that composition.

Greetings Bernd, great video. Great setting. Great images. And were it not for the mosquitoes, I would envy the outing.😇 I also own the SL2-S along with the Leica M-L adapter. The combo is a marriage made in Heaven and I love the images they produce. But I also own the M10 Monochrome. And yes, that’s a 40 vs 24 megapixel sensor, but to my eye, the M on M is much crisper. Will love to hear your findings of the M10 P images when compared to the SL2-S. Be Blessed, Doc Chaps

Hello Doc Chaps! Thanks for your feedback, really appreciate it ✌🏻. The M monochrome experience is also on my bucket list. Removing the colour filter apparently does incredible things for ISO performance and contrast tonality as well (which could explain that extra crispy pop). The M10-P head-to-head with the SL-2 S should be quite fun. That video is on the shortlist, so stay tuned 😊. Cheers

@@berndvandecruys hi, how are your M10-P vs SL2-S findings after 6 months? I am curious as I am considering a switch from M to SL2-S.

@@kubowich Hello! I only had the SL2-S for a couple of weeks back then. Just to get a first experience on how it handles M lenses. I will be getting another SL2-S on loan for a couple of weeks soon and I plan on doing a video on the very question you asked. Which camera is best for people that like M lenses, the M10-P or the SL2-S. I will focus on that, so stay tuned for that one. If there are any specific questions you would like to see answered, feel free to share 🙂. Cheers!

Having used an M35 Summicron on both the SL2s and an M10P I can honestly say the Sl2/s experience is fantastic especially if you like to use the viewfinder and wear glasses. The added benefit of using longer lenses and a greater variety of lenses on the SL2/s is also a benefit.

Those are indeed very big pros for the SL system, although I do think a 35 cron is ideal for the M system. Thanks for sharing your experience ✌🏻

Hello! Thanks for your video. One question about your adapter ring : is it good ? I just buy a SL2 S and i hesitate between the very expensive Leica ring, the Novoflex and this one (cheaper). I think there is no différence with manual lens. Thanks for your respons.

    • @berndvandecruys

The big difference with the Leica one and the Urth one that I have is the 6 bit coding sensor (so that the body can identify the lens and identify the aperture value + better exposure). But thanks to the EVF, you can make sure exposure is fine. Build quality, the Urth one is just fine imo. The Leica one will probably fit just a bit more snug, but that’s just an assumption. But for 1/10th of the price, it’s worth a try and see if it fits your shooting style (will you primarily use M lenses or native L lenses?). No idea if the Novoflex has the 6 bit coding sensor or not. Hope this helps! In any case, the SL2-S with M lenses is loads of fun!

@@berndvandecruys thanks for your response. I will use essentially M lens want I have a M10 too. So may be the Leica one is better but 400€ 😧

@@fredericpousset7567 agree, the Leica one is better, but 10x better… probably not. I think you’ll be fine with the Urth one.

Question: How much better are the R lenses on the SL2-S for doing video, compared to an SL or TL lens?

    • @berndvandecruys
      @berndvandecruys  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Very good question indeed. I have not yet been able to do a comparison test, but from footage I have seen so far the R lenses produce are very nice look. A nice balance of sharpness, contrast and colours. It all depends on what look you’re after. And of course knowing that these lenses are quite old, they are harder to come by in mint condition. Scarcity plays a role here as well imo.
But I surely want to test it out in the future 🙂

Hello, Bern hope all is well with you. I have the same setup and I truly love it it makes the camera ultra lightweight. my lens is the 24-70 Leica f2.8 is my swiss knife. I also have the summilux 50 and a 21mm that i like to mount of my camera. cheers. I also do photography using my leica equipment.

Hi Ramon! Thanks for reaching out. Always nice to meet other Leica photographers. That’s a nice setup you have there. Do you have experience with the M system and lenses?

Really like how the cow picture turned out. Didn't expect it to be that nice. Worth that final detour I would say (and those last extra bites ;)).
