The REAL Reason Working For Free Hurts You
มุมมอง 7114 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
If you're working for free, we assume two things. The first is that you don't have much experience in production. When we're hiring, we're looking for help with the tasks that are overwhelming our team. We're not looking to spend time training people. More importantly, when we're on shoots (particularly fashion walks and events) and there are folks on the production who are working for free, th...
Why Your Show Reel Isn"t Working
มุมมอง 3321 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
If your portfolio or show reel isn't getting the response you're hoping for, It could be because you aren't understanding what producers are actually looking for when they watch your reel. The conventional wisdom is that a show reel or portfolio should be a collection of your biggest, best, baddest and boldest work. But, when we're hiring, we aren't watching show reels to be entertained or to b...
The Questions Freelancers Forget To Ask
มุมมอง 15314 วันที่ผ่านมา
If you’re a filmmaker at the start of your career, there’s a huge question you might have forgotten to ask yourself: What is the difference between your career and your business? Simply put, your career is always in the room with you. If you run your business correctly, though, it can not only function without you being in the room but grow. Furthermore, if you can organize your career and your...

I see soo much reviews with overheating problem. Do you have any issues?
I have not had overheating issues but I tend to work in cooler environments. That said, the fan is something formidable on the Duet. It doesn't bother me too much when using it but I would totally understand if someone heard it and said it had to come out of their pipeline.
This is manually copying the colouring of one clip on other clips, isn't there anyway to group them so when you apply one colouring it auto applies to the rest? edit: found it, select clips in colour page, right click, add into a new group, then go up and select "group pre clip"
Pinning this on. Thank you for the question and the answer.
Nah
Except for you. You're the one who's allowed to do your own taxes.
I don't get ist - I usually don't show any gear at all in my reel. II mean yes - if there is a DJI mic-brick slam dunk in the shot, but anything else? Are you taking about a BTS reel?
Thank you for the question. Reels frequently come in with a resume or CV that fills in some of those technical gaps. Also, a lot of the reels we watch are from DPs and that information is often included in a lower third along with project title and director. Finally, there is some intuition involved. If you watch enough reels, you get a sense for scale of production pretty reliably. As you get more sensitive to production scales, you realize that the equipment follows the scale pretty consistently. And, if we aren't sure, we inquire.
It was so easy to get freelance clients back in the day, I literally spent the first 15 years of my career basically ignoring marketing and business. Then several more at an in-house gig. I was just coasting along honing my craft. Now I'm skilled, but old, and trying to break away from the in-hosue stuff. Find myself being passed up by younger designers that focused on marketing maybe even more than their design skills. lol. What a life
Thanks for the comment. The reality is that I'm aging out of a lot of gigs and that's part of the TH-cam channel activity. I'm trying to position myself more publicly as a producer than as a shooter/editor and this seems like a rational direction to try to go. First, writing the essays helps me to put words to a lot of shapeless thoughts that have been floating around in my head. Second, doing it on a public platform seems like a good way to grow my presence as a producer. The marketing side of things never spoke to me and I haven't enjoyed the change in trends where ones ability to run a social media campaign supersedes their ability to do the job. So, I'm right there with you thinking, "I spend the last two decades getting really good at my job and now I'm supposed to post 3 video stories a week and 5 reels if I want to keep my job?" Thank you for commenting. I really appreciate it.
Great video, helpful and to the point, appreciate it
Thank you! Brevity = soul/wit!

YW!
Question for Ya, is this L-20 has an onboard graph EQ instead of an external graph EQ. When Using the L-20 for Live Performance, would the setup the same as your normal live mixer? Thanks
you should update this video. Lots of things going on in 3d world
Thank you for watching and commenting! I think we gave that one away to a fellow hobbyist. We are looking into 3d and really want to get into it. But, good golly, is it expensive to get a 3D pipeline up and running. It's on our minds and hopefully we can start working in 3D in earnest soon. 🙂
I am on my lunch break! Great to see this great teamwork. I am still looking for my team 😅 Who needs someone to take over their social media and marketing 👊🏻 So you can continue to work on your true job and don't get lost in the social media rabbit hole 🔥
Your timing couldn't be better. Do you still have my email?
@@JJKoesterGreat ! Not sure, I can drop an email through the website mentioned in the description.
@JJKoester I could use the email from the website in the description?
@@leylafashion That should work...? I don't get in touch with myself very often so I haven't tested it. 🙂
@@JJKoesterThe email has been sent! 😅
Hi , I m happy to watch your vedio and subscribed too. I m from India i use 500 watt emp. For power to mixer. Should I use same for L20 or buy other one you recommend ? I m waiting for your advise.
Solid advice here, Jesse. Yes to all of the above! If you wouldn't mind doing a rap video on good file naming habits that would be great! Wait a minute ... You've covered that, too! 🎬♥️👍
Thank you so much for the kind words! If all that file naming has you confident that you're ready to start a podcast, we've got you: th-cam.com/video/XB-2YXlEkRM/w-d-xo.html
Davinci Resolve is like a hitting a brick wall; it's a seemingly impassable obstacle, but eventually, it all comes tumbling down. I usually can figure things out, but for whatever reason, Resolve stumped me for the longest time... but once it clicks, it clicks, and I'm left wondering why I was ever confused in the first place...
