Delighted to hear you are planning a talk on the Hildebrandslied. It is interesting (and maybe confusing) linguistically, and as far as I know one of the few bits of Germanic heroic poetry in (something like) OHG.
I am thinking about the names containing "hate". Is it possible that the meaning has a sense of someone who hates strongly, so some who is very passionate and is a strong enemy?
It's a possibility. I just always looked at this as a very aggressive PN. If you look into the etymology for níð, it's not very positive. It's usually used in a context where someone is feared.
The first half your name is actually âs in Old Saxon. Look in the first video for Asabug and Asger. Your name in recorded in OS; I just didn't include it. My list I am giving is not the complete list. The attested form is Osbern. Reconstructed to Heliand standards, it would be Ásbern ('god-bear').
@@scottt.shellcontinentalger2464 thank you so much for your reply, could you please help me with the runic form? Do I just simply exchange each letter with the corresponding rune or is it more complicated than that?

I am also looking forward to hearing more on this!
Thank you for sharing all the knowledge, always looking forward to new videos.
Good morning, i'm a Saxon from Germany. My Hometown is Essen, the old Saxon name is Asnide, Place by the sacred (Holy) Trees.
Where the Os gods live; Woden at their head.
Goden morgen

My last name is Osborne and I'm disappointed that a derivative of it didn't make you video. Does it not have an Old Saxon origin?
