Thanks so much for this video. I just started learning about editing audio with Adobe Audition because I'm working on my podcast. Your video helped me understand more about Spectral frequency analysis and how to use it to remove static noise from my recording.

That makes me so happy to hear! If you're used to seeing video as a wave file, watch the SF feed is like going from a 2-D signal to a 3D image. There's so much more information about the audio on display in SF than in wave readouts.

Good one Jesse! This is a use-case for spectral analysis that can benefit anyone building or upgrading their system. Now I want to do some testing on mine!
A small correction in terminology, what was referred to as echos on the sine waves are actually overtones and undertones or harmonic ghosts appearing at exact upper and lower multiples of the root frequency. These are attributable to system and headphone amplifier nonlinearities, and the quality of the A>D & D>A converters.

Thank you so much for the correction on terminology. I know I wasn't going to nail it with 'echoes' but I hoped it would be understandable even if it wasn't the correct word. It's among the pitfalls of operating at the edge of one's expertise.
If I assemble an elite team of black-ops assassins who work in tandem to complete missions and then disappear into the night like so much smoke from a blown-out candle, we will call ourselves Harmonic Ghosts.

That's what I miss the most in Adobe Audition; the spectral frequency display. I used it once to erase a phone ring tone during an important dialog scene. Audition lets you see the tone and then erase them with simple tools. Those tones were out of the speaker's voice range so noting was lost. I hope Black Magic Design can put that feature into Fairlight some day.

I am kind of amazed at how powerful a tool it is. The only thing more shocking than that is how wave forms are the standard readout when they are so much less efficient than spectral frequency readouts.
You can always email them a suggestion that they add spectral frequency analysis to Fairlight: www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/
      In fact, I just did.

@@JJKoester Every time I download a new version they ask for feedback. I've been putting that suggestion in every time. Thanks for commenting.

@@RobertShaverOfAustin Reached out, they told me that they'd take it under advisement and that I should mention it on their forum. If/when the feature lands, drinks are on me for the evening.

thanks for the lesson, will be looking for this feature in other apps/daws. also, I respect wearing a (bow)tie for recording

So far, I've only seen it in Audition but it's such an improvement over wave forms that I hope it sees wider adoption.
Thanks for the comment! The engagement really helps the channel and we appreciate it.

Kind of randomly got here, but this was interesting.

Thanks for watching it! SFA is so far the best method we've found for testing signal chain at a granular level. If something better comes along, we'll make a video about it!

the voice sample sounded so familiar. 100% is from there will be blood

Nailed it! DDL's voice is actually really good for frequency tests. He has a lot of texture in his voice and really good dynamic control.
