I do have bingo. I had an overbearing boss and it did keep me motivated but I got exhausted after a while. Now I have a project where I do have room for creativity which is nice, but so weird I am exactly the same way... I take things too personally at work and if I have a meeting it does drain my energy. I usually respond to emails immediately after I get them, so I don't forget. I also hate going back to my project and changing things...

I was severely traumatized years ago as a teenage, got diagnosed with ADHD. Spent my whole life fighting ADHD. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my husband recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.

100% agree I used to have Psychosis and paranoid thoughts like "people thinking about me talking about me etc. Very odd behavior after getting off Adderall from 7-16. Antidepressants at 18-29. 31 now. I took way to much, but took about 20g of Gold caps (Psilocybin containing mushroom) I analyzed my entire life. The emotions that came out helped me understand behavior etc more. Wont ever need to do it again because I'm happy and contempt forever, but I wish more people did this to alter their perception of reality. Would help with healing much trauma

I use very low doses of stimulants since I'm prone to anxiety. These days I'm on 5mg Adderall. I tried Vyvanse, but quit it because it was messing with my sleep. I break the Adderall into pieces and take 2.5mg at 8:00 AM, then 1.25mg at 10:00 AM, and another 1.25mg at 12:00 PM. I hardly feel it at all - it's just barely enough to help me stay on task. Higher doses help more with focus, but the anxiety is overwhelming...

I'll start my diagnosis journey in 5 days. I don't know how many times I told doctors and therapist that I just want to function and be able to do the most basic tasks. They never were able to grasp my problem so I started researching and ADHD sounds exactly what my everyday life experience is. As i said, I just want to function. Nothing fancy.

What kind of unhappy and mean-spirited individuals feel the need to leave a comment under a video of a young woman announcing her joy about finding peace and productivity? It's pathetic! Yes, tolerance may happen, there's a chance of that. But why weaponise your own disappointment to spread your unhappiness? There are ways and experts available who can and do help if a tolerance develops.

I’ve told maybe 20 people I have ADHD. The reactions have varied a lot. Some people, usually the closest to me, are very supportive. They take it seriously and hope that my quality of life will improve a lot now. They have also seen most of my lifelong struggles, so they are convinced this is an accurate diagnosis and that it really affects my life negatively. But then there have also been a lot of comments like, 'I also have it,' or 'I have this symptom too.' Sometimes, I can sense that they are somehow a bit annoyed, thinking I'm trying to make myself special or that medication will give me some unfair advantage in life. These reactions have hurt me a lot. They most likely have no clue about the downsides of ADHD and how it makes life more difficult. So, I have decided not to tell anyone anymore. People's image of ADHD is very inaccurate anyway, so why tell them when 95% will not know what it is?

As someone who went through a succesful 20 year career prior to my ADHD diagnosis as an adult in 2019, I think I can speak on this with a bit of experience based authority. So, first, can someone with ADHD be productive and successful without any form of medication and only routine reenforced habits to cut down distractions? Yes...AND NO. The first thing is you HAVE to TRULY enjoy your job/career! This helps with the dopamine hit. Luckily my profession had a strong sense of routine at it's core, but also was a new challenge every day. The routine made it easy to just go through the steps of my morning without the need to tap into executive function, and during that routine, I would start working on the new challenges, giving dopamine. This allowed me to be an absolute star performer at my actual duties. This said, the annual review also took into account outside factors such as ongoing higher education, community service, and fitness levels. (Yes it was a military career, so these factors were part of the process.) This is where I fell short compared to my peers. Due to the fact I used nearly all of my executive function during my work day, I found it extremely difficult to do 'more work' afterwards. This also included many typical daily chores such as cleaning, or remembering to go to the grocery. Even mustering up the desire to go out with loved ones felt like a chore. So can it be done...yes, but there is a cost. This said, after my diagnosis and treatment regime, which does include medication to cover both my work day as well a few hours afterwards as I am getting a degree as well, my life has improved dramatically. I went from being a star performer to the absolute 'GO TO' person for nearly everything at work. Additionally, I have been a straight A student in my degree program, something I was never able to do before. There was a portion of time after being diagnosed when I relocated to the UK and was without medication for about two months, while my work performance only dipped a little, my school work became a constant battle. Luckily, I was able to get the medication during the last month of the term and was able to do catch-up work and some extra credit to get back to where I wanted to be grade wise. The TLDR here is this: Even if an ADHDer can be succesful without treatments (not necessarily medication), they likely will be more productive, both at work and at home, with some kind of treatment plan in place.

Notes: Get dopamine 1. "Make life as fun as possible" - music, reward on finishing small things, cross off, yoga, exercise - "Challenge". 2. "always work with your brain" - be smart in making choices and complete tasks, rather than holding slowly onto tasks. approach differently. walk, dance, exercise, game. "Dopamine Switching" - brain, then fun, then brain then fun. 3. "Accommodate yourself" - from additive habits by using fidgets, sensory tapes, push ups, etc. 4. "Use ur environment as much as possible" (changing our state) - music dance, "change the place", showers. 5. "constraints suck butt they rock" - use timers n take breaks, finish off. else overuse of time. use productive apps.