It all makes sense, but it's their sense. Not yours. 🙂
So the best way is using headphones output with H4N or H6 device?
Wow, very nice! This seems to work better than Plasti-Dip! I see you did the tops, but not in the verticals. I'm thinking from my experience with Plasti-Dip of maybe doing all inner vertical edges with Plasti-Dip and then the tops and bottoms and outer edges with Flex Seal like you did. I did all the things I should do to show appreciation for the vid. 😁 Thanks for that, lol - gave us a chuckle, as we watch FB pull posts that look like they're suggesting people "do the things..." - great way of putting it. We may borrow that!
Came for the short answer 🙏
So incredibly informative. Been wanting to switch labs based on my own experiences and this was so helpful!
Thank you for the kind words! Where can we see what you're shooting on film? We're always keen to watch what others are cooking up!
Nice one,Subscribed. Please keep it comin...
That's the plan! I hope you don't mind the long content because we do that as well. :-)
Just what I needed (used the first one) thank you. Jesse!
Tried to follow your technique, but somehow I screwed up and lost the color grade settings that I was trying to apply to other clips. There has to be a fail safe way to do this.
that was very helpfull, thanks 😊😊
Hi in the app there are not gain control ??? And the volume of monitor out don’t save in the scenes???
You rock cali man
This is great!
We use it all the time! Thank you for the comment!
My Gostream Duet only sends mono audio sound when am stream. Please is there a way to adjust that to stereo? If yes , how do I do it? Thanks
We are having the same problem! Is your mono signal only coming out of one channel with the other silent or is it the same signal being fed to both ears?
thank you
You're welcome!
Perhaps I need to get another SD card but it’s new and formatted
Hey bud. Love your videos!!! I just purchased the L20. I was using the L12 before with no issues. I’m having two problems. 1. I can only record in audio interface mode but I’m not using a computer. When I try to set the back mode switch to card reader it says Check! Change mode and restart. I’ve been stuck with no success, restarting etc. I formatted the SD card that worked with the L12 to start fresh. Any suggestions? Second problem is I’m not hearing any effects on my vocal mic.
That’s true you’re supposed to have it so unless something was broken beforehand I hope you have a return policy supposed to be anywhere else it’s because it has a specific job otherwise the time d.a.w. which is all the way to the left or if you’re facing the back of the very right
I really like that you are quick and to the point. But you would benefit from verbalizing both Mac and PC keyboard commands.
really appreciate this kind of tutorial where you dont waste our time! Thanks
This is great. I have a question though. When you playback one of the videos recorded onboard, is the capability there to be able to run playback at a slower rate?
I'm so happy to have found out about this thing. I'm a technician at a theatre with very minor switching needs, such as switching one screen from a presentation to a camera and back. So far, we've been abusing our Aja Kumo 3232 matrix for this, the result of which is not satisfying to say the least. I was looking at the Atem Mini, but this seems like a much better option for our use as I was worried about how having to choose between SDI and HDMI would affect things. An output from a playback PC is HDMI while the cameras are SDI (or maybe NDI in the future) so the duet functionality is a big deal. We do have a small collection of BM micro converters, but if I can avoid a potential source of errors and latency in my signal path, I do. I also like the more traditional layout. I feel like the T-Bar is the safer option for all those times there just isn't enough rehearsal time to get everything happening on stage to perfection. We also train apprentices and although the Atem Mini is by no means an uncommon device, I still think they can get more benefit from working with something that's laid out just like the big ones. My only worry is the ecosystem, but to be real, the only BM stuff we currently have is the microconverters so it'll be absolutely fine.
I wish Blackmagic could see this comment. Their product vertical is fantastic except for that huge HDMI-to-SDI gap in their product line. If you were shooting on Blackmagic cameras, cutting on an ATEM ISO and finishing in Resolve, I'd be more concerned about leaving the ecosystem. The ATEM ties a glass-to-glass pipeline like that together really well but I wouldn't stress too much about swapping an ATEM for a Go-Stream in other workflows.
This device is for live streaming, or live shows. The ATEM Mini is for recording a show, editing it, and fixing it to be perfect to then post somewhere. Totally different uses here.
I would say that the ATEM ISO (Mini or Extreme) cuts that distinction but the ATEM Mini is pretty similar to the GoStream.
Can you record to SD and a DAW at the same time?
Short, to the point and no BS whatsoever!!!! Thank you so much for making life easier!
Excellent technique, thx
Thank you! I hope it was useful for you and your team!
Commenting for engagement, thankyou for the quick tutorial.
Very much appreciated. The comments really help the channel more than 99% of TH-cam viewers understand. It's really appreciated.
Why I can't do that? When I select apply grade, nothing changes and my first graded footage turn into LOG and all the nodes I've been created disappear. Why?
Thankyou so much. clearly explained...
Do you only seal the top, or did you go all the way down the insides of the pockets?
thanks for jumping right to the point. means a lot :)
awsome info
For more than 1k price, this zoom lack of loopback function. It's shame as low price audio interface with only 2 input, 2 output have this
Thank you for the OBS hack!!! because I was going crazy trying to figure out, why am I only getting Track 1& 2
Awesome video. Can you have 4 outputs at the same time live? Quadrant style.
