Thank for your knowledge and the videos
Thanks, Professor Shell! I'm from Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). I started studying RUNES. Your explanation on RUNES pronunciation was awesome. Thanks for sharing. ❤
Thanks!
Nice one…..now “Thor” please?
The first couple paragraphs in the prolog to the Pros Edda explains perfectly Chrstian view perfectly. Christianity is a fullfilment of all pagan religion.
The prologue in the Edda is a justification, not an explanation. We see this across the board with Christianity and "pagan" euhemerism. It's nothing new.
"Es schwant mir" still exist in Lower-Saxony. I live between Hamburg and Cuxhaven. it is also common in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. 🙂
Hail! ❤
Is there a tube that stands for an "ai" sound like in "tie" and "why"
I think "tube" is autocorrected from "rune?" If so, no. There was not a single rune that represented that sound in the Elder Futhark. That sound would be written with two runes: ᚨᛁ
Hello Prof. Shell. Thank you very much for the video ! I have a question that how to pronounce the sentence of "elder futhark"? For example, the words on Järsberg Runestone ᚢᛒᚨᛉᚺᛁᛏᛖ :ᚺᚨᚱᚨᛒᚨᚾᚨᛉᚺᚨᛁᛏᛖᚲᛖᚱᛁᛚᚨᛉᚱᚢᚾᛟᛉᚹᚨᚱᛁᛏᚢ Thank you!
Approximately: "uuvaz-heatuh : hravanaz-heatuh-ek-erilaz-roonoz-wareetoo." It's really hard to to explain how to pronounce things unless it's in IPA, but that gives you a general idea. The "v" is also closer to the "v" in Spanish from Spain (voiced bilabial fricative), but again, what I've written gives you a ballpark idea.
I feel like you have helped me to connect more deeply with my Icelandic ancestors through the pronunciation. Thank you so much!😊
I'm very happy to hear that :) You're quite welcome. Congratulations
I haven't found resources on the ritual instructions for runes and I really wish that resource was shared. Thank you guys for all your hard work.
Thank you
Our people will continue their fall and destruction until we revert back to what BUILT our civilization and our peoples very soul; Roman Catholicism. I'm Former AFA, so bring on the hate and all the exact claims which I made against Catholics back in the day.
grazie per averlo messo l'acrofonia è una caratteristica importante nel sussurro delle rune
Thank you, Dr. Shell, for this excellent breakdown of Wōðanaz and its evolution across Germanic languages! Your interpretation as "leader of the insane/ecstatic/furious ones" is compelling for later linguistic stages, where the name takes on a more personified and emotive quality. That said, we must recognize the semantic drift over time. The original meaning of Wōðanaz likely referred to a primal, elemental force-an uncontrollable power, more cosmic in nature than human in expression. While "insane," "furious," and "ecstatic" are fitting descriptors for the intensity of such force, we must be careful not to impose modern emotional meanings. What we perceive as madness or fury might simply reflect the overwhelming energy of creation itself, akin to the raw power of a volcanic eruption or the explosive force of the Big Bang-energies that transcend human qualities.
I know this is a little later but as I research these runes I was under the impression that they could be phonetically used to make english words. Example ᚦᛟᚱ this meaning Thor phonetically but if that is true which im not 100% sure how would you say ᚦᛟᚱ. Would you sound out every rune separately or would some of them combine into a more fluid version?? Sorry for such a late question.
If I'm understanding correctly, they would be combined into a more fluid version. Still, the ᚱ-rune would be pronounced like a trilled r (like in Spanish). The American/British "r" sounds have different values.
to me the translations seem a bit of from time to time like: (ill do it in Dutch and English) 3:07 habda im uualdand god them helidon an iro hertan helagna gest fasto bifolhan endi ferahtan hugi.. heb in de weldoende god het heldendom and in uwe harten de heilige geest vast bewaard en veracht huichelarij.. have in the well doing god the heroism and in your hearts the holy spirit secured tightly and despise sanctimony... somehow that's translated here into: "the ruling god firmly buried the holy ghost and wise thoughts in them, the heroes in their hearts"...i could be totally wrong in the translation i tried .. "hugi" is new to me and all these strange inflections .
This is perfect. Thank you!
In the bible, from the book of acts it dose say christ was hanged on a tree. This is without germanic influence
The Heliand consists of the retelling of Tatian's gospel harmony. I believe it to be highly unlikely that the Heliand poet had access to and incorporated the Book of Acts. Still, thank you for bringing this up. It's still worth contemplating.
Hello, it is also mentioned in Galatians 3:13
I'm just trying to write English words in runic for a guitar inlay. Because of the spiritual, linguistic, and alphabet meanings for the runic language, it's ridiculously difficult to find what I'm looking for. I just want to know what sounds they make.😢
Generally, *ansuz will produce a dark Edim7 sound. *wunjō produces a Gmaj, and *hagalaz doesn't understand anything but power chords. Certain combinations of runes will allow you to shift between natural minor, melodic minor, and harmonic minor scales. ...just kidding, but if you have any questions while you're doing the inlay, drop me a message :)
So cool. I';ve visited Bjorketorp before. It's a powerful place 👊👊👊
Indeed, it is!
I really appreciate your sincerity in these videos. I also like that you don't get too into the weeds......it's just enough to be informative, but not too much that it's over people's heads. Hail! 👊👊👊