Notes: Everything will get tolerated over time. Coffee 2. gym exercises - u need to increase weights over time. So what to do when meds dont "motivate" you, as much as they did give you "a choice and a sense of focus and determination - that u can use however you wish"! (without motivation from drug, the choice wont be utilised well by us with the focus & determination we got from drug.)? Studies too show tolerance is normal. Wakeup early, get dopamine from exercise/adhd music, have faith, take breaks, take coffee.

I have never heard from anyone around me that sensitivity to smells increases with stimulant medications. 😮😮 On the contrary, for everyone I have communicated with, medication has brought many sensitivities, including to smells, to a bearable level. Side effects are indeed very varied... Perhaps the relationship between smell sensitivity and medication differs for individuals with mild ADHD compared to those with moderate ADHD.

Our brains aren't broken, it just functions in a particular fashion which is not the way that nowadays society expect us to behave and exist. I take the educational system here as an example: it does not support creativity, exploration, questioning.. they force people to be seated for several hours just memorizing stuff that were effectively studied by anybody than the actual students. Almost everyone would benefit from a system that would work like that, but the majority just conform to what is offered and play by the rules. The problem here is that ADHDers just cannot adapt to it in a major way, because our brains need waaaay more than that, and it knows that whats being offered is just bulls***. Sorry about that last word. 😅 Society must review urgently many things set in stone. And remember: your brain is NOT broken.

Ps: since we live in a society like that, Yes, we can feel and may be treated as a failure. So, medication can be very needed and important. But, i wonder: would it be really necessary if things were different? I dont think that we would be feeling as a failure - at least that much of - if we grew in a exploratory/creative enviroment, for example.

I personally tend to get stuck most in the morning, if I don't have any appointments. I have noticed that that's caused by the huge list of things that I pile up in my mind on busy days for these special free days, when I "have all the time". One way to combat this is to sit down with my favourite pen and write down all the things I actually want/think I can/need to do today in detail. So instead of just "do laundry" I write: collect and sort dirty clothes, turn on washing machine, empty the drying rack, put dry clothes away, hang up wet clothes etc. If the resulting list of things is too long (which it often is) I start crossing off things that don't need to happen today. For example I have to empty the drying rack in order to hang the wet, clean clothes, BUT I do not have to fold and put away the clean clothes. I can just put them in a semi-neat heap in a bag or box or even on a clean table. That way I conserve my energy for the most important steps and can do the sorting and folding on another day or in little sprints over the course of a few days. If after all that I still feel stuck, I write down tasks like "eat breakfast" because on days like that I tend to forget to eat and then wonder why I feel drained. So I add that and start with that task. If I already ate that day, I find the easiest task on the list and start with that and if there are no easy tasks I think of one and write it down. I often need an easy win to get me unstuck and once the ball is rolling and I got up and moved a few paces in my apartment, I usually feel a lot more capable of tackling my tasks. I hope this helps anyone. Writing this comment has certainly helped me to reflect on my process a bit and remember to do this more regularly again because I do tend to occasionally forget that this strategy works for me :D

oh and also: When I have very busy weeks I have now started to include things I want to do for fun as tasks for my free days. I often think "man I really want to play that game" but then in the evenings after a long day, I am too tired to properly get immersed in a huge open world game. So instead I schedule time for that and plan ahead when I can play. This helps me get over the "I want to play now and do nothing else" because I know that there is a space reserved for it and I will play it, but I need to do things xyz before. Also reminder to myself: Never schedule tasks to do after playing. It doesn't work. You will not stop playing Horizon Forbidden West to do a task! Cook dinner before you start playing so that when the hunger kicks in "suddenly" aka. you start to finally notice it when the hyperfocus wears off, you can just throw it in the microwave and eat it right away.

Thanks for talking about this issue. I feel behind my peers who have the same level of education and experience. I'm not making the progress they are, and it's frustrating. If only I could get myself to "do the thing" more.

Got 33 out of 40 (and yes, I had to rewind the video to see how many there were in total). 😅 The thing is, I take my meds as prescribed, and they do help but not nearly enough and not consistently enough to level the playing field. 😢

I can't even get my official diagnosis for another 53 days. This video makes me really excited (and a little jealous). It feels like I'm waiting for a new kidney.

Your best weapon is ‘prevention’. Don’t get into the situation where you need to say ‘No’ to goblin and stop them, cause that takes a tons of executive function and energy! - use have to use record player Step 1:- figure out what your brain needs to feel ready for the day. Step 2:- take thinking out of it - Make little instruction manual, use an app, checklist or whiteboard Step 3:- take the timing out of it - Use your timer or manual time speaking something.
